Our tour operator was the best!
5/5

If you are looking for an experience of a lifetime do an African safari with Wilderness Legends! It was something my wife and I had been talking about for a couple of years. A referral from a friend got the trip in motion. Oh, what a referral that was. One always thinks of the animals one will see on safari. You won’t be disappointed from that perspective. We saw all of the big 7, most of them multiple times, and most of them from an up close and personal perspective. What I wasn’t prepared for was all the cultural excursions we experienced. We learned of the many tribes (over 120) currently living together in Tanzania and went to visit 3 unique tribes, the Maasai, the Hadzabe, and the Datoga. We also visited a community, the Mto Wa Mbu Village where many of the 120 plus tribes live and work together. Combine the safari / wildlife portion of the trip with the cultural aspects and the experience was electric. None of this could have happened without our expert guides, Baraza and Elia. They made it all happen. From their vast knowledge of the wildlife to their heartfelt desire that everyone have an experience of a lifetime. I truly could not imagine having better guides in all of Tanzania. I feel like I am rambling a bit but I have to mention the lodging. Every place we stayed, even the tent camps, were clean and very comfortable. The service was incredible. It was obvious that everything about the lodging was done with a plan and from a vast background of experience. Wilderness Legends is the way to go. What a value!

Wonderful experience!
5/5

This was a three-years, COVID-delayed experience, well worth the wait! The itinerary was great, the guides, Elia and Baraza, were excellent (and excellent drivers), the wildlife was abundant and varied - we managed all the "big 7" including the elusive rhino and cheetah. Our group voiced interest in the birds as well as the mammals, so we often made stops for birds spotted by the eagle-eyed guides. The accommodations were very good to great (especially enjoyed Manyara's Secret on Lake Manyara, and the two different tent camps), the food was adequate to good (we didn't go to Tanzania for the food after all), in general the service was very good. I'd not quite expected the long game drive days in the safari vehicles, bumping along on the sometimes quite rough dirt "roads," but stopping for nice long looks at all the wildlife made the slight discomfort all worthwhile.

Trip of a life time
5/5

Firstly, we have been to Africa previously and all over the world in 35 years of travel, so we are not wide-eyed, easily impressed people. Our guides, Donatus and Elia, we're beyond knowledgeable, helpful, friendly, and fun. they went out of their way beyond belief to make our trip pleasurable and convenient. As for the schedule, it was perfect, mixing degree of fanciness of lodging. Food was great! And the animals of the country, I have trouble explaining how bre as the taking. Been all over the world and this trip ranks inbthe Top Ten, probably Top Five, of any trip

Beyond Expectations!!
5/5

I would highly recommend Wilderness Legends. Donatus and his staff were organized, educational, helpful, friendly and fun. They expanded our understanding of Tanzania, including the culture, the people and the animals. They were attentive to the needs of the group. Each day was fantastic, filled with amazing sites and enriching experiences. Each day I just could not believe what an amazing trip we were having.
Our accommodations ranged from comfortable tent camps to beautiful lodges. I really enjoyed the tent camp in the Serengeti. We ate healthy and very delicious food every day.
After this trip....Africa, Tanzania, the people, the animals and our guides and drivers are forever in my heart. It was the trip of a lifetime for me!!

Unforgettable Wildlife Safari in Tanzania
5/5

I could never have imagined how beautiful and exhilarating a safari could be as what we had in Tanzania with Wilderness Legends. The trip was a perfect blend of wildlife viewing and of experiencing multiple cultures. We saw so many beautiful animals and we saw so many up close. Our drivers were amazing in that they knew which animals would be here and at what time of the day. And they were very generous in pulling over the land cruisers and letting us just inhale and enjoy the beauty of the wildlife in their kingdom. I also enjoyed the different cultures we got to experience. One of the best adventures was going on a morning hunt with the Hadzabe, the last true nomadic Tanzanians. T
Thank you Wilderness Legends for the safari of a lifetime!

