Knowledgeable, caring, great service, friendly
We recently went on a 7 Day custom Safari tour in Tanzania with Lion King Adventures, and it was truly an unforgettable experience! The wildlife sightings were simply amazing, and we were fortunate enough to see so many different animals in their natural habitats. We saw lions, elephants, rhinos, leopards, buffalos, giraffes, wildebeest, zebras, various antelopes, hyenas, jackals, foxes, hippos, crocodiles, and countless varieties of birds. It was a true feast for the eyes!
We stayed at some lovely lodges arranged by Lion King Adventures, which were safe and comfortable. The lodges were surrounded by elephants, Wildebeest, zebras, bucks, cheetahs, and leopards, but the staff took great care to ensure our safety at all times.
The service provided by Lion King Adventures was top-notch from start to finish. Caroline was extremely helpful with the initial process and communication, and Pendo devised a great itinerary and did all the bookings to the luxury lodges we stayed at. A special mention goes to our guide, Gama, who was simply fantastic. He made the trip more fun with his smile and enthusiasm, and he was one of the best guides anyone could have asked for. Gama was incredibly knowledgeable and skilled, and he made sure that we saw all the Big 5 game animals and many more. He was great at showcasing the best that Tanzania parks safari has to offer, and he was always ready to answer any questions we had about the wildlife or the parks.
Overall, I can't recommend Lion King Adventures enough. The team went above and beyond to ensure that every aspect of our trip was taken care of, and they truly made it a trip of a lifetime. Thank you to Caroline, Pendo, and Gama for making this such a special experience!

Unmatched
With so many safari companies to choose from, deciding who to spend a week with can be a daunting task, especially when you're doing it from 8000 miles away. Most operators have good reviews which makes the selection process even more challenging. The very first email that I received from Caroline spelled everything out. Information such as total cost, payment options, and ability to customize essentially every aspect of the trip, was provided. She presented me with a detailed itinerary for our private 6-day safari (Tarangire, Serengeti, Ngorongoro, Lake Manyara) which included the parks we would be visiting, travel time to each location, what to expect at each park, and lodging information. I ultimately selected my own lodges to stay at but Caroline answered all my question, provided feedback on my choices, and made recommendations to maximize park and animal viewing time. I can't explain it but from my initial correspondence with her, I knew that I was going to book with Lion King Adventures.
To secure your trip, you have to make a deposit and then have until 6 weeks prior to your trip to pay in full. You can pay via credit card if you value security though that incurs a fee. The other option is bank transfer and there are a couple ways of doing that. I have never paid for a trip that way because of the absence of financial protection. However, I got over my anxiety and ultimately paid via bank transfer and it went without a hitch (Caroline provided very detailed instructions so it turned out to be easy). Once you pay the deposit, the reservation team (aka Rose) takes over. Rose made sure everything was set prior to us leaving. Due to one lodge closing its booking window, I had to book it on my own, which resulted in a reduction in my payment to Lion King Adventures. I miscalculated and ended up overpaying. However, Rose brought this to my attention and when we were picked up at the airport, the driver returned my overpayment in cash. I tell this story because it is a testament to the honesty and integrity of Lion King Adventures.
When we arrived, we were met by one of their drivers who drove us to our lodge in Arusha. The following morning, we were picked up by Gilbert. Gilbert has been doing this for some time and this was evident by the end of the safari. Not only did he turn out to be great at spotting animals but he understood their behavior and passed this knowledge on to us. He got us up close to cheetah (which are not exactly easy to find during rainy season) so that made both of our kids very happy. He was super nice (he is easily someone that you would become friends with), prompt, accommodating, and clearly enjoys what he does. He also takes his time. In the parks, we were frequently passed by other safari vehicles. The reason is that he was constantly on the lookout for animals and there's no way to do that well if you're in a rush. The only time he did drive "fast" in a park was when he knew he had to get somewhere fast in order for us to see something special, like a leopard eating an impala. How does he know this? He is frequently communicating with other guides to find out if anyone else has come across something interesting.
Lion King Adventures is a local family owned tour operator and it felt like it. Every person I communicated with prior to the safari (Caroline, Rose, Edward) and during the safari (Gilbert) went the extra step to take care of us. They said in their introductory email "The nature of safaris can be quite adventurous and Lion King’s number one priority at all times is your safety" and this was very obvious. I said that we were often passed by other safari vehicles in the park. We were also frequently passed by other vehicles when traveling on regular roads. While they were clearly trying to get to their next destination as quickly as possible, Gilbert as well as the driver who picked us up at the airport cared only about us getting there comfortably and safely. We appreciated this.
Thank you to everyone at Lion King Adventures for making this an epic trip that we will cherish forever.

