Mountainous Lesotho has a temperate climate. Winter and summer are at opposite times to the northern hemisphere seasons. Winters (April to September) are generally dry, but spectacular thunderstorms are common in summer (October to March). However, the weather is very changeable throughout the year.
Mokhotlong's climate compared to Lesotho's Parks
Mokhotlong is located in the mountainous eastern part of Lesotho and its climate is comparable to that in the main parks in the country (Ts’ehlanyane and Sehlabathebe National Parks and Sani Top). However the parks have high mountain peaks where temperatures are a few degrees colder.
Dry Season –April to September –Winter
Winter is very dry and it is rare for rain to fall. The days are sunny and the nights are cold.
Wet Season –October to March – Summer
Rainfall is regular during summer, but there is lots of sunshine as well. Mist often rolls in to cover the landscape at higher altitudes. Daytime temperatures are lovely.
