Surprising and amazing experience
We wanted to make a private tour through uganda for its nature and birds with a car and driver/ guide
Our contact person in Holland, Sander, managed a driver who was a birdwatcher himself. How lucky can men be??
John, our driver, was very kind, helpful and experienced. The roads in Uganda are very bad, but we felt safe!!
We stayed in hotels, banda's and tents on the most beautiful places. A view on the lake, rainforest our other spots with wildlife.
All meals and dinners were good and we had a very nice and good Christmas in one of the lodge places.
Everything was like agreed with Sander. We look back on a great adventure and very good organization.

Living among the Karamojong and visit Kidepo and Murchinson Falls
In October 2016 we made a trip from Kampala to the northeast of Uganda (Kidepo) and from there to the mid-west (Fort Portal). We had a fantastic driver (George) who was not only an excellent driver, but also an excellent guide during the game drives in Kidepo and Murchison Falls.
The guesthouses were basic and often authentic, but in Moroto we have refused the offered place because it was not safe and far below par. In the northeast you should not expect luxury, but it is desirable that the hostess of Buffalo Base (near Kidepo) learns some basic hygiene rules.
The trip was well mapped out, we had excellent guides and rangers. We always felt safe, even though we sometimes came to exciting places.
Advice to Grazz Rootz is to check the accommodations in advance to see whether it meets the basic expectations of travelers from Europe.

Gave an organized feeling by friendly people
It was great! Everybody wants you to experience the best of a little piece of Africa. The people are proud of their nature in their country and want to share it. They all used passion in their work. I always felt really safe and enjoyed every single minute. Despite the fact that 'this is Africa' I felt everything was organized beforehand.

A good trip
In total we were with 9 people, that was a little bit to much for the car. It fits, but 8 would be nicer. The tripp was good, the driver was nice. The second night we slept at the red chili camp and not the firtst night what would be normal. That meants that the gamedrive was short, that makes that the driver had to drive quitte hard to get on time on the boat. That was not so nice. The boattripp was nice, the walk beautifull and the gamedrive could be longer. The accomodation both days where fine. I had a good time.

Great adventure in Uganda.
Even before our journey started everything was well organised.
The communication with Grassrootz was very well. Questions were answered mostly the same day.
We had a hard time picking the right trips, so our journey had to be changed many times which was no problem at all.
In Uganda everything was perfect.
David our guide was a nice guy who could learn us a lot about the country.
Great trips that were well organised and good lodges to sleep.
We really enjoyed our staying in Uganda thanks to Grassrootz.
Regards,
Willemien and Jacobien from Holland.

Uganda
Thanks Sander! Thanks George!
You brought us into a land that is not yet known to the general public and where you can enjoy very beautiful nature parks with many mammals, primates and birds .. We enjoyed the big five and also got chimpanzee and gorilla trekking there, which were quite fascinating. The North was very special to us with visits to the Ik people and the Karamoja tribe who live in a sublime landscape where you needed some good walking shoes to get to the Ik ... :-) No travel company in the Netherlands or Belgium goes to this area ... George, our driver, did everything for us .. well, he also functioned as a super guy, guide, mechanic, negotiator, tour leader, psychologist, talker, historian ..a MUST for anyone who wants to make this journey .. at a very interesting price that Sander made for us :-) ..
Sander and George - two in one for the ultimate African adventure !!! I'm giving you a 10/10 !!!

Grassrootz is a good operator with good local knowledge to explore beautiful Uganda
We really enjoy our tour through Uganda. Our driver David was a good guide and he was able to show us a lot and give good explanations. David was also a good wildlife spotter which was very helpful during the gamedrives.
Most of the times we stayed in good accommodations. Of course it is Uganda so you won't have the luxury like in Western Europe. The only stay which we really didn't enjoy was at Noah's Ark in Kapchorwa (near Sipi falls).
During the tour we made some adjustments to our planned trip. We discussed with David and he took care of the arrangements. This was very pleasant because sometimes you just want to stay a bit longer at a certain point or just want to move on.
We think Uganda is a beautiful country which is very much worth a visit. We enjoyed traveling with Grassrootz because of the fact that we could just go with the two of us and our driver. So no big groups, no adapting to the group. The price/quality ratio was good and we recommend Grassrootz if you plan on visiting Uganda.

