Great budget experience
5/5

We did the 4 days/ 3 nights program and we are satisfied. At half the price that other operators were charging us, we had a great experience on seeing all the animals (and more) that we expected.

Geoffrey and his team were very fast on responding emails and very open about the tour standards and what to expect.
The service included not only the safari but also airport pickup, drop off and hotel before and after the safari. An amazing combo!
Hotel in Arusha: is ok. Comfortable but nothing fancy and it is located outside the center city but close to local markets and bus station. The staff is friendly and the food good. Arusha is just your initial base for the safari and there is not a lot to do so it is ok.
During the safari...
Staff: we had a driver/guide and a cook the entire time. Both super helpful and kind to our needs. Just make sure that you express to the driver what you want to see so he can look after it. We didn’t mention we wanted to see the flamingos close in manyara, so he didn’t take us and I only found out about afterwards. But he made sure that we saw over 35 lions, 5 cheetahs, 2 leopards, dozens of elephants and giraffes, thousands of zebras, wildebeests and impalas...
Car: a 4X4 confortable Jeep for 4 tourists. It looked very similar to the other cars we saw at other safaris once we were in the parks. You will spend 8 hours/day on these so be sure to have a comfortable seat in a comfortable car!
Accomodations: overall, if your focus is the animals Meru is a great option. If you are looking for luxury and 5-star facilities nop. Pick your priority!
The first night we were in a lovely camp outside Manyara. It had electricity, internet, cold beer, warm shower, beds and even a porch. The second night, we stayed at a very simple hotel inside the Serengeti. it also had electricity, no internet, cold beer but also cold shower. Despite its simplicity it was a great night of sleep and we got the chance to see hienas and impalas running around the facilities. The third night we were in a camp, sleeping in a tent with no luxuries at all at the rim of Ngorongoro. Cold shower in a very dirty bathroom. Your confort level here will depend on wether or not you have a good tent and sleeping bag (both of which are provided by the operator - in our case was ok. It fit my 6.3 ft boyfriend well :) bring warm clothing as it gets cold in be night. Despite these frugal environment, the camp had some zebras, buffalos and birds laying around and beautiful views on the crater...
Food: the cook does it best to please us under his budget and the items he brought to the car. A lot of food is served and you eat almost every 3-4 hours. You will eat eggs, crepe and toast for breakfast; for meals a variation of chicken, soup, potatoes, vegetables etc... everything greatly seasoned and adaptable to food restrictions. Simple but tasty! They don’t serve alcohol but you can bring with you or ask them to stop by somewhere and buy it.
Animals: you will see them. They are in the wild but they are many and the drivers talk among each other to make sure you see it all. They are there and independent of the operator you will see it so don’t worry about it and do not take the price tag as a direct reference to the amount of animals observed. Meru slopes was great with its budget option in providing us with memorable experiences!

Very good value for money
5/5

Geoffrey was always very deligent dealing with the booking details and all concerns I had.
David was our guide and made an effort to make the best out of the journey.
The dinners were good, but the lunches could be better, or at least more creative, but i guess given the conditions it is not easy as well.

We had an unforgettable trip with Meru Slopes' sincere support and meticulous organization!
5/5

Meru Slopes is a super reliable tour operator. We didn't arrive in Tanzania with any fully developed plans in mind, however, in the end we booked Meru Slopes' safaris for our entire trip right after spending the first day with them. To be honest, Meru Slopes would probably offer you a price which you could get only after bargain from other operators, and most importantly, they provide you an amazing safari with all necessary assistance and supplies. Geofry, their managing director, has basically solved all our problems and realized all our last-minute ideas. He is truly a reliable and kind man! Meru Slopes' guilds are also very nice and caring, and at the same time, super interesting! We had an unforgettable day with Nuru and John at the foot of Mt. Kilimanjaro, dancing and singing with the local villagers, also enjoyed freshly made local food and coffee. Both the guilds and us have learned a lot from each other from the interesting conversations. We became friends at the end of the day! The experience is much more than just an ordinary guided tour... In one sentence: you must choose Meru Slopes!

