Friendly and accomodating operator trying to fullfill all our wishes.
Our experience with Crater Explorer was very good. The communication with Emanuel the owner was always swift and to the point and very convenient via email. Upon arrival he explained us the details of the tour again and asked for any additional wishes.
The guide on our Safari was Frank - a freelance guide which is very common in Tanzania. He was extremely knowledgeable, always friendly, accomodating our wishes and fun. Everything was as expected by the tour description upfront. The Jeep was comfortable with a rooftop to pop open.
The accomodations were good - clean and spacious rooms, local food mostly as buffet for breakfast and dinner and a warm lunchbox every day on safari. Only on our first and last night in Arusha it was a B&B where we paid for dinner which was very affordable.
All in all a great value for money and we would definetely do it again!
The tour we did was starting with 1 night in Arusha upon arrival, 1 day Tarangire NP with a sleep over at Karatu Farm of Dreams Lodge, 2 nights in Serengeti Heritage Camp with the first day being a half day game drive en route passing by Ngorongoro Crater Rim and half day Southern Serengeti game drive. The second day in Serengeti was a full day game drive in central Serengeti. 1 day in Ngorongoro Crater floor and 1 day cumtural experience visiting the Hadza, Daatoga and Maasai tribe. After 1 night in Arusha we went to see the Materuni waterfall and a coffee tour. Upon request Emanuel also organized a hotel for our last night in Tanzania before going to the airport the following morning.
We saw tons of wild animals - all the big 5. Definetely a great tour for 5 days!

Such a great experience
We had such a great experience with Crater Explorer! We booked the trip from Italy and Emmanuel planned everything according to our requests. We did a group Safari, which in our opinion is the best choice in terms of price and of sharing experiences. The first thing that you need to know with a group Safari is that you need to be flexible and patient because sometimes can happen to change group or guide or plans, the thing that will never change are the parks you have to visit according to your choice. We had the opportunity to see the big five and many other animals, our guides were amazing! Also the food and the accommodations were good.
We strongly suggest this experience and crater explorer made everything perfect!

Amazing trip with lovely guide
We booked a four day tour to tarangire, serengeti and ngongoro and saw many animals included the big5. Our guide fredy was very friendly and a very good driver. He explained us a lot about the nature and the wild animals.
Besides the stunning nature, we enjoyed our trip because of the nice food during the day and the very well selected accomodations. Everything was on time and worked as agreed. Would highly recommend.

Great safari experience!
We loved our 3 days budget safari to Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater. Communication with Emanuel was smooth and everything was well explained and organised. We were happy with our accomodation, food was also very tasty and the safari car really comfortable. Very reliable team, definetely recommended!

Excellent trip!
Very well arranged by Emmanuel, as per our needs from start to finish (as we were a couple and booked private).
Selected accommodations had breathtaking views and great food.
Our guide Frank was excellent in his knowledge of the areas and of the wild. (he is Masaai). We got to see the big 5 and we were lucky to get close encounters with the cheetahs. All thanks to Frank.
Additionally I caught a fever during the trip, and Frank made sure that I was okay. He arranged and took us to the hospital for medical treatment.
Look no further, book Crater Explorer Tours and ask for Frank as your guide. You will love it!!
Authentic Tanzania experience and great value for the money.
Crater Explorer is a great value with kind people who help experience the wonders of Tanzania. Their guides and porters are friendly, profesional and focused on you having a great time.
I highly recommend them if you want to have a more authentic experience at a lower cost. While they don’t have the newest gear, and schedules/plans can shift, they do provide personal attention and are flexible to work with.
Do not expect “luxury” and “westernized” experiences of the more expensive outfitters which have the newest gear, modern amenities and cookie cutter offerings.
Suggestions:
1. Bring more cash than you would expect, while there are atms and some places accept credit cards it’s not reliable
2. Having a way to filter your water is critical (such as Grayl Bottle)
3. Do your own research prior, people are responsive but not always detailed
4. Expect power to go out in the towns most days 7p-10a, if not more often
5. Expect to be in vehicle for a few hours as things are far apart; police check points are common and your driver handles them
6. Keep Hakuna Matata (no worries) in mind as things will change, but it’s all works out
If climbing Kilimanjaro:
1. Bring cash to tip about 15-20% for guides and porters; they depend on tips and earn them (only newer USD$ as they don’t accept older bills)
2. This is a useful gear list (https://followalice.com/knowledge/kilimanjaro-packing-list)
3. Rain gear, poncho and bag cover are key, even not during rainy seasons
4. Convertible pants, full zippered rain pants and other layers easy to take on/off are key as the weather/temperature change multiple times during a day
5. If you can, bring older gear/clothes to give to guides/porters afterwards; they depends on donations for all their gear (headlamps and batteries are gold!)
6. Sunscreen early and often, especially the higher you get
7. Choose the route which best meets your goals; each route has its pluses and minuses
8. Physically prepare prior, you want to be in shape enough to enjoy the experience, not just survive it
9. “Polé polé” (loose translation “slow and steady”) is key; each day by itself is easy but they add up and you want plenty left in tank for the summit
Enjoy! It’s a once in a lifetime experience

Amazing experience! Perfect execution!
Create Tours did a fantastic job with their safari tour. We did a 4 day tour and visited Tarangire, Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater and had the best time! We got to see all of the big five and ate amazing food. Our accommodations before, after and during the tour were done really well and everyone was friendly throughout the tour. I would definitely recommend Crater Tours to others!
Budget friendly, local flavor, no frills tours and guides
My friend and I did the 6 day Machame Route on Kilimanjaro, a day trip to Tarangire, and a day trip to Mataruni waterfalls/coffee farm. We were very satisfied with all of the tours. Emmanuel was very responsive and accommodating to all the last minute plans/changes. The drivers were always on time, and delivered what was expected from each respective trip. Be advised however, that much of the prep for Kilimanjaro is your own responsibility, so do your own research on what to bring - there are plenty of lists online but some notable things to include would be: 1. water filtration throughout trip 2. rain jacket, rain backpack cover, AND poncho 3. clothing layers (as opposed to one big article of clothing) 4. comfortable daypack with plenty of support. 5. quality headlamp with extra batteries.
