Matusadona lies along the shores of Lake Kariba, and as such the expansive inland water body is an added element to the incredible scenic beauty of the area. Lions, Elephant, Buffalo and many more species of animal exist here, but are not as frequently seen as in Hwange and Mana Pools. The area is very well known for its diversity of bird life, with about 400 species recorded here. The lake is home to the tiger fish, which is one of the best fighting fresh water fish in the world.

I stayed at Matusadona Water Lodge when I was at Matusadona National Park and it was one of the most unique experiences out of all of the traveling I have done. To be able to sleep in a luxury cabin floating on a lake and fall asleep to the sounds of hippo outside your door is truly amazing. The wildlife viewing was wonderful and we even got to do a walking safari where we saw a male lion in the distance. Being able to enjoy Africa and it's wildlife and scenery without the overwhelming and distracting crowds is worth the trip!

Wonderful secluded destination by lake Kariba
Overall rating

Matusadona is a national park usually accessed by boat or plane. As such, it is a secluded destination where you will enjoy the bush away from any crowd. Its location along lake Kariba makes it a very scenic place, its sunsets over the drowned trees silhouettes are truly unique. The lake also allows you to see the wildlife from another point of view by boat, not only from a safari vehicle. Whether you like to watch animals, enjoy fishing of photograhpy, it's all there at the same place to satisfy everyone in the family. The Sanyati gorge which borders the park is also well worth a visit by boat.

Our camp is on an island of lake Kariba, great place for birding and fishing. A good break of travel pace. To see the animals from water gave us a different perspective.
