Organized four day safari and eight day Lemosho Kilimanjaro climb
Professional, experienced, caring and thoughtful. On safari or climbing Kilimanjaro; excellent accommodations, good food, great people. The guides, the porters, the owner(former porter) were everything I'd hoped for and more than I had expected. Special thanks to Rasheed, Respick, Bennedict, George and Sabino

Amazing Safari Experience!
We just returned from our 6 night/7 day safari with Popote and are so happy with our experience. From the get go, Sabino made everything so effortless on our end. All we had to do was tell him what he wanted and he made it happen. We booked very last minute and he was able to accommodate us and help us get from Dar to Moshi within 24 hours. We chose the camping option and were able to tweak our itinerary slightly so that we had an extra day in Serengeti. We had our amazing guide/driver (Rashid) and chef (Morris) making sure each day was memorable and amazing. Rashid clearly loves what he does and is very knowledgeable on the animals and the different environments/landscapes that we were in. He was an amazing driver and we always felt safe with him leading the way, getting us from point A to point B. He was very dutiful and picked up on our routines and habits and made sure we always had what we needed, when we needed it. Whether it was power to charge our camera batteries, a cold bottle of water with dinner or a more flexible approach to our daily schedule instead of being on a super tight timed schedule. Rashid always made sure to never cut corners. If we were leaving a park or heading back to camp, he would make sure to take "the long way" out, as opposed to the main road, in hopes that we might stumble upon an extra animal encounter on our way out. Which we always did! Knowing that I am a photographer, he would keep an eye out for certain shots I should get and would make sure that I got a shot from all angles of each encounter, as well as made sure I was done photographing before we moved on. It's those little things that make you feel like you're really being taken care of. Our Chef Morris was amazing and he made the "camping and dining" experience so much fun. Another guy who clearly loves what he does. He was very creative with the meals, making sure one was always different (always tasty) and he made sure we had more than enough to eat! Lastly, the gear that we were provided with made our trip super comfortable and convenient. The tent was tall enough for us to stand in and provided plenty of space for 2 people. We had mattress pads and warm sleeping bags to help give us a good nights rest. Our first night we didn't have pillows, but the next morning I asked if we could get some and we had some 20 minutes later! The truck is equipped with a charging station for charging camera batteries and phones, as well as a cooler to keep your water chilled. Both of those ended up being lifesavers!!!
We learned about Popote from our friends who spent 2 years traveling the world. They used Popote for both a Kilimanjaro trek and safari and we feel so lucky that we were able to make that connection. I would definitely recommend using Popote as your guides, for whichever Tanzanian adventure you choose!

Popote is the Best
I found out that Tanzania is a great country and its people more so and it all started with Popote Africa Adventures. My son, his girlfriend and I choose Popote to climb Kilimanjaro because of the price and the reviews we read on line were great. Even before we booked with Popote, we had lots of questions and the owner Sabino answered all our questions and made our decision to book with them that much easier. They are local company, professional and knowledgeable, that will do everything they can to assist you. We choose the 8 day Lemosho Route and all three of us summited with the help of everyone at Popote, what a team.
We were picked up at the airport with no problems and then Sabino and the our two guides met us at the hotel the evening before we started our climb. They went over the itinerary and went through our gear to make sure we had everything. Whatever we missed they provided. They checked in with us each night to make sure our health was fine. Went over the next day’s hike and advised us on what to wear. Our two guides Jerry and Dickson were outstanding, walked at a comfortable pace and always seemed to know when we needed to rest!! They were very knowledge about the mountain, vegetation and climate, always pointing out facts that added to our overall experience. Jerry and Dickson had so much experience climbing Kilimanjaro and knew so many of the other guides and porters on the mountain, they commanded a certain kind of respect due to their experience.
The porters worked hard to make our trip enjoyable, our tents were always ready and set up upon our arrival at each camp. They were experienced and picked the best spots to set up our tents. They were always smiling and friendly, jambo jambo!!!
The food was incredible and way beyond what I expected, this was my biggest worry before we left. We camp often and have never eaten as well as we ate on the mountain, portions were more than what we could eat. I couldn’t believe the meals they prepared for each of us!!! We even had popcorn and freshly roasted peanuts as a snack!!!! , breakfast, lunch and dinner were all outstanding - I can't believe we were having such great meals even after 8 days on the trail. Our waiter was Crazy Willy, he made sure we ate all our food and he has a witty character and entertained us with his humor. Crazy Willy also joined us on Summit day, we were happy he joined us and helped us summit the mountain. Crazy Willy also provided us with a pail of warm water after our hikes so we could wash our face, hands and feet just before dinner.
Thank you guys for making our experience unforgettable!!
I highly recommend Popote, great job boys!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Best Tour Operator for Kilimanjaro!!
My brother and I successfully completed a 6-day trek with Popote to Kili summit via Macahame route in Feb 2017. We honestly could not have asked for a better crew than Popote. The business owner, Sabino, will stop at nothing to ensure your trip is perfectly executed. In fact, Sabino was once a porter himself so his company culture very much ensures that his employees are treated very fairly and with a great deal of respect. Our guides during the trip, Jerry & Stanly, were fantastically knowledgable and clearly had won the trust and respect of all other guides we encountered on our journey. And the support crew, including cook and porters, were always so accomodating, kind and fun to be around. We loved the flexibility of changing a 7-day hike to 6-days en route, giving us an extra rest day back in Moshi. All in all we really felt so fortunate to trek with this amazing crew. I would not hesitate to totally recommend Popote Africa Adventures!!

