Fantastic - really well run, friendly and knowledgeable guides who knew the national park well
A fantastic safari - our guides knew the park well, and as such we saw a wide variety of animals in their natural habitat. Very well run!

Excellent Trip
Brilliant all round trip to Akagera National Park. Guides were knowledgeable, timely and friendly and clearly had good information on where animals had been spotted and how to find them as we reliably found the animals we were looking for. The vehicles were great for seeing animals through the roof hatch and the lunch stop was pretty good food in a very picturesque setting near a lake.
I hadn't really been aware of safari in Rwanda prior to this trip and was amazed by how much we saw having been in more well-known safari destinations previously - large groups of lions, Elephants, Hippos, Giraffes, Rhinos and Zebra to name just a few. Splitting the trip in to a boat safari and land safari was a nice touch too as added to the diversity of what we saw. Would highly recommend.

Great organization; nothing was difficult. Thank you!
Great experience both this time and last time Mwaka organized our family tour (Nov. 2022). Nothing was difficult (except maybe what is outside their control, like Gorilla permits), and service with a very positive spirit. I hope I will have another opportunity to visit and have Mwaka and Makario in charge of my destiny and destination! And kudos to the driver/guides as well. MURAKOZE!

Makario is 5 stars!
Thanks to Makario I had an amazing day on my gorilla trek. I appreciated that there were a lot of interactions with the company from the time of booking, to keep me appraised of the formalities process and plenty of recommendations before the trek On the day, every thing ran very smoothly and I saw plenty of gorillas, and was able to get very close to them which was quite special. Special thanks to Mwaka for the flawless organisation and to Godfrey for being an excellent driver and travel companion!

Overall we are happy enough to recommend Makario Safari
Mwaka from Makario Safari was in charge of our booking. She is responsive and helpful. The experience will have been a solid 5 rating hadn’t we felt pressured by time and the way the driver drove us back from the tour. It was traffic plus he sent us to collect our luggages from the airport (as they were delayed by 60 hours since we last saw our baggage), it was taking longer than expected and I can understand that he was bit agitated by the situation. To be fair, we also would like everything smooth and not wasting our time had it was a choice that we could make.

Absolutely wonderful!
Our safari in Akagera was superb! We started our day early with being picked up at our hotel. Included in our trip was breakfast at Imaging which was about half way to the park. Once at the park we started with a boat ride and enjoyed seeing hippos and a variety of birds. The rest of the day was for driving through the park and we saw numerous zebra, varieties of antelopes, water buffalo, baboon, elephant, giraffe & lions. We also enjoyed a delicious lunch halfway through the drive.
Overall a wonderful experience!

Awesome trip
Our Makario Safaris guide, Vincent, was lovely and very informative, and our whole experience was amazing. The trek to see the Gorillas was hard (even the "easy/medium" rated trek), but the time with the Gorillas was an awesome experience that ore than made up for that. Our tour also included a visit to the cultural village which was a lot of fun, and a visit to the Genocide Memorial which was sobering but rewarding and a trip to an art co-operative run by an orphan of the genocide. The whole tour was well organised - from the time we were first met at the airport customs area for our pcr test at the start, to being assisted at check-in for our flight when we left. Thank you!

Outstanding Experience with Makario Safaris.
I spent a month traveling in East Africa (Rwanda, Tanzania, and Zanzibar). The entire trip was organized by Makario Safaris and it was an amazing trip. I worked with Mwaka Utanje who was patient, flexible, very responsive, and able to work in English or French. She helped me through the issues I had with making the wire transfers and everything fell into place. She organized my trip through three different agents, and it was seamless. Each portion of my trip exceeded my expectations. The accommodations were wonderful.
Godefroid, my guide through Rwanda was amazing. His knowledge of animals, birds, and Rwanda itself was fabulous. I learned so much while enjoying it all. We went to three National Parks, saw Gorillas, Golden Monkeys, Chimpanzees and so many animals in Akagera. I recommend it all.
The game drives in Tanzania were wonderful also, seeing all the animals that live there.
I was a solo traveler and never once felt unsure or unsafe. I would highly recommend Makario Safaris for travels in East Africa.

Thank you very much for this perfect trip
All was very good. The transports, the communication, the lodges, the safaris. The driver was very friendly.
Well organized excursion and close follow-up on bookings
Mid-November 2022 I participated to the mountain gorilla excursion, organized by Makario Safaris.
Up to the date of the trekking, the tour operator was closely following up on all arrangements (questions from our travel group, practicalities, etc.).
On the day of the trekking, the tour operator came to our hotel to ensure that everybody was en route to the right destination and with the right group. Our driver was very kind and also our guide on site was very nice and taught us everything we wanted to know about the gorillas (same for the trackers, who ensured our safety and following the instructions when approaching the gorilla family).
Meeting Pablo's family was a once-in-a-lifetime experience, which I would recommend anybody travelling to Rwanda!
At first, I was frozen to the ground when seeing them for the first time, but the guide and the trackers ensured that we all felt safe and got more comfortable overtime. They did a great job and the gorillas were amazing too! :)
