Logistics were perfect, tour was perfect, and Ronald was so cool!
5/5

I wrote to 3 different tour operators for a gorilla experience in Bwindi. On safaribookings.com, the prices were all pretty comparable, but I picked 3 companies with trips that generally matched the tour we were looking for. Of the 3, only 2 wrote back, and only Frena wrote me back within 24 hours. Fred was great at responding to my messages quickly, and was able to secure gorilla permits quickly. He was also able to accommodate my requests to change the itinerary without any issues. The day before our trip started, he messaged me on WhatsApp and put me in touch with our driver/guide Ronald. On the day of the tour, Ronald showed up exactly on time, and took wonderful care of us for the next few days. He was super attentive and was always available for anything we needed. Unlike some other tour guides we’ve been with in Africa, he was never on his phone, and he was always available to engage with us and help us in any way we needed. And even though the gorilla trekking is all organized by the Ugandan Wildlife Authority, I just want to say that too was great. In hindsight, knowing how smooth everything went, I wish we booked more time in Uganda/Rwanda. While I can’t comment on the dozens of other companies offering tours to Bwindi, I can say for sure that Frena Adventures is a no-brainer.

Incredible experience in 4 days gorilla’s tour
5/5

Ronald is a really nice and kind guide in these four days. Not only his professional experience but his welcome warm smile. During the trip, he let us know the culture differences between Rwanda and Uganda. It was great communication during driving time. Also, the time management are quite well to let us always can catch up the trekking on time. We saw a lot of golden monkeys, one silverback gorilla and even the baby one! He definitely not just tour guide but as a friend in Uganda! Awesome tour I will never forget!

Great tour operator and amazing tour. Everything was perfect
5/5

Tour to Rwanda and Uganda with Frena was amazing. It was organised perfect. Everything was on time and according to plan. Our guide and driver Dismas was great. When we needed he was very professional, and also he was great companion - very friendly, positive, and full of knowledge. Highly recommend tour with Frena and Dismas. And to compare. After 4 days tour in Uganda we had 4 days Safari in Tanzania. In Tanzania was very bad - they just want to earn a lot of money and not trying at all. So if you thinking about tour and Safari in Africa - go to Uganda - the country is beautiful, people very friendly, and tour company like Frena and guides like Dismas just great and perfect. They try hard to make your tour amazing.

Fantastic experience with our guide, Ronald!
5/5

We had an absolutely amazing time on our Frena tour with our guide, Ronald. From the moment I contacted Fred, the owner, I got quick responses. He answered all my questions and let me make adjustments to our itinerary until it fit exactly what we wanted. We flew into Entebbe, and Ronald picked us up at our hotel. We did a 10 hour drive to Bwindi and Ronald answered literally ANY question we had for him. He brought us to a delicious Ugandan buffet, helped us withdraw cash from the ATM, and made sure we had everything we needed during that long drive.

We spent 2 nights in Bwindi at a beautiful lodge with the most incredible views for our gorilla trek. Prior to the trek, Ronald informed us exactly how it would happen, so we were never unsure or confused when we arrived. From there, we stayed 2 nights near Queen Elisabeth National park where Ronald took us on multiple game drives and did everything he could to make sure we saw as many animals as possible. He was so good at spotting the animals and stopped and slowed down anytime we wanted photos and videos. He completely catered to us and made the experience so amazing by telling us all about the animals we were seeing and again, answering all of our questions. The lodge was absolutely stunning and we fell asleep to the sounds of hippos every night! We also did a channel cruise while there where we were literally within 10-20 feet of hippos and elephants and so many birds. We spent our last night in Kibale at yet another gorgeous lodge. We did chimpanzee trekking there (which I recommend—it is just as amazing as the gorillas, but is easier!). We drove by other tourist vehicles that had a lot of tourists inside and felt so spoiled by our private tour with Ronald!

