Extremely Disappointing Experience – Do Not Recommend
We had an awful experience with Explorers Wild Adventures and cannot recommend this company.
The safari vehicle they provided was completely unfit for purpose, which caused us to miss an entire game drive — one of the main reasons we booked this trip. When we raised the issue, the company admitted fault and promised to refund the park fees for the day we lost. Months later, despite repeated follow-ups, we have still not received our refund and they are now ignoring our messages.
A safari is a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and the lack of professionalism, poor communication, and failure to deliver what was promised ruined what should have been a highlight of our trip to Kenya. There are many reputable operators in Kenya — avoid this one if you want reliability, honesty, and a properly run safari.

Posted on Sep 15, 2025Dear Anita,
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us. We value every review, as it helps us improve and better serve our travelers. We sincerely regret that your experience did not fully meet your expectations.
We deeply apologize for the vehicle breakdown on the first day and the inconvenience caused by the wait for the replacement vehicle. As soon as we received the report from your driver-guide, a replacement was dispatched promptly, and you were able to proceed with your journey that same day, including enjoying lunch en route. Please rest assured that our vehicles undergo thorough inspections after every safari to ensure they are mechanically sound. Unfortunately, this was an unforeseen and rare occurrence something that can happen to any safari company and we truly regret that it affected the start of your trip.
Regarding the missed evening game drive in the Masai Mara, we understand your concern. However, upon reviewing the matter with your driver-guide, he reported that you requested to go directly to the lodge to rest, as you told him being tired from a previous city tour in Nairobi. Given that there was ample time to arrive for the evening drive, your guide respected your request. To ensure you still enjoyed a full safari experience, we instructed him to extend your game drives on the second day to compensate for the missed activity.
With regard to the park entry fees, kindly note that these are paid in advance to the park authorities and were non-refundable at the time you were requesting for the refund, which is why we were unable to process the refund you requested.
We also note that during your safari you did not raise any issues regarding the lodges or your driver-guide, and we are pleased that the remainder of your trip went smoothly without further concerns.
While we have had the privilege of hosting hundreds of travelers who have left us positive reviews, we truly regret that certain aspects of your safari did not meet your expectations. Please know that your feedback is extremely valuable to us, and we will continue working hard to ensure every guest enjoys the best possible safari experience.
Once again, we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused at the beginning of your safari, and we thank you for your understanding.
Best regards,
Guest Relations Team.

Exceptional!
My wife and I (from Northampton Uk) travelled at the end of August 2025, and began planning the trip some months earlier.
All the communications with Explorers Wild Adventures were by WhatsApp and very easy. Johann Mwale answered all our questions and guided us through the process. We chose to upgrade to a Toyota Landcruiser instead of a safari van, and elected to have it to ourselves, (I would have driven anyone else mad what with wanting to stop and watch / photograph all sorts of things...).
We had 6 nights, 7 days at - Amboseli, Lake Nakuru, and the Mara.
We were picked up bang on time at our accommodation in the Karen district of Nairobi on the morning of the start of our safari, and we had first to pop into Nairobi to pay the balance of our safari – we paid this by cash in US dollars having had already paid a deposit by transfer earlier.
Our driver / guide George, was great. As well as spotting wildlife, and getting info from other drivers through the radio, he was also a mad keen football fan which gave my wife and him a lot to talk about when the wildlife spotting was done for the day! Sadly though, he is a Manchester United fan...
We opted to stay in the middle range of properties, the Sentrim lodges. The tents / rooms were great, and there was lots of food at each meal. On occasions when we were travelling between lodges, or just out for the whole day, we had a packed lunch which was more than adequate.
A measure of how well organised Explorers Wild is, was evident when our vehicle hit a nasty pothole on the road to the Mara, and needed some minor repairs. George took very quick and very good action to avoid any further clashes with oncoming traffic. I also bumped my head and needed a little treatment at a little Masai clinic, which was great, and the local folks helped enormously.
Explorers Wild Adventures whirred into action and quickly found another vehicle to take us onwards, and for our next safari, and they also found a great new guide and a driver for the day, whilst George stayed with our vehicle and organised repairs.
A truly impressive response! George was back with us a day later with the newly repaired Landcruiser.
Thanks to Explorers Wild Adventures, and to Johann and George for such a great time, and also for their superb, and speedy action in getting everything back on track when our vehicle was temporarily out of action.

Just Waou !
We planed our trip to Kenya in March. The communication was fluid, very responsive. Johann Mwale, the sales team leader answered all the questions i could have. Just perfect.
Our guide, Zachary Omondi was amazing. From early in the morning to very late in the afternoon (most of the time, at night !!), he was fully involved, dedicated to our goal...Watch a maximum of animals and enjoying the incredible landscape. He totally deserved his nickname "Zachary MAGIC EYES"...after only 5 days, we feel like he was part of the family :-)
It was a real tear to get back to the airport.