Great experience at Murchison Falls NP
Everything went great during our short but really intensive visit to Murchison Falls National Park with Grassrootz Adventures. We saw lions twice (one of them was "The Butcher" – a male who only has 3 paws after being caught in a trap a few years ago), a leopard, dozens of giraffes and elephants and literally hundreds of hippos. It's quite a park! I've never experienced anything like that, and of course we got very lucky.
The elephants were very active, digging the road and the males entwining their trunks etc. One of them got quite disturbed by the cars and kind of threatened to charge also, running a bit and trumpeting, but finally turning away. It was something really amazing and intense.
Some people I was with had never been to a game park before, so they seemed to think it's casual to see animals acting exactly like in National Geographic films, but in fact we got very very lucky. I mean, we had passed the river on the ferry and then driven for about 3-5 minutes when the leopard literally crossed the road. The girl who was the first to see it (besides our driver and guide Paul), said "Oh, look, a leopard" as it was the most regular thing in the world :-)
The booking process and communication by Grassrootz was also very smooth and convenient. So I'm very happy with the tour. Thanks for everything Paul and everyone else at Grassrootz Adventures!

Reliable and good value for the money w'have paid.
Me and my partner have been around, if you know what I mean. Earlier we took out our bikes for a trip in Bangladesh. W'have seen lot's of country's in Asia, but Bangladesh was an eyeopener, once again!! What a country. As you problebly know, the dutch like biking. So in 2014 we had a nice conversation with Sander van Zanten, being the owner / manager of grassrootz. The main question was wether we wanted "him" as the organiser of our trip in Oeganda. Having our first coffee, Sander gave us this feeling of "doing business with him, w'll be alright". So, 2 dutchmen took again their bikes out, this time for making a trip in Oeganda. Sander arranged a big four-wheel drive with a rooftent and of we go, soon after our arrival in Oeganda. The first 2 nights we spend in his hotel, as we had to prepare our bikes and other things. On the 3th day we went off, together with our driver Paul. As he also spoke English, there whould be lot's of nice conversations ahead, talking about the history, habits and developments in his country.
We never felt uncertain with him, being our "tourleader" during the trip.
Sometimes we took our bikes from the big Toyota landcruiser and cycled ahead.
We spent about 3 weeks in Oeganda, doing "the grand tour". W'have seen all the places of interest. Even the north part. Don't skip this part of the country, because "the kidepo national park" w'll gave you the feeling that Linvingstone must have had, lot's of time's during his expeditions. :-)
Sometimes we slept in a questhouse / hotel. Good value afcouse, but many time's we slept on the top of our car, just "somewhere". As I came back in Holland, the first thing I wanted to buy, was a rooftent for my own car, what an experience!!!!
Oeganda is facinating. I have seen allot, already and not only in Europe if
you know what I mean!!! It's people, it's country-sides, it's "easy to do things feeling", it's diversities, whauw..
So, being an experienced tarffeler, I know at what time one can speak "of good value".
Being back in Holland, I have recommended "grassrootzuganda" to my frind's. Some of them whent as well, some of them made other choices until now. There is so much to see in the world!!
The one's who dit go, never where disappointed.
If you have to decide, whether you should go to Oeganda as well, don't have any doubts about the quality of the program and the integrity of the management. It's all oke.
If you want any further information, just send an email: [email protected]
Maybe I am not able to answer your questions instantly. If so, I'am probably on my bicycle somewhere.
After all, that's what the Dutch do, cycling around -:).
