Kenmara Tour Operators Ltd was founded in 2017 by Kipkosgei after completing his university education. Initially, the company focused on tour van and Land Cruiser hire, targeting both international and local tour operators who did not own vehicles. The main services offered included car hire, airport transfers, and assistance in booking local air flight tickets. With a strong presence around airports, our team was well-versed in airport activities and airline ticketing, utilizing booking offices in Westlands and Upperhill, Nairobi.
Originally operating solely in Kenya, we expanded to Arusha, Tanzania, within a short period. Recognizing the industry norm where most drivers also serve as guides, we adapted by hiring professional driver-guides. By 2022, post-pandemic competition increased as more people acquired their own vehicles. To maintain our market share, we introduced extra guides, allowing drivers to focus solely on driving. This strategy helped us retain our clients and attract new ones.
In 2023, our exceptional service quality prompted us to scale operations by acquiring more vehicles. This necessitated registering the company under Kenya's legal framework to secure loan facilities and attract potential investors. We also obtained official licensing as a tour vehicle hire company in both Kenya and Tanzania.
In 2024, we took a significant step forward by obtaining a tour operator license. Previously, subcontracted companies received credit for our services due to branding agreements. Now, we operate independently, specializing in destinations we know best. These include:
