Professional operator, friendly, helpful, experienced, good communication
Our experience with Grassrootz is very good. The owner is very friendly and helpful. After the first contact, we already had a possible travel plan within a few days, only a few details had to be adjusted to have a perfect plan.
Our driver David was a very good guide and very nice person. Knowledgeable and friendly. We had nice conversations and were able to share many experiences. Even if we wanted something extra or different, he gave us his thoughts about the possibilities.
The booked accommodations met our expectations. Clean, good food, friendly staff.
In short, we had a great trip. We were able to fully enjoy the trip and did not have to worry about anything ourselves. We would therefore heartily recommend Grassrootz.

Fast, professional organized; trip of a lifetime !
Best vacation ever…
Grassrootz Adventures Uganda. I highly recommend them for your trip to Africa. We had the best vacation ever!
We’ve taken a lot of wonderful trips but this one is by far our best vacation ever! I must give Sander van Zanten huge credits for that. Sander listened well to our wishes and understood what we wanted and then developed the trip of a lifetime for us! Thank you so much!!!
Before we went we received very professional assistance and advices from Sander of Grassrootz so we were well prepared.
The best thing Sander did for us was to appoint Bob Magezi as our guide. I know, more people write that their guide was great and did the extra mile, not Bob, he did 10 extra.
His knowledge of Uganda, culture, politics, the birds, the plants and of course of all the animals…impressive! His relationship with locals, other guides, rangers and anyone we met, he seems to know them and everyone loves him. Bob always made sure that we saw what we wanted and made us feel like VIP with the best places and best view. I highly recommend Bob Magezi.
Besides his professional knowledge and perfect driving skills, he is great to be with, we had so much fun together and were sorry to say goodbye to a good friend.
In 11 days we visited Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary (where we walked between the rhinos!), Murchison Falls National Park, Kibale Forest National Park, Queen Elizabeth Park, Lake Bunyonyi and Lake Mburo National Park.
We went on foot safari, did river cruises, slept in the most wonderful accommodations, met the friendliest people, enjoyed local food and drinks, went through a variety of different habitats like mountains, tropical rainforest, woodland, freshwater lakes, swamps and savanna and of course were blown away by all the beautiful and impressive animals we met : lions, leopards, chimps, rhinos, crocs, hippos, impalas, giraffes, elephants, buffalos, kobs, many different kind of monkeys and so many more.
If you ever decide to go to Uganda, choose Grassrootz, Sander will build you the itinerary of your wishes and if you ask for Bob Magezi, you will have the trip of your life!

Amazing guidance for a fair price
We planned the trip ourselves before talking to Grassrootz. With Sanders help we managed to make it the perfect trip. Everything was planned so tight that we were able to get the best out of the trip for the best budget. We greatly appreciate him for all his time. Our local guide and driver Paul was with us during the whole trip. Everyday up early to drive and guide us to our destinations and happy to learn some Dutch words. He knows every road, place and deals with every situation resulting in a fluent trip without delays. He also was very flexible and arranged our local tours and hotels when required. We really recommend a travel with Grassrootz!

Unforgettable Experience
My partner and I did a five day trip, including Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, Murchison Falls and Kidepo. It was truly an incredible experience. Sander was great from start to finish. He was responsive to our priorities and our questions, always responding within 12 hours. Something went wrong when we tried to transfer payment from our bank. He helped us find another solution. Our guide, Paul, was knowledgeable, skilled in driving in some challenging settings, and just plain fun to hang out with for five days. The lodging was perfect, especially Savannah Lodge. The tents and beds were high quality. The views were spectacular. Meals were delicious and varied. The staff was great about accommodating my gluten allergy. Justin and Bonny were particularly hospitable, making us feel welcome and pampered with every interaction. I recommend Grassrootz with all my heart and soul!

very educational and structured throughout the whole tour.
Overall, I really liked the whole experience. The instructors were very clear in their explanations and so made the tour very educational and interesting. Also the places we stayed at during the safari were very well chosen and made the trip even nicer than it already was.

An unforgettable journey!
Personal contact, really listening to requirements, honoust advice, swift replies, clear communication, love for this beautiful country and its peopele and a wonderfull host at Jjaja Bbanga. That’s my experience with Sander and Grassrootz.
A 21day safari, by myself and with guide, covering Lake Mburo, Bwindi, Queen Elizabeth, Kibale, Murchisons, Kidepo (IK & Nakapelimoru), Sipi and as much as possible community based accomodation was the result based upon my requirements. The trip exceeded my expectations.
I was a bit worried about travelling for 21 days with a person never met before. On the first day this worry was taken away immediately. Paul is a real host. Driving safely, punctual, caring, know’s his way (and lots of people), loves to tell about the country, people and animals. Every evening during dinner the plan for the next day so well prepared. A very smooth trip.
All accomodations had its own charm or challenge but that’s what I wanted and liked. Some of them exceeded. Broadbill I really loved for its environment, good food and wonderfull care. Boomu’s womens group: Ednah is really an inspiring woman, a lady with a view and a clear missiom. Home of Friends, a beautiful new place with really great hosts and creating feeling of home by having dinner together and play games.
Gorilla and chimp trekking were extraordinary. To meet these animals face to face in their own habitat is so beautiful and special.
Kidepo in one word amazing and a must visit region. Guides Emma (to the IK) and Joseph (to the Nakapilemoru) made these visits extra special. Especially Joseph, sitting on sliding rock, overseeing the region and him telling the stories about the cattle raiding with the biggest smile I have ever seen. Felt like being part of the story.
I will reccomend Grassrootz warmly to everyone who want’s to experience the country and above all its beautiful people.
Thanks Sander & Paul for creating this wonderfull and unforgettable trip.