The entire experience was handled professionally with our enjoyment in mind.
There appear to be a great many similar tour operators in the area but we could see that EWA was a cut above the others. From office operations and reservations to the highly competent and informative tour guide, we have nothing but praise for this operation. We did a 5 day/6night tour and if we were to do it again, we would opt for more days in fewer localities in order to avoid long drives, but this is a matter of personal preference.

They genuinely wanted us to have an amazing safari experience!
If you are looking to book a safari tour in Kenya, I highly recommend Explorers Wild Adventures. There are so many things to love about them. First, it was really easy to communicate with them. Their website includes an email address and an option to contact them via Whatsapp number. I started communicating with them via email but as I started to have more questions, I switched to Whatsapp so that we would have longer and more real-time chat conversations.
They were also pretty flexible with our itinerary, making adjustments either at our request or for our benefit. We often stayed out on our game drives longer than planned, sometimes even up to an hour later, which maximized our safari experience and allowed us to see more animals. Staying out later than planned allowed us to see the rare striped hyena in Samburu! Maximizing our game drives also allowed us to see the Big Five!
They also helped my family get our electronic Travel Authorisations (eTA) to Kenya quickly. I made the mistake of applying for our eTAs very late and I was worried we wouldn't get it on time. Johann, my contact from Explorers Wild Adventures asked for our reference numbers so that he could try and do something about it. Very soon after I did, I started receiving eTA approval notifications in my email.
Finally, I have to give massive props to, and thank, our guide and driver Zachary who was truly awesome. I was continually in awe at how he managed to spot animals that were camouflaged in the trees or behind tall grass or bushes while he was driving. I also have no idea how he knew how to find his way around the game reserves, driving along unmarked and winding paths in search of wildlife without the benefit of GPS and never getting lost. He knew a lot about the animals we saw and he would tell us their names and share information about them. I also felt that he genuinely wanted us to have a great safari adventure and see as many animals as we could.
It was really easy dealing with Explorers Wild Adventures and their packages are more affordable compared to most of the other ones I saw. They really made sure we had an incredible adventure. If you are looking to book a safari tour in Kenya, I highly recommend them!

Perfectly Organized Safari with Outstanding Team
We just got back from a 7-day safari with Explorers and the experience has been nothing short of fascinating. From start to finish, everything was meticulously arranged and the itinerary allowed us to explore the best of Kenya’s breathtaking wildlife. Every day brought new highlights, from sunrise game drives in the Masai Mara to the serene beauty of Lake Nakuru, Lake Naivasha and the majestic views of Mount Kilimanjaro in Amboseli.
Communication with Johann was top-notch. He was incredibly responsive, reliable and informative throughout the entire planning process and even during the trip. Whether it was answering our many questions or adjusting small details along the way, Johann was always available and willing to help. You can tell he is highly experienced and genuinely passionate about ensuring we have the best safari experience possible.
The selection of lodges was absolutely perfect, each one offering unique charm, comfort and excellent service. From tented camps in the heart of the wild to lodges with stunning views and amazing meals, the accommodations exceeded our expectations.
Our driver guide, Henry, was outstanding. His knowledge of the parks, animals and local culture enriched every drive. His calm and confident driving, especially through some challenging terrain, made us feel safe and comfortable at all times. Henry was always patient, enthusiastic and seemed to have a sixth sense for finding wildlife, we spotted the Big Five and so much more all thanks to him.
This was a once in a lifetime trip and we’re incredibly grateful to Explorers Wild for making it so memorable.

Amazing and Unforgettable Safari Trip from an Equally Amazing Company and Tour Guide
David was an outstanding safari guide who made our trip unforgettable. From the moment we set off, he showed his expertise and dedication to ensuring we had the best possible experience.
David constantly listened to the radio to track animal sightings and wasted no time getting us to where the action was. Thanks to him, we saw a leopard up close and spent time with a group of lions. His ability to position the truck perfectly for photos and predict where the animals would move gave us amazing close-up shots we’ll treasure forever.
His deep knowledge of wildlife made the safari even better—he answered all our questions thoroughly, sharing fascinating insights about the animals. This was a huge contrast to another guide we’d had from a different company, who barely shared any information. David’s professionalism and willingness to stop whenever we wanted added to his incredible service. On the way back, he even took time to show us parts of Nairobi, which was such a thoughtful touch.
The company, Explorers Wild Adventure, was equally amazing. Johann was quick to reply to our emails and texts, answered all our questions, and reassured us every step of the way. We didn’t know what to expect, but they exceeded all our expectations. Communication was excellent throughout, they picked us up on time, provided water, and even recommended we upgrade from a minivan to a 4x4 Land Cruiser. That upgrade made a huge difference—it was a much smoother ride and allowed us to visit places a minivan couldn’t go.
We also made a last-minute change to our plans, adding a hot air balloon ride at Amboseli National Park. The company was incredibly accommodating and made it happen without any hassle. Johann, in particular, was very helpful, answering all our emails and texts promptly. Explorers Wild Adventure is responsible, trustworthy, and committed to providing the best experience possible.
If you’re planning a safari, don’t hesitate to book with Explorers Wild Adventure and request David as your guide. You’ll be so glad you did—they turned our once-in-a-lifetime trip into something truly spectacular!

