An Expedition int the Heart of the Namib Desert.
5/5

The expedition was a well planned and well executed trip into the Namib Desert. Horses, gear, and staff were all top notch. We learned about the geology of the desert, as well as of the plants and animals that populate it. The riding was intense, with much galloping and lots of terrain covered each day. Food and drinks were abundant - we lacked for nothing in that respect.
The staff was helpful, knowledgeable, and friendly. The riders were from five different countries, in ages from 13 to 74 - all good riders and traveling companions. We had lots of laughs and good conversations around the campfires.
I will think back on the riding, the desert, and the camaraderie shared by the staff and riders as the highlights of the trip.

well organized, nevertheless expedition-like adventure on horseback for those who can "rough it"
5/5

Did the Damaraland Ride. Was well informed beforehand via email about all necessary details. Picked up in time at airport. Knew already what to expect, having done a similar ride with them six years ago. Reliable horses in excellent condition, hard riding, long days (up to 75km), spectacular scenery, good food, warm and comfortable sleeping bags, showers a quick affair (note these are desert fly camps, where every drop of water in precious); conciderate and helpful staff, guide Andrew with great sense of humor. Lovely extra treats on my birthday. Some great racing gallops for those who dared. All in all this exceptional experience comes at some cost: it is really exhausting and not for the faint-hearted, more expedition than holidays. Saddles a bit rough to one's knees (well, maybe my legs are just far too long). Don't expect to see lots of wildlife. You will see some, but remember this is desert - some parts haven't seen a drop of rain for three years now.

45 kms before lunch!
5/5

If you are a good, strong rider with a great sense of adventure; then this is the trip for you.
A horse ride of a lifetime.
In 2014 I did the great fish river canyon ride with the same company. A great ride too.
So I came back for more in 2015.
The horses are extraordinary athletes. Vincent the cook is a chef, all the staff are just great troopers.

Well organised, awesome landscapes, excellent guides, good chef, keen helpers and spirited beautiful
5/5

The Fishriver Canyon Ride in April was my third Namibia Horse Safari. The communications and organisation always amazes me as it must be a logistical nightmare to get everything to run smoothly because of the remoteness of the rides in the most spectacular parts of Namibia. The Fishriver ride was exciting and exillirating because of the terrain which varied from rock climbing and leading the horses to easy canters on the Velvet Plains... The horses are well cared for and were once again in very good condition, they are gutsy with big hearts! Throw in the knowledge and skills of the guides Telane and Andrew, the trip exceeded my expectations. Always a life changing experience and becoming quite addictive!! Big thanks to everyone involved.

Riding adventure in the dessert.
5/5

This is a trip for people who love horse riding, who love being away from it all, camping out in the dessert, food cooked on a campfire and a very friendly atmosphere.
You have to fill out a questionnaire about your riding ability and the kind of horse you like. Then Thelani and Andrew ( owners and guides) try to match you with the perfect horse. They got it right for me. The horse was forward going, easy to handle and fine for a six hour riding day.
They provide a packing list for the trip. Questions are answered very well and communication about plane arrival and collecting time is good.
The staff is very helpful with setting up the beds for the night. They help tacking up the horses and try to fulfil your every wish. After a long day in the saddle snacks and drinks are provided. The bush shower has it's own changing room and then we look for a spot for a sun downer, usually accompanied by an alcoholic beverage. The camp food gives you a vegatarian option, or flame roasted spingbok stake.
Game during the day is not very abundant on these trips because the land we ride through is very dry. There are soms zebra, giraffes and different kinds of antilope. It is more about the landscape then the animals. And sitting on your horse you can feel the sun, smell the air and enjoy it all.
The riding is great. No need to ride in a line. Often there is room enough to spread out and take the occasional gallop. There are rides to suit everybody's ability. And repeat customers can see a different part of the country in the different rides.

All horse loving riders should experience a trip with the Namibia Horse Safari Company
5/5

Right from the very start of booking this riding safari it was a truly easy and well organized experience. The fun started when we were met at the Airport and continued every minute of the 10 days until we very sadly hugged goodbye to our wonderful horses, said a huge thank you to all the fabulous staff running the operation for an epic riding experience, and then headed home with lovely memories. ! The whole trip was very well coordinated, the horses were fit and willing, the food and drink excellent and plentiful and the scenery second to none. The camp beds were comfy and warm and a tent was provided if you preferred not to sleep under the stars. I would highly recommend this holiday and can honestly say it was the best experience I have ever had on horseback. Going again this year on the Fish River Canyon Ride - can't wait !

I had an absolutely wonderful experience with Namibia Horse Safari Company. As an Australian working in the same industry, I was very impressed with the quality of every aspect of the trip.

Spurts of pure exhilaration interwoven with the rhythmic traversing of Namibia’s seas of tranquility
5/5

First - my general thoughts. Second - more specific to the questions proposed.

The Namibia Horse Safari Experience? It should be an easy exercise, to gather words to describe my story. I attempt to take time to collate, but all I have are feelings and emotions. Because that’s what it is. Pure, raw, emotion. Instead of words, I visualise. The sand, the landscapes, the endless tracks, the swish of tails in motion, the hooves: capable capable hooves. The stars, a slo-mo firework display that never disappoints. The campfire, the warmth, a gathering of diverse souls, connected by an innate calling. Shared passions, adventure; the call to be part of something wild - yet calm. This is the magical essence created by Namibia & the Horse Safari team combined.
Spurts of pure exhilaration interwoven with the steady rhythmic traversing of Namibia’s seas of tranquility - crystal desert seas. Part of something, a group but also a very personal team. An allegiance, a partnership: with my horse. My courageous, kind-eyed, resilient, capable, giving - so giving, loveable horse. Lavida (May ‘19), Kavanje (Oct ‘19) - forever in my heart.
Special thanks as always to our kind and charismatic leader Andrew, our outstanding support team of Telane, Phoebe, Rayne, Nelson, Colin & Johann, and our background friend & assistant Helen. You create for me, opportunities of a lifetime & I am forever grateful.

This was my second ride with the Namibia Horse Safari Company. The first ride (May 2019) blew my mind with regards to expectations. The second ride (Skeleton Coast) confirmed what an exceptionally outstanding outfit this company is. Customer welfare is on par with that of the horses, which are cared for at the highest level. The beautiful nature and giving temperament of these horses is testament to this. The 100% Egyptian cotton filled cot beds under the desert stars are a dream to sleep on, and chef Rayne deserves a cluster of Michelin Stars for her outstanding field-kitchen culinary prowess. Our support team work wonders to create the most comfortable and enjoyable environments: campsites in ‘nowhere’ become ‘somewhere’ - a true home for the night. Andrew our leader creates a sense of security, togetherness, fun and freedom as we traverse Namibia’s vast landscapes. Communications have been first class throughout; Helen is there to offer a guiding light on all things Namibia and safari, and otherwise! These two safaris have been two of my most enjoyable experiences to date - I hope to expand on this.

Superlative in every sense ... horses, staff, food, logistics, everything is superlative!
5/5

I'll be talking about crossing the Namib Desert with Hagar (the horse), a band of merry travelers, and an incredible compliment of staff and horses until the day I die. They're that good. If you enjoy long days of riding (with exceptionally well-cared-for horses), sleeping under the stars, and indescribably beautiful scenery, go ahead and book with Namibia Horse Safari Company.
