James was more than a guide, he was like a travel companion and I enjoyed every minute with him.
5/5

I spent five days photographing in Amboseli NP and five days in the Masai Mara NR with James and Wild Portraits Safaris in January 2025. He also coordinated and organized a four day gorilla trekking adventure in Rwanda for me. I started planning this trip about six months in advance and was so impressed with his prompt replies to my many questions and clear communication.
Once I arrived it quickly became obvious that James is very experienced, prepared, thoughtful, energetic, enthusiastic and always on time (early actually). He has outstanding knowledge and years of experience with wildlife behaviour, ecology and conservation biology and I enjoyed our regular conversations about these topics.
He has an outstanding ability to read animal behaviour, know what they will do next, and position you to photographically make the most of the available light, the subject, the landscape and composition. He’s always watching these variables and repositioning when necessary to keep you in the best possible position.
James and Wild Portraits Safaris organized the perfect trip for me and I always felt safe and comfortable. He is such a nice, professional, thoughtful person that he quickly became more of a friend than a guide. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend his services and I can’t imagine travelling his part of the world with anyone else.

My son and I have experienced an absolutely fantastic and unforgettable safari trip thanks to James and Wild Portrait Safaris. Thanks to his experience and deep understanding and respect for wildlife and its surroundings, he gave us so much more than we could ever have dreamed of. Extremely sympathetic and responsive. We have felt so well taken care of and safe. A comprehensive concept that was very convenient where he booked everything and was by our side the whole time. We have not missed anything.

5/5

I have now been on two amazing safaris with James and his company.
I can hardly imagine doing it with anyone else – truly!

Beyond his vast knowledge of both wildlife and nature, as well as his deep respect and care for all living things, you find yourself wrapped in a bubble of incredible experiences that touch you on a profound level – a bubble you never want to leave.

James makes you feel relaxed and comfortable. Serious moments are mixed with humor and warmth, creating an atmosphere where you can truly enjoy yourself.

One important thing to remember in nature is that you can never be guaranteed to see one thing or another – nature is what it is. But with James’ experience and expertise, you have the chance to see so much, even the most unexpected.

Would I recommend Wild Portraits Safaris? A thousand times over!

Amazing Sarafi Experience - Beyond my wildest dreams
5/5

Our safari experience October 2024 was amazing. The time w/ James was beyond all my expectations. He is so knowledgeable about the animals and I learned so much. It was way beyond just viewing - but 100% educational. About how the animals interact, care for each other, mate, stay in families or not etc. James has so much soul and is so passionate about his work and sharing his knowledge with those in his jeep. I can’t recommend James enough - I feel so lucky that we landed with him as our safari guide! You will be so happy if you book your Safari with James at Wild Portrait Safaris!

It’s about the guide
5/5

Picture yourself here. No other safari vehicles. Just you, your family or friends. And the amazing expanse of savanna and unforgettable memories. James Muchina at Wild Portraits Safaris is your key.

When you combine James’s knowledge of the various ecosystems with his deep love of sharing that information, you’re in for the most incredible safari. I came away with the renewed understanding of how woven together and interdependent all the various pieces of life are, not just in the Kenya parks, but worldwide.
If you’re looking for a guide whose enthusiasm enriches your safari experience, contact James.

MASAI MARA
5/5

Dear James,

I cannot thank you enough for organizing such a phenomenal safari experience in Masai Mara. The hotel and food were absolutely outstanding, adding so much comfort to our adventure. A special thanks to Mr. Charles for his incredible patience and knowledge. Thanks to him, we were fortunate enough to see the majestic Big Five—lion, leopard, elephant, rhino, and buffalo—along with other incredible wildlife like giraffes, zebras, cheetahs, and hippos. Every moment was unforgettable, and it was all made possible through your meticulous planning. Thank you once again for making this such a remarkable trip!

Professional, reliable, exceptional.

We loved the experience of a private tour with Wild portraits safaris. James organized everything, so that the accomodation lodges, food and tour were absolutely great. He remained connected and attentive at all moments and gave a very good service. Tim, our guide has a huge amount of knowledge about nice spots and the wild life. Thanks to his pugnacity, we had the chance of observing many animals and also the big five. He explained the behaviour and way of life of each species so we learned a lot. He made our experience lovely and unforgetable.

Breathtaking safari experience with James and team of Wild Portrait Safaris
5/5

I had the opportunity to take an 8-day trip to Kenya with Wild Portraits Safaris, and I must say it was one of the best decisions of my life. The trip was well-organized, comfortable, and full of amazing wildlife encounters. I visited three different national parks: Amboseli, Lake Nakuru, and Masai Mara, and each one had its own unique charm and beauty.

Amboseli National Park
The first stop of the trip was Amboseli National Park, where I witnessed the majestic sight of Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in Africa. The park is home to hundreds of elephants, as well as zebras, giraffes, wildebeests, and many other animals. I was lucky enough to see a large herd of elephants crossing the road right in front of our vehicle, and it was a breathtaking moment. The park also has a variety of birds, such as flamingos, pelicans, and storks, that add color and life to the landscape.

Lake Nakuru National Park
The second stop of the trip was Lake Nakuru National Park, which is famous for its pink flamingos that cover the lake's shore. The park also has a rich diversity of wildlife, including rhinos, lions, leopards, buffaloes, and hyenas. I was thrilled to see a rare sighting of a black rhino and white rhinos, which is one of the most endangered animals in the world.

Masai Mara National Reserve
The last stop of the trip was Masai Mara National Reserve, which is the ultimate destination for any wildlife lover. The reserve is part of the Serengeti ecosystem, and hosts the annual migration of millions of wildebeests, zebras, and gazelles, who cross the Mara River in search of greener pastures. The reserve is also the best place to see the Big Nine. I was fortunate enough to see all of them, and even witnessed a dramatic chase between a lions and a buffalos. The reserve also has a rich cultural heritage, as it is the home of the Masai people, who are known for their traditional lifestyle and colorful attire.
The best guides and service
None of this would have been possible without the excellent service and guidance of Wild Portraits Safaris. James, organized everything meticulously, from the accommodation, transportation, meals, and activities. He was always attentive, friendly, and professional, and made sure that I had everything I needed. Surat, another guide, was knowledgeable, experienced, and passionate about wildlife. Both of them knew where to find the best sightings, and how to position the vehicle for the best photography. They also shared interesting facts and stories about the animals and the places we visited. I highly recommend Wild Portraits Safaris to anyone who wants to have an unforgettable and thrilling experience in Kenya. They are the best in the business, and they will make your dreams come true.

Wild Portaits Safaris is your best bet for an unforgettable experience
5/5

We just came back from our second safari trip with James of Wild Portraits Safari. We had the greatest possible experience during our 9 day-trip from Amboseli (Kenya), to Tarangine, Ngorongoro, Serengeti (Tanzania) and then to the Mara in Kenya. The full trip was well organized and included so many highlights: beautiful sights, the landscapes, the wildlife, James' ability to find the quiet spots with magnificent viewing, great accommodations, breakfast in the Mara, horseback riding amongst buffalo, hyena and giraffes, and of course James' great company, his care for his guests and his drive to make the full experience perfect. We are already planning our next visit and will certainly travel with James again. I highly recommend his services to anyone looking for a fantastic vacation.
