Nsumbu National Park is a fine birding destination, since it hosts several East African species at the edge of their range. Visiting lesser-known parks, where flagship animals aren’t easily seen, is often ideal for bird watching. The variety of habitats – including the lakeshore, rivers, wetlands and cliffs – ensures a wide range of birds. Pel’s fishing-owl and palm-nut vulture are some of the specials to look out for.

Best Time for Bird Watching
Nsumbu is a great birding destination throughout the year. However, the ideal time for bird watching is in the wet months – from November to April. Migrant birds arrive from the north, and many species are in breeding plumage during these months.
