Awestruck by Ian’s knowledge
5/5

Ian is the guide of all guides. His knowledge and intense passion about rhino poaching is beyond words. You have to be in his presence to feel it. Mantobo NP was never on my radar of places to visit and now it’s one my top 5 NP favorites. This place will take you back in time when you ride pass these in incredible rock formations. It’s truy a geological wonderland. Love this park and Ian made it even better explaining in great detail about the history of the bushmen as well as the horrors of poaching rhinos which are the most magnificent creatures - literally they are living dinosaurs and MUST be protected in order to survive. Ian is saving the rhino from extinction and we need more people like him!

Brilliant
5/5

Ian is an amazing Guide. Very knowledgeable about the history and especially very passionate about the Rhino's in the Matopos which he knows all by name and treats them as if they were his kids! The day spent travelling in the old Land Rover was also a major highlight and unique experience as well as meeting the people from the local communities and supporting them.

Best guide ever!
5/5

We had the most incredible day with Ian - after a short walk we had the chance to sit down about 10 meters away from 4 beautiful rhinos taking a little nap in the sun! What an experience! Ian is a gifted story teller and so passionate about what he does, he will answer every question you can possibly think of. Best day of my whole trip and I will definitely come back to learn more from Ian!!

Hwange & Matopos National Park
5/5

Hands down these guys were fantastic! Ian was incredibly helpful booking and helping us set up or trip. All of the tour guys once we touched down were incredibly knowledgeable about where we were going. They made the whole experience fantastic. I can't express how well the guys did- they really have us the entire tour and they didn't want to stop until they felt like they had done just that! Will definitely use them again- as we will be bringing family back to Zimbabwe.

Amazing! - Absolutely made our entire trip!
5/5

Matobo National Park was the absolute highlight of our trip to Zimbabwe! The scenery and natural history of the landscape is fascinating and utterly stunning to witness. We were blown away and our experience was made by the tour guide of African Wanderer Safaris, Ian Harmer, who has an incredible knowledge - and lifetime of experience - of the area and poaching culture in the National Park. We were in good company and were well educated by Ian who is wonderfully passionate about rhinos and the wildlife; we felt safe in his guidance as we tracked rhinos and climbed rock formations to view the scenery, seeing many other animals and weird and wonderful plants along the way! After initially booking just one morning out, we changed our plans that afternoon to spend the whole of the next day with Ian. If you go to Matobos Park, you must get at least an afternoon with this guy - he made our trip! Very reasonable prices for the high quality; and drinks, lunch and park fees included in the cost!

Excellent
5/5

We had Ian and Jordan for a day trip in Matobo trecking rhino and looking at the rock art. Ian was absolutely wonderful and so genuinely passionate about the area and history that it was the highlight of a 10 day tour through Zimbabwe and South Africa. Wonderful knowledge and easy to talk to. Defintely recommend them.

Passionate and knowledgeable guide
5/5

We had Ian on one segment of our Intrepid trip, and he was pure amazing. Extremely knowledgeable about both wild life and Zimbabwe culture / history. Also engages the group and is always happy to share information. Even speaks the language of the bush people! Even outside the context of touring Zimbabwe, he is the cool dude that anyone should get to know. You can't go wrong with this guy.

Mindblowingly proffessional
5/5

I did many trips with Ian, when I was working for a South African Safari company, doing my trips through Zimbabwe and Ian was my contact and Guide in Matopas, Ian is so passionate about what he does, it rubs off on all his clients. I have never met sutch a fantastic and gripping story teller as Ian. I remember one time, on top of worlds view, he was relating the epic story of the Shagani patrol, he delivered this tale, with so mutch enthusiasm, that it had my clients and myself in tears, I can honestly say what ever Ian tells you, you will never forget. Ian's knowledge and passion for the fauna and flora where ever he takes you, is unbelievably interesting, just get him to talk about the Bushmen and you will see what I mean . When ever I got back to johannesburg and asked my clients the highlight of their 16 day safari, 90% of my clients admitted that it was meeting Ian and the adventure, that he took them on. I no longer live in Africa, I am back home in my native England, but my memories of my trips with Ian will never be forgotten, I met many, many hundreds of guides in Africa in my time there, but I have to admit, to myself, that, Ian was my Favourite. My fellow guides and myself knew Ian as "Stretch" and look back on our adventures together as mindblowingly proffessional. You cannot do wrong, to let, Ian, the African Wanderer, take you on a trip of a lifetime