Awesome Safari Trip from planning to the very end
I had contacted many safari companies for our 10 days private Kenya Safari Trip and finally chose Explorers Wild Adventures based on their quick response, good price and very good reviews from the past customers. Johann answered all my questions honestly and gave clear instructions about money transfer from US. We upgraded to 4x4 and it was very comfortable even during long rides. We chose mid range hotels. They were mostly Sentrim chain hotels and were all pretty good. Our driver/guide David showed up on time to pick us up at our Nairobi AirBnB. He was punctual every day, clearly communicated every day program, had a great positive attitude and was eager to share his knowledge about animals and Kenya. We learnt so much about animal behavior, Kenyan politics and culture from him. Of the 2 optional tours that we did, Masai village tour was good but the lake Naivasha boat ride and nature walk was too expensive at $60 pp. We could have totally skipped it as we saw multiple hippos, giraffes, zebras in very close range with in our hotel (Lake Naivasha Country Club) that night.
Over all I highly recommend Explorers Wild Adventures. They are professional, work well together, did not mess up any reservations and really strive to earn and keep your business. You will be very pleased if you book with them.

The safari experience was absolutely unforgettable, with incredible wildlife sightings and experts.
Our safari experience was nothing short of extraordinary, and a huge part of that was thanks to our amazing guide, Zachary. From the moment we met him, his passion for wildlife and deep knowledge of the ecosystem were evident. He took the time to explain the behavior of the animals, the different ecosystems, and the fascinating details that we would have otherwise missed. Zachary had an incredible ability to spot wildlife from miles away, making sure we had the best views of lions, elephants, giraffes, and countless other animals. One of the most unforgettable moments was when we witnessed a hunting leopard in action – a rare and breathtaking sight that we never imagined we’d be lucky enough to see. Zachary’s expert guidance allowed us to fully appreciate the incredible skill and strategy of the leopard in its natural habitat. He was not only informative but also patient and attentive, ensuring we had plenty of time to take in each moment and capture the perfect photos. His enthusiasm was contagious, and he made the whole experience feel personal and special. Thanks to Zachary, this safari was a once-in-a-lifetime adventure that we’ll never forget!

Fantastic service and an unforgettable experience
My fiance and I had a great experience with the tour company. We read through hundreds of options, and given how expensive safaris can be and how variable our friends' experiences had been, we were worried the trip might not be worth the money. I can say that the trip absolutely was worth it! The 6-day tour was a great option, as we had time in four of Kenya's most important parks (Masai Mara, Lake Nakuru, Lake Naivasha, Amboseli). We did a private tour, which we highly recommend given that you will always want to stand up and move around the car as you follow the wildlife around, and then you can move at your own pace. If you only had time for one, Masai Mara is the one to do. We opted for the van, which was cheaper, and never had one issue (this may have been different if it were very rainy). We did all the add-on tours (apart from the far too expensive hot-air balloon), and all of them only made the experience more memorable (the boat tour was also a bit too pricey in our opinion, but it gives you access to the Lake Naivasha Nature Walk, which was beautiful and lets you get right up next to the animals with experienced naturalists who work there). The tour company was very communicative and helpful. Our guide/driver (Bernard) was absolutely fantastic, we cannot speak highly enough of him. He was positive, knowledgable, punctual and worked hard to make sure we saw as many animals as possible. Service, accommodations and food at the hotels we stayed at was exceptional, especially given that you are often in extremely remote parts of the country (remember to get your hands on small bills of Kenyan shillings! It wasn't too bad, but the hotel workers were a bit intense about trying to get tips, and we didn't have the cash for it at first).
It is hard to comprehend just how many animals there were just there right in front of us, living in their natural habitat. We saw dozens of species up close (elephants, giraffes, birds, lions, hippos, cheetahs, rhinos and more). Having an attentive, communicative guide/driver who is talking with the other drivers about where everything is in the park is important as these parks are huge. Given that it is nature, it's impossible to guarantee seeing everything, but at least in January of 2025, we saw just about all there was to see.