Better than I could have imagined
As a person who reads a million reviews before book anything, I can promise you this company is a great choice. My wife and I went Tanzania a few weeks ago (March 2023) and Lion King Adventures gave us an amazing tour and safari! We did a 7 Day Mid-Range safari which took us to Tarangire National Park, Lake Manyara National Park, Central Serengeti National Park and the Ngorongoro Crater.
Throughout these parks and the crater we got to see hundreds of elephants, baboons and hippos. Literally thousands of Zebras, Buffalo, Impalas and wildebeests. Several dozen lions, giraffe and hyenas which we got very close to. Two leopards runnings and at least four in trees. Two cheetah eating a zeebra. We also saw three rhinos in the Ngorongoro crater from about 40 meteres away. There are probably more animals that I am forgetting at the moment.
Our guide Macha was great. He was extremely knowledgable about so much regarding animals, vegetation, biodiversity, geographical history and all aspects of Tanzania and East Africa. He was a skillful game guide and never gave up on our search to spot animals.
All of our accommodations were amazing. I would speak on each camp we stayed at but I would just have to repeat myself because all of them had an amazing staff that were extremely friendly and helpful with anything needed. Each place had great food. I am a vegetarian and I had more than enough options to each everywhere. When we were out on the game tours most other companies would provide lunch boxes with a sandwich and snack for the guests, but Lion King provided us with a picnic style lunch with hot food and plates with plenty to eat.
I am really happy I picked Lion King over the other companies I looked into when planning this trip.

Outstanding Experience - Trip of a Lifetime
We had an amazing experience with Lion King and Mwita as our guide. He was incredibly knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the animals and their behaviour, always eager to answer our questions and provide fascinating facts about the wildlife. His sharp eyes and knowledge of the areas helped us spot some of the more elusive creatures. Our accommodation was first class, especially at Mt. Manyara Kilimamoja - it literally took my breath away - it was so stunning. The dinner and lunch time meals were delicious, and the family labelled wine was such
nice touch. Mwita is a terrific guide, great driver, great spotter of the animals and his knowledge of where they might be hiding was amazing!! We saw the big 5 and even though Mwita has seen these beautiful animals many times, he was very excited for us to see/experience them for our first time!!! . Overall, I highly recommend Lion King Adventures for a memorable and enjoyable safari experience.

Adventure of a lifetime
We were extremely skeptical in the beginning since paying with credit card was not possible and we had wire cash. Our skepticism was quickly eliminated upon arrival. Lion King was so on top of their game we hardly had time to think it and they were anticipating and delivering. We did a combination fly-drive safari, opting to fly between the crater and the Serengeti, eliminating 5 1/2 hours of ruff driving so we switched drivers about half way. Both drivers were outstanding and knew the roads and trails providing sightings of all the Big 5, plus dozens of other animals. We chose 5* lodging, all which was booked through Lion King. They can provide insights into great lodging as your budget dictates. I could go on and on about how pleased we were with Lion King services. One example how great the management is, we are avid photographers and one lodge seemed to not have the greatest view and we contacted the office to make sure we were booked into the absolute best room with a view, not expecting anything at this lodge. Within 15 minutes hotel staff arrived to move us to a different cottage. Totally not necessary, but they insisted. Probably one of the most important aspect was safety. Our drivers were so diligent in keep us safe and comfortable in areas with wild animals that could harm or kill people. In closing, if you chose Lion King you won’t be disappointed, knowledgeable and professional every step of the way.

Exceeded high expectations
The safari exceeded our expectation: from the 80 lions we saw (and most of them up close), to the cheetah hunt and 10 cheetahs and 3 leopards we saw up close, to the lodges we lived in (quite frankly the nicest places we have ever stayed in) and the service we received from Lion King. Flying to Arusha, KLM lost our luggage, but we didn’t have to do more than tell Lion King. Rose in the office called for us every day, making sure we didn’t lose our on important safari time and Gama, our guide, was on the phone with KLM at 4 in the morning to make sure the luggage was delivered to us in the morning before we went on our safari in Serengeti. We were impressed, to say the least. The safari was an incredible experience, and our guide Gama made sure we saw all the animals we had dreamed of seeing. He did so with a cheeky comment always on the ready, personalized wine, and always Coca Cola Zero and beer available in the car - an amazing guide. We always felt safe and taken care of.
All in all, we went in with high expectations. They were exceeded in every aspect; safari, lodging and guide. Would highly recommend to everyone. A special thanks to our guide, Gama, for making sure we saw all the we wanted to see, including the Big Five!

Unforgettable Safari Adventure with Guide Mwita and the Wonderful Team from Lion King Adventures
This was our first safari in magical Tanzania, with two adults and two boys aged 11 and 14, and it couldn't have been better. We were in search of a luxury safari and opted for the trusted company, Lion King Adventures.
We started on the popular northern circuit, a 7-day adventure that began in Arusha, where the director personally welcomed us to the fantastic atmosphere of the Gran Melia. During this safari, we explored the main parks: Tarangire, Lake Manyara, Serengeti, and Ngorongoro, staying in amazing accommodations & lodges. Following our safari, we enjoyed 9 days of relaxation on the beach in Zanzibar.
Our guide, Mwita, was extraordinary. He became a real part of our family during the trip. His knowledge about nature and the environment is phenomenal. What made Mwita even more remarkable was his warm and sociable personality. It's really important to have somebody around who gives you the best nature experience and makes you feel very special. Beyond his role as a guide, Mwita earned a lot of respect from his fellow guides because he has a lot of experience in vehicle maintenance and his knowledge about the Serengeti, where he grew up as a kid.
Everything was perfectly arranged, down to the last detail with this tour operator. Their communication is exceptional; they promptly respond to inquiries and consistently follow through on their commitments. Moreover, their fleet of vehicles is top-notch, well-maintained, and in great condition. Every detail reflects their dedication to ensuring an awesome travel experience.
After our amazing safari experience, we also took a two-day trip to Stone Town in Zanzibar. Then, we spent a luxurious seven days at the outstanding Spice villa in the Fruit & Spice Wellness Resort with a private beach and pool, where we were provided with exceptional service by our private butler, Emanuel. It was truly top-notch service!
To Lion King Adventures and Mwita, our heartfelt gratitude for this unforgettable adventure. It's a journey we'll cherish forever.

