An epic climb with a great company
I'm so glad I went with Barafu for my climb. Having completed a few different similar trips around the world, I can easily say Barafu is among the best. Being a smaller company, you get a very personalised service and it really makes a huge difference.
Our guides, Sauly & Jonas were awesome. They were always in touch with where we were and made sure we always knew what was happening and were safe/comfortable. Our vitals were checked nightly during a briefing about the next day.
The food was amazing, with a good variety and great quality. The porters and whole team during the climb were great. They were friendly and engaging with us and getting into camp each day to find warm washing water, a setup tent and fresh popcorn was a welcome treat.
While on our climb, it became very obvious that there is a big difference between companies and the level of service - it made me really glad we went with Barafu. I honestly can't say enough good things about the whole trip with the Barafu team, especially our guides, they were amazing.

Kilimanjaro: Barafu made it happen for us
My daughter and I did the Lemosho Route with Barafu in February, 2018. This was our first experience with a multiple day trek, and neither of us had very much time to do physical training in advance, so we just figured we would see how far we could go. Barafu was recommended to us by a Peace Corps volunteer we knew. The Barafu team knew what we needed and gently and skillfully and playfully guided us and took care of us every step of the way. Chance was our main contact and he was extremely responsive and accommodating during the planning process and he handled all logistics including transport from the airport, hotel issues, and pulling together a last minute day trip. Our guides, Mohammed and Diglan, were experienced, informative, encouraging, and fun. The food and the service was excellent. The team morale was very positive from start to finish. Along the way, these guys completely won our trust relative to feedback and decisions that optimized our experience and ensured our health and safety. This allowed us to summit on the 6th day, a day earlier than we had planned, and we spent most of our time just enjoying the experience. The whole thing was a complete delight and Barafu was a fantastic partner to have in this endeavor.

Barafu Tours is the way to go!!
My wife and I climbed Kili last fall with Barafu Tours and could not have had a better experience! We did a 7 day Machame route. Chance and his team did everything that they could to ensure that we had an enjoyable, safe, memorable climb. Everything that we needed was taken care of by his top-notch staff. One of my biggest concerns for the climb was safety. The staff was very knowledgeable about Kili routes, altitude and climbing health issues, nutrition and hydration, etc. Every evening we had a “health check” (symptom screen, pulse ox, etc) to monitor for any acclimatization issues, which luckily we did not have. You are provided 3 solid nutritious meals daily and even tea/snacks in the afternoons, quite a feat given the circumstances. We stayed at a hotel in Moshi called Kilimanjaro Wonders which was exceptional - the rooms are immaculate and beautiful, and the staff are so kind, genuine and hard-working. Chance is incredibly responsive and thorough, which made planning so easy. I could go on and on, but suffice it to say that I can’t imagine a better experience than the one we had with Chance and Barafu Tours!

Awesome trek + safari with Barafu Tours
From rainforest to snow-capped peak, each day on Kili was filled with stunning views and incredible experiences. My friend and I made the trek in 6 days on the Machame route and then also did a spectacular 3-day safari all with Barafu Tours. Barafu was super communicative and helpful in the lead up to the trip and took care of all logistics from the moment we landed at JRO until our departure. Their packing list was spot on and all equipment they provided was in great condition. The food was delicious too! Best of all, their guides were extremely knowledgeable, friendly, and patient, and the full Barafu team made the trip an awesome experience all around. I couldn’t recommend climbing Kili and Barafu more highly :-)

Kilimanjaro 7 Day Lemosho Route
Barafu Tours & Safaris were absolutely fantastic to deal with from the very first interaction all the way through the trip. The owner, Chance, ensured that everything me and my travel partner needed was dealt with immediately and with the utmost professionalism. We were treated as family and no ask was too much.
All details of our trip were managed by Chance, he provided assurances when required, he recommended tours and visits and even put us in contact with associates in Zanzibar (who were also exceptional).
Our team of guides, chefs and porters were all fantastic individuals and a credit to Barafu Tours. We felt safe every day on our expedition and all factors were communicated to us clearly and appropriately. The expedition itself went off without any issues at all.
My Kilimanjaro climb was made much easier by the team at Barafu and I can't thank them enough.

