Stunning ‘Out of Africa’ Views

Loisaba is in central Kenya on the Laikipia Plateau, and is part of a mosaic of linked wildlife conservancies. It is one of Kenya’s most important elephant corridors and is also home to buffalo, and Kenyan specials: the endangered reticulated giraffe and Grevy’s zebra. We enjoyed good sightings of lion, cheetah and leopard, and wild dogs are regularly seen. Loisaba’s popularity as a wildlife photographic destination has been boosted by recent sightings of two very rare black leopards (although we were not lucky enough to spot them, one was seen by other guests during our stay). Rhino are shortly to be reintroduced.

The permanent river and numerous springs make Loisaba attractive to wildlife throughout the year.
The conservancy is owned by the Loisaba Community Trust and we were impressed by its focus on conservation in conjunction with community development – a win-win situation for the wildlife and local people.

There are only three lodges, so sightings are not overcrowded with tourist vehicles. We stayed at Lodo Springs and Loisaba Tented Camp, both of which are located on a ridge, above waterholes, with far-reaching, spectacular ‘Out of Africa’ views across the conservancy. These are probably two of the most spectacularly sited lodges I’ve ever had the privilege of staying in anywhere in Africa.
