Balletto African Adventure Safaris was started in 1995. The company is a family owned safari company that is a 2nd generation safari operators in Tanzania. My father was a mountaineer and doctor by profession and came to Tanzania during the 2nd world war.
In 1943, Felice Benuzzi and two Italian compatriots escaped from British POW Camp in equatorial East African with only one goal in mind – to climb the dangerous seventeen thousand feet Mount Kenya. NO PICNIC ON MOUNT KENYA is the book that was written on their experience in climbing the mountain. Giovanni Balletto (my father) was amongst the two compatriots of Felice Benuzzi.
After his climb my father fell completely in love with East Africa and he decided to settle. He could not see himself going back to Europe, and leave behind all the sunshine. He fell in love with East Africa because of its its vast lands, mountains, lakes and rivers that captured his every being. He also wrote the book ‘THE KILIMANJARO SPELNDOUR’ in Italian. He created and started the Umbwe Route on Mountain Kilimanjaro.