Experienced guides, excellent drivers
5/5

We had a wonderful experience with Wilderness Legends Africa. Every detail of our trip was planned to perfection for us, from the generous lunch boxes to the wonderful accommodations. The guides amazed us by being able to pick out animals from a far distance, or from the deep camouflage of a tree. As Elia explained, "This is my office." They all knew many interesting facts about the animals and made the trip very interesting. I would highly recommend this company.

Wilderness Legends provides a outstanding experience and motivates you with their inspiring mission.
5/5

For 40 years, I've guided wilderness expeditions all over the world. Occasionally I get the chance to enjoy just being a team member rather than a team leader. This, my first African experience, was one such opportunity. I was thoroughly impressed with the professionalism, care & conviviality that our guides --Donatus, Loserian & Gido-- consistently provided throughout our 12-day adventure. In the tour business, it's understandable that guides sometimes become jaded, dealing with same litany of questions & concerns on every trip. But there was no hint of that on this superb safari. The Wilderness Legends crew fully shared our enthusiasm with every experience offered on this nicely varied itinerary. They patiently answered every question thoroughly (in excellent English) and responded with genuine interest to all of our insights & observations. We enjoyed an intriguing and enriching mix of cultural connections and wildlife encounters. The 4 reserves & 4 tribes we visited were distinctly varied and each was uniquely fascinating. The meals were ample, tasty & nutritious. The lodging varied from simple but comfortable tent camps to manicured resorts. All in all, a first-class, 5-star adventure! But it was also a very compelling experience given the concern and commitment Donatus & crew reflected about the destiny of Tanzania's cultural and wildlands heritage. In a nation buffeted by winds of change, they are clearly determined to be agents of sustainable progress rather than victims of destructive development. We witnessed and were inspired by their involvement with numerous conservation and community causes. The pride they shared about the different tribal heritages with which each of them are associated was infectious. One can only hope that their sentiments and sense of mission are shared by Tanzania's burgeoning class of young entrepreneurs. If so, the nation's destiny is in good hands. I highly recommend a Wilderness Legends Africa experience -- engaging, edifying & inspiring.

A mind-blowing experience of animal sightings and cultural connections; our guides were the BEST!
5/5

Our four guides were some of the nicest people on the planet! They were patient, informative, accommodating, courteous, and just FUN to be with. This trip far-exceeded my expectations, which were very high. I saw more animals and learned more about them than I ever expected, from black rhinos to giant millipedes. Our visits to the tribal villages were heartwarming as well as educational. All the lodging was exceptional, the food was outstanding, the variety of experiences was huge, and did I mention how nice our guides were?

I told Donatus, you should call it "OMG Safari Unlimited" it was all so excellent!
5/5

Donatus and his three driver/safari guides were awesome...way beyond my expectations. Their knowledge of Africa, Tanzanian history, geology, animal and bird identification, plants, all were excellent. Their English, better then my own sometimes, and their patience to answer our many questions, requests to stop to view something, all wonderful. But most important was the familiarity that Donatus and his drivers have with the customs, politics, and the educational system (he is a board member of a local secondary school we visited as well as a supporter of an orphanage that we also visited).
He took us on many side trips: to the market to buy a custom made shirt from a local seamstress who did not speak English but whom we still could communicate our wishes with his help; and to a special arts and crafts workshop called Shangwa, where all of the excellent and reasonably priced items were made by people with disabilities.
With Donatus and crew we never had any reason to worry, to be cautious, or to wonder if we were not being treated fairly, with respect and honesty. All the lodges we stayed at were excellent, whether in the city or at the Safari tent camp. Some even had pools. Donatus has connections, and he valued our desire to explore and seek new experiences rather than to just be a tourist taken from place to place. The food throughout our two week trip was also beyond expectations and the elegant service at each location was a pleasant surprise.
Donatus and his crew know how to treat their Safari guests. My appreciation of a culture and landscape so different from my own was inspiring. I have the deepest appreciation for his making this "trip of a lifetime" truly a memorable and satisfying experience.
