Orogu means patas monkey (Erythrocebus patas) in Madi (one of the many local lingua spoken in the West Nile region of Uganda) dialect. Also known as known as the wadi monkey or hussar monkey, is a ground-dwelling monkey distributed over semi-arid areas of West and East Africa.
It is the only species classified in the genus Erythrocebus. Recent phylogenetic evidence indicates that it is the closest relative of the vervet monkey (Chlorocebus aethiops), suggesting nomenclatural revision.]
Why?
I came up with this name due to behaviour, social life, defensive abilities, nature, gentleness, cleanness, humility and good conduct. The smart red coat and solider-like white moustache of the Patas Monkey has led to them also being commonly known as "Military Monkeys".