Exhilarating in every way!
Wow! What an incredible experience it was to climb Kilimanjaro with friends from Barafu Tours. It’s been weeks since my departure and I feel like I still daydream about Tanzania and that beautiful mountain. We couldn’t have done it without the guides and porters that encouraged, supported, and prepared us every step of the way. Our guides were very uplifting as we were challenged the entire journey. I felt confident in their knowledge of the terrain, our health, and our plan of attack! We had a ball talking with them and really getting to know about the country. One of the most inspiring and monumental trips I’ve ever done! Thanks Barafu!!

Barafu made all our dreams come true
We used Barafu tours and safari for both our climb of Mount Kilimanjaro and our Serengeti Safari. There were 5 of us from our group of 12 that went on the safari after the climb! We went with the luxurious safari and we were so happy we splurged. The lodges were truly amazing. Each and everyone of the lodges were unique and the views were breathtaking. The lodges we stayed at were:
1. Kitela Lodge
2. Katikati tented Lodge
3. Kubukubu lodge
4. KuduLodge
Our driver Chris was great. He catered to all our needs and request! He was very knowledgeable about the Serengeti and the wildlife. The Serengeti is a well-preserved home to abundant wildlife. It is the must-see park in Tanzania. People should find 4 out of the African Big 5 here, except for rhinos. We saw numerous lions, 2 leopards, 3 cheetahs and several kinds of antelopes like animals along with elephants and giraffes. Zebras and wildebeests were all over the plain. There was also a couple of big pools to enjoy hippos galore. Though it might get dusty as we drove throught the park, the endless plain and the fast-changing movements of clouds gave us so much awe. We really enjoy its idyllic setting for both wildlife and landscape photography. The Serengeti has so much to offer. I highly recommend using Barafu Tours and Safari to make all your dreams come true!

Epic Summit Experience on Mount Kilimanjaro
The owner, Chance and his entire team made this adventure a once-in-a-lifetime experience. A group of 9 friend all successfully reach the summit. The guides and porters were simply amazing and know their craft of getting people to the top and back safely. I give this group my highest recommendation.

Experienced and fun professionals with your best interest at heart.
In 2015, I decided I wanted to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro and started researching companies that could help get me there. Picking one turned out to be incredibly difficult but after reading a ton of TripAdvisor reviews and comparing prices, I reached out to a couple of companies. The owner of Barafu Tours & Safaris, Chance, was easily the most responsive and accommodating person I communicated with. From the start, he answered my questions with very straightforward responses and all of the information I asked for. When I started having doubts about whether or not I wanted to take this solo trip, he was reassuring and happy to provide references who could put my mind at ease.
Once I had booked my flights and the trek (plus a 4-day safari), Chance reassured me that my ridiculous flight schedule with 2:30 AM arrival and departure was not a problem and that he would personally pick me up from JRO. Throughout the months, he continued to respond quickly to all of my questions and concerns and assured me time and time again that everything would be taken care of.
Finally, I arrived. My bag was lost on the way to JRO and Chance waited for me while I took care of the lost bag claim at the airport. By the time we got to town, it was already 3:30 AM but he was completely professional about it, told me to get some sleep, and reassured me that we would handle it during the day. After catching some much needed rest, he brought my Kili guide with him to check on my missing items so that they could collect what I needed in case my bag wasn't delivered in time for the trek. They also planned on providing these items to me at no charge since the airline was the cause of not having my gear. Luckily, everything showed up almost 2 hrs before departure so we made it work.
The trek itself is a blur but such an amazing experience. I absolutely feel that anyone interested in climbing Kili should contact Barafu Tours & Safaris. Pricing is fair, the service you get is fantastic, and Chance and his team are just the best.
Best of luck, trekkers!
