Stay away from this operator
2/5

If you're after unprofessional behavior, being unreliable and severe lack of communication, then mafie adventures is the operator to go with.
If this is your first time going on safari or are a solo traveler, then be careful of this company. The main point of contact is a very sketchy guy.

Helpful & Friendly
5/5

Communication was really good from Mafie Adventures and everything from pick up at the airport to our hot air balloon trip was organised for us, there was a mistake with one of our accommodations and our guide called the office and they fixed the problem very quickly and found us an alternative. Our tour guide was knowledgeable and friendly and made sure we saw all animals as much as possible and got as close as we could.

I was with my husband for 3 nights and 4 days and we joined a group of 6. The accommodation was particularly good for the 2night of the Lodge 1night Luxury Tent Camp, so I was able to relieve the tiredness of the tour all day long. There was a small problem, but there was no problem because the Mafia Venture solved it right away. This is my favorite part. The price is also reasonable. I loved that lunch was not a lunch box, but also included a drink, beer, and wine. Personally, I don't think the private tour will be fun, but I really liked the safari that I enjoyed with various people. In particular, I can't forget the warm atmosphere of Ngorongoro's Rhino lodge.

Be careful of this company!
1/5

I would urge HIGH LEVEL of CAUTION interacting with the main point of contact, Erastus.

He was incredibly evasive when trying to get information regarding the tour from him, and did not provide any details of the itinerary at any point.

We had agreed to pay the remainder of the deposit at the start of our safari. However, within minutes of us arriving at our hotel the day before the safari, he sent someone to demand we pay the remainder of the deposit... very suspicious on how he would know where we were staying! As this information wasn't provided to him yet.

I had organised drop off at the airport with him for 40USD. On the last day, no one, whether that be Erastus or the driver told us how we would get to the airport. At one point, Erastus said we will get picked up by the clock tower in Arusha.... no one (including the driver) knew where the clock tower was. Eventually, a fellow traveler told us that we were getting dropped off at his hotel.
At this point, Erastus appears out of nowhere and says he will accompany us to the airport with the driver. Throughout this whole time, he was trying to intimidate us and eventually forced us to pay him 50USD for the trip.

I would highly recommend you consider another operator than mafie adventures.

Dear Sean
Thank you for your review about my company
Apologize! i think you remember about what we agree about rest of payment that you will pay on arrival but not on pick up first remember that pick up was 5am where is much early to meet you even if you need lady from my office to meet you this was real unsafety for women and we cant give you a service without full payment because all park fees must pay before inter to the parks so we cant borrow tour to client and pay later because of Fees Accommodation food and transport during safari you should pay everything before safari and not after safari so it was not demand you do you think is fare to provide service without payment?

* Kindly before arrive in where you staying we have already communicate and give me the name of lodge you staying.

When you arrive to Kilimanjaro airport you can see sign about transport from kia to Arusha is 50$ but not more or less so if you paid 50$ was fare for transport we didn't charge you more than these amount so stop complain about.

Nice safari, but the overall interaction with the company was terrible.
1/5

The safari was a great experience, however, the experience outside of that was horrendous. The tour operator that we dealt with was very inconsistent and unreliable, not keeping agreements that were made prior to travelling to Arusha. Following from that, there were certain shady behaviours that were displayed throughout the experience, such as never confirming transfers post-safari, demanding cash the night prior to the safari (rather than at the beginning of the safari - as agreed upon), intimidating us on the way to the airport, asking for a sum of cash for the transfer to the airport, even though it was agreed that this sum was apart of the lump value we paid prior to the safari. All these actions left a blight on what was a great safari, so if you can go with a better operator I would highly recommend that for a bit of peace of mind that it may go a bit smoother.

Amazing day trip to Ngorongoro
5/5

I made a day trip to Ngorongoro departing from Arusha. Omar was our driver and he did an excellent job. The roads inside and outside the Ngorongoro crater area as well as the 4x4 vehicle used were modern and comfortable. We had been a group of 8 people in the car - some of them were on a multi day safari. I met the others of the group for breakfast in a town close to the crater. We entered the crater at about 9.30 am and left at 4 pm. That gave us enough time to see many birds, zebras, wildebeests, bonobos, … and all the animals of the big five except for the leopard. The scenery of Ngorongoro in itself is already worth the visit. Having our picnic with delicious food at a lake was just the icing on the cake.
When I come to Tanzania in a few years, I would go to the Ngorongoro crater with Mafie Adventures again.

An amazing journey with wonderful guides and excellent food
5/5

I read some reviews about Mafie adventures when I was researching budget safaris. They were the first to get back to me with details of the several tour operators I contacted. I chose a two day safari to Tarangire and Ngorongoro. For those two days, everything was included. I expected a boxed lunch that we would eat in the Safari jeep. But instead, we had a beautiful meal of rice, grilled chicken, and sautéed vegetables in a delicious sauce. All laid out on a table cloth under the shade of trees at a picnic site in Tarangire, and then the following day by a small lake inside the Ngorongoro Crater. There was plenty of cold bottled water, Coca Cola, and even Kilimanjaro beer and a bottle of Tanzanian Dodoma red wine. But maybe you’d also like to know about the game drives and the guides. Simion was our guide in Tarangire. He was fun, enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and professional. He scanned the radio for word of animal sightings. Though luck played a part in seeing all of the animals we did(leopards, cheetahs, secretary bird, ostrich, and more), Simion worked hard to get us to the right place at the right time. Then there was our guide Matcha for Ngorongoro. He was friendly and very knowledgeable about the flora and fauna. He made our day in the crater a wonderful and relaxing experience, somehow exhilarating when in pursuit of seeing yet another of the big five, all while creating a warm and familial feel among our random group in the jeep that day. The lodging in Mto Wa Mbu (the point between the two parks I visited) was clean and comfortable, and again, the food was delicious and served in very generous portions! And I love to eat. So I was pleased.

I was a total newbie to African travel, and the communication and organization put me at ease and allowed me to just relax and effortlessly enjoy the adventure.

I had such a good experience on Safari, that I booked another short tour with Mafie Adventures for after my Kilimanjaro climb. And again my guide and chef were amazing, generous people. Everyone embodied the Karibu(Welcoming) spirit that I’ve come to love about Tanzania.

Go have an adventure.