Everything was fabulous!
I would HIGHLY recommend Lion King Safaris AND specifically our marvelous tour guide, Immanuel Chamboa. He was wonderful and absolutely determined that we would miss nothing, even when we were ready to give up. As a result, we saw two black rhinos, a leopard, and two cheetahs, along with countless wildebeests, zebras, giraffes, impalas and other types of antelope, and many, many lions. Within the parks there were actually animals everywhere, but we also saw the hard-to-spot ones, due to Immanuel's diligence. We also waited to see an absolutely classic, National Geographic-worthy wildebeest crossing of the Mara River during the Great Migration. Immanuel looked after every detail. Our jeep was always clean, no matter how dirty it got from the copious dust, and stocked with cold water in the morning. Also, Lion King makes sure you have a beautiful hot lunch every day, served on actual plates with flatware. Most others had unappealing boxed lunches but ours was always delicious, prepared at the lodges and Immanuel took measures to be sure it was kept hot and clean. I cannot recommend it more emphatically. FYI our safari was 9 nights, 10 days in Tanzania - Serengeti National Park (two locations), Tarangire NP, and Ngorongoro. It was truly a trip of a lifetime.

It doesn’t get any better than Lion King Adventures.
There are not enough words to describe this safari, you have to experience it for yourself.
With over 1,000 tours companies, how do you know which one to choose? Months and months of research lead us to select Lion King Adventures. Then you need to decide which safari is right for you. We knew witnessing the Migration was number one on our list so we chose the 9-day safari. Then came time for the initial direct contact to begin. Edward, the tour company owner, was quick to respond and answered any and all questions. His communication from beginning to end was 100% and always very friendly and caring. There’s a lot of mixed information out there regarding visas, vaccines, etc. After Edward took care of our initial booking details, he handed us over to Rose. Amazing Rose! She either answered our questions or steered us in the right direction for correct information.
Now, the adventure began. We landed in Kilimanjaro where we were met by our driver. After a very long flight from the US and an hour drive to Arusha, we settled in to our first night at Ilboru Lodge. It was fun to sit at the little outside bar area and talk to others that just came off safari. They were full of stories!
The next morning we met our guide Yusuph that would be with us the remainder of our safari. We quickly loaded up our baggage and headed out to the bush. Beginning the very first day, we were in awe of what we were experiencing. One exciting day lead to another, even more special and jaw-dropping than the day before. We kept asking ourselves how it could possible get any better, but it did. Each morning we were met by Yusuph during breakfast. It was a great time to relax and get to know him. He also joined us at dinner and went over the next day itinerary. Lunches were always out in the bush, either under a tree with a spectacular view or a very nice picnic area with restrooms. Our lunches were delicious and we had plenty of beverages whether we felt like beer, wine, soda, or water.
We continued on every day to a new safari lodge or bush camp. Each location was different and so inviting. The friendliness and helpfulness of each and every place was overwhelming. We learned a little Swahili that Yusuph practiced with us while driving. It was fun to be able to greet our hosts and thank them in their native language.
When out on safari each day there were main roads (all dirt) that lead to lesser roads. They refer to these lesser roads as a game drive. We sometimes drove for hours without seeing another vehicle. We literally cannot express the number of animals we saw, and saw close up. Yusuph was a cautious and safe driver, all at the same time, spotting something we didn’t see the day before. The photos will tell the story of what we saw.
Finally, we witnessed two migrations. This was an incredible sight to behold and quite emotional as we’ve dreamed about this for so many years and now we were there! Sometimes you have to wait awhile to see if a herd is going to get up their nerve to cross the crocodile infested river. Once they start, it’s an unbelievable thing to watch. Yusuph was a pro at putting us right on a great view point so we could capture great video and photos.
We left with our hearts full, and a love for Africa that will be with us forever. If you’re thinking about going to Africa, don’t wait! Start here with Lion King Adventures where you’re guaranteed a most memorable experience.
Tips:
Bring an electricity plug adapter for Tanzania.
Malaria Pills; not for us. They actually made us very sick so we stopped taking them.
Bug spray to spray clothes and we found Sawyer Picaridin Insect Repellant worked great for face and any exposed areas. 14-hour protection.
Bring face cloths.
Super thin lightweight pants and shirts that can be rinsed out and dried overnight.
Safari hat with chin strap.
