Cannot recommend highly enough. Experienced, friendly, acutely understanding of the environment and both patient and understanding towards client interests and requests.

Outstanding service, exceptional attention to detail.

The review below is the personal opinion of Paul and not that of SafariBookings.
Bait and Switch on the hotel rooms, lectured repeatedly about tipping from guides
2/5

First, let me say that the guides did a solid job. They were friendly and got my entire group up the mountain. Now for the other part. The hotel we were originally supposed to stay in (Kibo Palace) was swapped out at the last minute for a place called the Keys Hotel. Don’t be fooled by the Keys three star rating, it is a one, maybe a two star. It’s not even close. I stayed at the Kibo Palace as I arrived a few days before my friends. The Kibo Palace is nice, an actual 3 star hotel. We all thought we were staying there as that is what Kilimanjaro on foot told us. It wasn’t till after my friends landed and were taken to the Keys Hotel that we learned otherwise. I had to change hotels from one I was already booked in.

Second issue, before we started to hike there was a meet and greet amongst the guides and our group. The guide must have spent a half hour talking about how much we should tip each person, which was well above what Kilimanjaro on foot had already recommended we tip, it seemed way excessive from this recommended amount.

Third, the guides got us up and down a day early. Not the worst thing, but it ends up that you have to book another night at the Keys Hotel which is quite expensive for the accommodations they offer. I would have been fine staying up on the volcano for our recommended time and coming down when we were scheduled to. This seemed like it was structured because the guides wanted an extra day off, not for our benefit. If they are able to get you up and down a day early it means they get a paid day off.

Fourth, the tipping is done not at the end of the trip but about half a day before. They make such a display about it and also make it a point that you had better tip generously or else. It's be better of Kilimanjaro on Foot to pay their people more and do away with the tipping all together and I wouldn’t have this awful taste in my mouth from the way the guides and sherpas behaved.

I would not recommend Kilimanjaro on foot for the reasons above. If you are aware of all of these factors you may want to consider them.

One of my most beautiful travel experiences
5/5

The organisation in advance with Alfa was uncomplicated, fast and very friendly. Everything worked wonderfully on site, from the transfer at the airport to the hotel, the accommodation I booked and everything else that was organised. The tour on the mountain was amazing, Ayubu the guide and the whole crew did a great job. I was able to fully enjoy the Machame tour every day and I have the crew to thank for the great job they did in reaching the summit. One of my best experiences, which I can recommend to everyone. It was fantastic! The safari we booked afterwards was also great. It included Lake Manyara, Tarangire, Serengeti and Ngorongoro. We were very lucky and saw some wonderful animals.
I recommend Kilimanjaro on Foot 100%, especially Ayubu as a mountain guide!

It was an absolutely fantastic experience
5/5

It was an absolutely fantastic experience. We went in a group in June and the weather was favorable for this type of activity - not too hot, not too cold. The ascent to Kilimanjaro was full of good emotions. The guides Calvin, Chacha and Lázaro, the cook Peter and the entire team at Porters were exceptional throughout the journey. Leader Calvin made excellent daily management of all the constraints for the ascent to be successful. Calvin, Chacha and Lazaro constantly monitored our physical and mental state, as well as constant explanations about the environment and the history of kilimanjaro. The food, in charge of Peter... what to say! Peter has turned his tent into a hotel restaurant kitchen. There was no lack of quantity or quality and very well prepared dishes. Thanks Chef Porters' team was relentless. His constant work capacity and joy, gave us good energy and motivated us to overcome the difficulties inherent in the ascent. The Safari experience was also intense. We saw a variety of species up close, visited and experienced rituals in the Maasai tribe and stayed in a small paradise called Sound of Silence. A magical Lodge, with a team concerned with our well-being from the first to the last second. Safari driver, Gift was excellent. Always punctual and professional, he managed the trip perfectly so that nothing was left to be seen. To the leader of the company, Alfa, our thanks, from the beginning to the end of the activity, he was always available to solve any matter and was totally open to the achievement of our objectives. Congratulations Alfa, for your work and for the excellent team you created.

Perfect from start to finish
5/5

First and foremost I just want to say the whole experience of dealing with this company has been brilliant. If you read no more on this review other than these first few lines.....book with confidence through this company. They pay their staff fair wages and on time, they are very ethical.

Now for more depth - Alfa was my first point of contact and without his help and suggestions we could have had a much harder choice to make. He suggested the best combination for us to get Kilimanjaro and a safari into our trip at a very reasonable price.

I think it's safe to say that no expedition is without it's trials and tribulations but our team of guides and porters up Kili were first class. I'd like to mention Calvin and Cha Cha (our guides) who were phenomenal...Calvin was my lead guide for the summit push and he was instrumental in his encouragement. It's certainly a challenging day! He was always just far enough ahead of me to keep me going and keep me motivated. For me (and from previous experience), he was a truly professional guide and knew how to get the most out of those in his care....thank you for everything Calvin.

As for the rest of the porters....well, what can I say other than I am in awe of their physical ability, their friendliness and their cheer. They made carrying the biggest loads look so effortless and without them the whole trip would have been impossible. I really, really want to thank each and everyone of them. James was so good with us as was Alex, Peter (the chef) made such tasty and hearty meals, the 'Cowboy' to name just a few but every single porter was amazing, I'm sorry I can't mention each one individually.

Our safari was just as amazing and intimate as Kilimanjaro, what an experience. Our guide and driver Bacari put in 3 massive days showing us around the Serengeti and the Ngorongoro Crater, driving us up close to all the animals we could find for some spectacular photo's and memories. Our Chef (Emanuele) this time around was again fantastic, he made some very flavoursome food indeed.

Now we booked in March and we were a little concerned that we might have hit the rainy season and that it might dampen our experience (forgive the pun) but nothing could be further from the truth. It was actually quieter than peak season, we (as a couple) were the only clients in our group for both Kili and the safari which was amazing in itself. To be fair I think March was actually a great time to visit and it actually helped provide just a little more work for our guides before the season completely dried up. From my experience, I'd recommend early - mid March as a fantastic time to visit, maybe we were lucky weather wise but it proved to be the optimal period for us.

So, one last time....... Thank you EVERYONE at kilimanjaro-on-foot for inviting us into your spectacular country, making us feel welcome and helping us to explore so many wonderful and unique experiences.

Great hospitality and patients
5/5

One of my client of whom had 84 years old and no power and balance at all, but only had the proud and self wishes strongly.

Around 22:00, upon arriving in Horonbo hut, before 2 kilometers to Horonbo hut, he had collapsed by himself. The guides and the porters tried to let him on the hand carrying car though. But he denied to be carried on with his violentaly act to their.

Finally he had been carried on it with nothing apologized. Next morning, I apologized to them in stead of him.
These guides said that " everybody going to be old ages. That's normal situation for us too ".

He could step on the saddle 4000m and he could be enjoyed the view of Killimanjaro with great hospitality and patients of the guides and porters.

Sincerely thanks a lot.

Great team
4/5

I had a great hike with the team.
They kept me motivated and they always made me feel I was with one of my own.

The last day was incredibly challenging however with their support motivation and dedicated focus it was quite easy.

I am eternally grateful to have met these guys.

So I would recommend
Pay the extra
Get a personal loo
Get a personal shower

This just makes the hike over 8 days just that little bit more tolerable.

Also if you have a preference of a type of food, let them know.

Soup and salad gets a little tiring when your taste buds are being non responsive