Couldn't have asked for a better tour operator!
Top rate organisation from expert guides to a well structured team of porters, cook and waiter. Very friendly and fully experienced so you are definitely in good hands and always putting you first ensuring you sleep and dine well. As for our summit to Uhuru Peak had told us to depart at 04:00 as opposed to the earlier start at midnight; glad we did as speaking to other hikers they all complained about it being pitch dark when they summited whereas you got the fully beauty visible in the breaking sunlight! Five out of five stars also going to Sabino how he had also ensured we had a great time afterwards and looked after us in style!
Would highly recommend guides Jerry and Stanley.
Go With Popote
Just finished the 7-days Machame route up the Kilimangaro with a Popote team.
We had 2 great guides (Dixon and Shani), a fine cook (Jeremaya) and 7 friendly and helpful porters. It is of course hard to compare with other companies, but we were extremely pleased with Popote. Here are some of the reasons:
- Booking: very good experience (with Sabino), fair price.
- Guides: Very experienced, helpful, friendly and responsible guides.
- Every evening after dinner, they measured our oxygen saturation and pulse and filled a questioner (e.g. about headaches, nausea etc.) to track our physical state. Altitude related sickness was one of our main reasons for concern, and it helped to calm us down knowing that we are under good care.
- Excellent quality of tents, mattresses and sleeping bags (which they provided)
- Overall good atmosphere and vibes. We enjoyed not only being at the summit, but also getting there.
Although it is possible to make the hike in 6-days (and I think this is what most people do), we definitely recommend taking the 7-days options: It makes the last days more relaxed and fun, and gives better opportunity for acclimatization (probably not the only reason, but we felt great at base camp and all the way up to the summit).
We were a group of 2 – Father (50) and daughter (18)
Bottom Line: we highly recommend going with Popote .

Spiritual Adventure with Popote Africa Aeventure
We are a couple of 71 who summited Mt. K. Sabino and his crew went out of their way to accommodate us in every way possible. We had two guides and ten porters in the mountains who guided us safely to the top. We couldn't have done it without them. I can write a book about them. What an experience we had in Tanzania! They arranged our safari as well as a trip to Tanga area (mountain area and beach). We stayed away from touristy places, as we wanted to experience some local scenery. We did some hiking in these areas as well. Sabino took care of everything; he knew exactly what we wanted. He can make your dream come true. I highly recommend this young company. Their price is reasonable, so we were able tip everyone generously. If you want a local company, this is the best.

Popote African Adventure Company is the way to go on Kili…!!!!
I went on a 7 day climb up Kilimanjaro on the Rongai route with friends, and I would highly recommend for anyone considering climbing Kilimanjaro, look no further than Popote Africa Adventure. As students, one of our priorities was price.
The value for this trip was extraordinary! Pricing was very reasonable, allowing a budget for tipping, and the service was outstanding. The guides, porters and cooks are employees (not contractors) who appear to immensely enjoy their work. They truly cared about our health and comfort and worked hard to please us.
The communication with Sabino(owner) was more than easy – his responses to my endless inquires were always timely and precise. I found him to be the same way in person, which made the logistics of the trip so much more enjoyable.
This company is by far the happiest group on the mountain. With every interaction there was a smile or a joke. In the mornings they sang and danced and drew us into their circle to warm up for the day. On summit day, the crew carried our backpacks to the top, and then initiated the celebratory dancing and singing! Returning to camp, we were greeted by the rest of the porters and cooks with hugs, handshakes, more dancing and singing, and lemonade. Throughout the trek, other groups could see what a good time we were having and often came over to visit us for “happy hour” in our dining tent. Shani (Chief guide) absolutely loves the mountain and his customers and it shows. And the food was delicious – all sit-down hot meals!
Thank you Shani and everyone from Popote Africa Adventure, your smiles, songs and laughter made our trip up Kili a life changing experience.
