Great time with the highlight of a confrontation between buffaloes and lions. Spotting rhinos, and a caracal too, apart from the big animals.
Though the big amount of wildebeests, gazelles and zebras was not there as the rains had not reached the crater... just beginning. Though lots of predators...

By the time we went to Ngorongoro we had seen all of the animals. This was seeing them in a different habitat, yet similar. I loved the hippo pond & seeing the lush green grasses & water where the Zebra & wilder-beast congregated.

Ngorongoro to see Rhino. We also saw different wildlife at vast dry land / meadow. It's on our way back to Kilimanjaro airport after Serengeti

The scenery in the Ngongoro Crater is like no other I've ever seen. There's something surreal about being in the crater. Everything is coexisting with one another. One of my personal favorites places on the planet is the Ngoitokitok Picnic area. Enjoying lunch and a coffee there; it's like something out of a dream. I highly recommend going on a hike on the crater rim, guided by the local rangers. We took a 2 hour hike with our guides and enjoyed talking with them as well as the sceneries. Inside the crate, we saw most of the animals except for the rhino and the giraffe (although we did see some giraffes just outside the crater). Our safari guide was from Gosheni Safaris, great guide and company. We stayed just outside the crater at the Ngongoro Farm House, a very high end lodge.

Amazing opportunity to see diverse wildlife

The wildlife in Ngorongoro is amazing. You'll have no trouble finding zebras, wildebeest, hyenas, lions, hippos, elephants and many others. I wasn't lucky enough to see a rhino in the crater but we did see a cheetah which apparently are fairly rare inside. The weather was beautiful. It was somewhat windy and around 25 degrees Celsius. We stayed in the Serena hotel at the top of the crater which had great views into the crater. It had especially lovely sunrises. Meals were typically a buffet salad and dessert bar with a small selection of main dishes to choose from. They were quite good. Breakfast was also a buffet. We traveled with Rashidi from Leopard Tours who was an excellent guide. He was well versed in all the various animals and birds that we saw on our tour and he searched very diligently to find all the animals we wanted to see.

I spent a full day in Ngorongoro Crater as part of a 9-day safari in Tanzania. The wildlife was amazing. Within the first 20 minutes in the crater, we saw a lioness lying by the side of the road. We saw many more lions that day, along with Cape Buffalo, hyenas (including several feeding on a zebra kill), jackals, elephants, baboon, numerous hippos, warthogs and many Thomson's Gazelles. The birdlife was diverse and plentiful: Augur, Herons, Ibis, Ostrich, Cranes, Tawny Eagles, a Kite, Egrets, Guineafowl, Bustards, Vultures and Weavers. The scenery was spectacular, from the crater walls to the numerous dust devils. A truly amazing day.

The Crater is incredible, you cannot find anything similar in the world, this is why the 5 stars are well deserved. Unfortunately, the space in the crater is limited, so you see many other cars doing the game drive with you.