A few things:

1. We were in a tourist van that had a roof that popped up. We thought it was great, but I guess some have been disappointed in the past we were told. Ronald mentioned that you can request other types of vehicles. So be sure to ask Fred about that. But the van was comfortable for our long drives and it was perfect for our game drives.

2. This company is owned by a man from Uganda. I wanted our money to stay in Uganda, so I chose Frena.

3. The lodges all provide three meals a day. We were never hungry.

4. Fred is running the whole thing, so don’t be concerned if it takes a day or two to hear back from him. It’s only him answering all the emails!

5. You won’t be connected with your driver until the night before. Don’t worry! I was a little stressed about that, but you’ll get a what’s app message connecting you, and once connected, you’ll always get responses from your driver when you’re not with them.

6. I felt so safe being shown around by Ronald. A lot of people told us we should stay in Rwanda instead, claiming Uganda isn’t safe. We never once felt unsafe.

7. It literally is a private tour. I honestly didn’t realize this until a few months after we booked!

8. You pay half the tour when you book. You pay the second half later. If you plan to pay when you arrive, you must do so in cash. So be sure to ask BEFORE YOU LEAVE if you don’t want to be carrying thousands of your currency abroad. My friend who used Frena warned me of this, so we just paid with card a month before our trips.
9. When you’re on the treks, a lot of tipping is expected by the other people involved, so bring small bills (they accept US dollars, euros, and pounds).

Again, I cannot recommend Frena enough. I seriously felt like Ronald was just our friend showing us around his home country. We saw so many amazing animals and had so much fun while doing it. Do not hesitate—book Frena! Look at my photos to see how great it was!

Excellent tour operator
5/5

Fred was very easy to communicate throughout the initial process. Very quick to answer all questions and we adapted our itinerary a number of times which he was very accommodating with. The collection at the airport was swift and easy with Ronnie, our tour guide and driver. Every day Ronnie would provide clear instruction on the next day including timings and for each activity. Ronnie was also very excellent at driving in some tough conditions. He was always happy to help with the many questions we had. Thank you Ronnie and Fred for a wonderful experience

Very well organised tour
5/5

We booked a 3 day gorilla trekking tour online with Fred and had an incredible time! Ronnie picked us up from the airport and took us to different activities planned around our timings and interests, was really nice and a great driver. Everything went really smoothly with no surprises. This was my 12th country visited in Africa and probably the best experience I’ve had.

Unforgettable 4-Day Safari with Frena Adventures
5/5

We had an absolutely wonderful 4-day safari with Frena Adventures. From start to finish, everything was very well organized. The breathtaking scenery in Uganda and Rwanda left us in awe, with lush landscapes and diverse wildlife that made every moment unforgettable. Our guide, Gerald, was great - knowledgeable and friendly. Our only regret is not having spent more time there. We highly recommend Frena Adventures for anyone looking to embark on a memorable safari.

Great Experience
5/5

We travelled as a group of 6: 3 couples, with Frena Adventures from Kigali (Rwanda) to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest to hike with the Endangered Mountain Gorillas, where we also did a Batwa Village Cultural Visit. The experience was second to none. The next day, we travelled to Volcanoes National Park to see the Golden Monkeys. Again, exceptional (though, after the gorillas a bit vanilla 😉) Ronald, our driver and guide was friendly, a good driver, knowledgeable and very helpful. The mini-bus he drove was comfortable and clean. The accomodations (mid-range) were great, as were all the meal inclusions and endless bottled water provided. Would warmly recommend Frena Adventures

Farouk was an excellent guide. Very friendly, knowledgeable, and trustworthy.
5/5

Our adventure in Rwanda and Uganda with Frena was magnificent. Our guide Farouk consistently exceeded our expectations. He drove us many hours throughout Uganda and Rwanda while sharing the rich history and culture of both nations. The gorilla tour itself in the Bwindi national forest was out of this world spectacular. We were a mere 5 feet away from a family of gorillas including 2 babies. My wife and I had such an amazing time. We highly recommend this tour to anyone and are already considering to go back in a few years.