Wonderfull experience.
Our daughter lives in Kampala and that prompted me to make a wish of mine. It seemed very much in the context of the father-son relationship once to make an adventurous journey. The choice of destination was so easily made.
We are almost three week been in Uganda, and spent the weekend with our daughter, she has these days largely filled our program.
Through Grassrootz we have two midweek filled with the first week a trip to Murchison Falls National Park. The second week we went to lake Bunyonyi and the Gorrilla,s
Our driver / tour guide George Lingo picked us up in Kampala before leaving for Murchison falls. He is a very experienced driver and a very pleasant person to deal with. He has told us much of what we have seen on the road.
The accommodation for overnight in the park (Red Chilli rest camp) was a perfect location on a beautiful place.
From there we did a safari in the beautiful park with a lot of animals. George had arranged that a ranger came along with us. This was sure to bring a plus because they told a lot about the game but also knew us to the most beautiful places. We have seen all the common animals, sometimes just a few meters away.
We also made a boat trip on the Nile (from the water you see so many animals and birds!). We were dropped off by boat at the foot of the waterfall and from there to the top on foot climbed to where the water starts to fall. Very recommended. We're up here picked up by George.
Photo Moments to remember, lots of wild birds, nature, water, sunrise and sunset, but also very nice friendly people.
The second midweek , George brought us to Lake Bunyonyi. On the way we saw a lot. Also made a digression into a nature to see Zebras etc. We have had a number of nights here on a development project run by a Dutchman. (Amasiko.org). A great place right on the most beautiful lake in the world ( "The most beautiful lake in the World" (BBC Focus on Africa). Here you can safely swim and enjoy the otters.
From here we went to the rainforest to visit the mountain gorillas. This takes a bit but then you have something and you support the conservation of the species. There are also a lot of local people involved and financially dependent.
Before we went back to Kampala we Spent a night in a busch logde directly adjacent to the Queen Elizabeth park. Amidst the wild in a tent. What an experience.
From here made a chimpanzee track and then back to Kampala.
All pre-planned and agreed customized by mail. Very smooth and enjoyable contact Sander van Zanten of Grassrootz.
Next year I go with my wife again and Will book a trip through Grassrootz.

Excellent experience
I could absolutely recommend Grassrootz Safaris! Their prices are competitive, yet their services are great. The drivers are very skilled and good with guests and in case of any challenge a solution is made instantly. Service is at high level and the tours are very complete. Uganda is called 'the Pearl of Africa' for a very good reason and Grassrootz is the right safari company to go and discover this beautiful country with!

A most magical experience.
Right from the start when our guide Richard picked us we had the most amazing hoilday and experience. We were told each stop would be the experience of a life time and this was not wrong. Richard helped us navigate and even adapt our itinery to get the best out of our Uganda trip. A better guide we could not hope for, we felt safe and in good hands at all times. The accomidation and travel was spot on. I can't wait to come back again now that I know what this Magical country has to offer. Than you Grassrootz, Anne, Richard and all the team behind the scenes for making this trip special and never to be forgotten. My life time dream of visiting the Gorillas finally came true, but the trip offered so much more.

Grassrootz Adventures was excellent, the trip provided me with an amazing experience!
First of all the itinerary was tailor made as I had very limited time. Sander van Zanten, the founder of the company was very helpful in putting together the programme to really meet my needs and priorities, he was very responsive and straightforward which i found very helpful. This honesty and felxibility was the main reason I chose to travel with Grassrootz.
Once on the ground I had an excellent guide, Moses Kabubi, who was extremely helpful throughout and ensured I used our time to the maximum. He was very helpful in arranging local birdwatching tours, which for example were arranged locally and in esnuring everything ran according to clockwork. He is also very knowledgeable about the wildlife we saw and about the country and its communities, everything we did was done with respecting wildlife and local communities. I feel the overall value for money was very good too, we stayed in good, but not luxury lodges that were environment conscious. I had amazing experiences that were rich and varied, spending time in close contact with gorillas and chimpanzees was unforgettable, but the fantastic wildlife in the different national parks in addition to the ever changing landscape and smiling people made for a wonderful journey.
