Mokolodi Nature Reserve offers some of the most impressive bird watching in the Gaborone area. The guided game drives aren’t really geared toward birding, but if you drive around the reserve yourself, you’ll see a good number of species. Both bushveld and Kalahari specials can be spotted.

Best Time for Bird Watching

Mokolodi is great for birders throughout the year. However, the best time for bird watching is during the wet summer months, from November to April, when migrants from Europe and North Africa can be found in the reserve. This is also when a lot of birds can be seen in breeding plumage. Note that the reserve sometimes closes for a few weeks between December and March, during the wettest months.