5/5

Communication with Goefrey was excellent, he replied very quickly to emails and was easy to get in touch with through whatsapp.
The service was exactly as described: airport pickup; hotel stay; meals etc. It was very well organized! We were amazed at the sights every day and learned a ton of interesting facts from our guide:)
Thank you Meru Slopes Tours!!

well organized budget tour
5/5

Everyone on the tour booked through a different tour company, so I am not sure who organized the tour itself. For this reason I can only rate Meru Slopes for the time before and after the safari. They are excellent: professional, with very quick reaction time, dependable and punctual, helpful and make sure their guests are satisfied. I'd use their services again.
As for the safari tour itself: I took part in the 4nights/5 days Tarangire, Serengeti, Ngorongoro budget camping tour.
With some previous experience throughout Africa on different safaris, my conclusion is this: expect to get exactly what you paid for. There are no miracles, have realistic expectations: this is a budget tour, with very basic camping facilities (good camping equipment!) and mediocre food, but the exact same astonishing nature as any higher priced tour.
Campsites are the same for everyone, but with special dietary needs, consider a more expensive camping tour. (For more money you will get much better food, question is if it is worth for one to pay approx. 500 usd more for 4-5 days of better camp food. Maybe, maybe not.)
Our guide was ok overall (the man had huge experience and the eyes of a hawk, but not very talkative, sharing very limited info even when encouraged. Luckily I had a fantastic animal guide book with me that explained all that our guide did not.)
To sum up: in case you have general interest in doing safari, no special food requirements, and prepared for wild-camping (literally :D) take this tour with Meru Slopes, you will not be disappointed.
If you are an animal/safari enthusiast, you can still take this tour (no guarantee for a better guide on a more expensive tour), but bring along a good guide book just in case - you will be happy.
If you are a hardcore wildlife fan, find a guide through recommendations, and book a tour with him/her specifically (or ask the agency to book you on a tour with him/her). However, for an exceptional guide, prepare to pay the price.

Except the shopping schedule others are just perfect
5/5

They replied very simple but fast, and they really did everything they promised, before/ after pick-up and accomendation (very nice and comfortable ) , which is all satisfying !! the guide looks serious, but very soon I found he is so friendly and easy going. So much fun throughout our trip! And he is also very professional, telling us everything about the animals. He also has very sharp eyesight that he can always spot animals from a distance and tried everything to let us take the best photos. The cook is awesome too! Lunch box is with some limitations but the dinner was all wonderful the cook himself is very fun to talk too! I enjoyed my safari with them a lot. The only thing I dislike is we were taken to a Massai tribe, which didn’t list in our itinerary. Those people Tried to sell you souvenir desperately and the price is ridiculous ! And the chief of tribe asked me to donate to their school so straightforwardly like I owed him the money! The tribe isn’t worthy to visit because they are so impatient when introducing their culture , their only focus is how much money they can get from you! I would 100% recommend Meru Slope to all travelers but suggest saying NO to the tribe schedule directly .

Amazing service from start to finish!
5/5

Geoffrey and his team were amazing, and everything was well organized for our 5D/4N trip to the Serengeti/Ngorongoro crater. From the timeliness of communication prior to arrival, to being picked up from the airport, to the stays at Geoffrey's hotel, and the safari itself, everything was seamless. When booking safaris you will often be placed in the hands of a third-party operator with people that have booked with different companies. What separates Meru Slopes from the rest is Geoffrey's service and how helpful he is. He was able to have his staff help us with getting a SIM card and drivers getting us to places that we wanted to eat at. Staying at his hotel is also a bonus, as you'll see alot of people that booked other safaris also staying the hotel. Geoffrey and his team definitely go out of their way to make sure you have everything you need!
