Good and willing to tailor your trip to Kenya to suite your individual requirements
John our guide was brilliant. He did everything possible to make our Safari a memory never to be forgotten. He was friendly and knowledgeable about all the different animals we encountered in the safari parks. The balloons trip should not be missed on any account!. Our ten day safari trip went by very fast. Time flies when you are having a good time.To sun up it was an amazing experience and money well spent.

Well organised with brilliant, knowledgeable and friendly guide
We landed in Nairobi after 2am and our guide, John, was waiting there with a smile, despite significant delays in our arrival time. He greeted us with a friendliness that he kept going for the duration of our ten day trip. Tim was our contact point for bookings and he kept in touch with my husband via WhatsApp in the lead-up to our trip, ensuring we had the correct vaccinations and that our trip was tailored to our needs.
The trip itself was incredible. We visited five national parks and saw every animal we wanted to see. The road trips between each park were long but suitably broken up with washroom stops, coffee, etc, so we never felt exhausted by our travel, thanks to our knowledgeable and helpful guide.
Each park was extremely special in its own way and thanks to Makiwa Kenya Safaris, we had what we perceived to be the best guide in the park. John ensured we got front row seats to everything that was going on and, if we wanted to see a specific animal, we could guarantee we'd see it with John.
Lions? John will find them. Cheetah with cubs? John already knows where they'll be. Entire pack of hyenas? John knows where they like to hang out. He even found us in the middle of the Masai Mara when we went our separate ways for a balloon ride. He could identify every bird and see through any animal's camouflage. He could manoeuvre any terrain to get us to the best viewing spots.
Makiwa Kenya Safaris took care of absolutely everything, from accommodation to extra activities such as a balloon ride over Masai Mara, which was amazing. They organised a boat ride on Lake Naivasha and trips to visit the Samburu and Masai tribes.
We arrived in Kenya, tired and cranky, thanks to major delays in Dublin airport. We left Kenya with amazing memories thanks to John, who ensured we missed out on absolutely nothing during our ten days in Africa.
Thanks to John, Tim and the whole team for such an amazing experience. We will definitely be back.

Why Are Makiwa Kenya Safaris The Best Choice?
All I can say is wow wow wow.
Stop your search Makiwa Kenya Safaris are the ones to book with.
From the first communication with Tim, the booking process, custom itinerary, our guide John (more on him in a moment), the 4WD van, the animals, accommodation, the price, experiences, memories and everything in between, it has all been incredible and has given us memories we will cherish for the rest of our lives.
Tim the owner is absolutely incredible. From the first contact, to the ongoing communication, reassurance and answering my constant questions (I like to know as much as possible about any trips we book) he was always friendly, and quick to answer and be all around helpful.
John was our guide for the 10 day safari. We were picked up at the airport in Nairobi. We stayed in a local and super friendly AirBnB and then visited Samburu, Lake Nakuru, Masai Mara, Lake Naivasha and Amboseli. John made an incredible trip ever more memorable.
Always cheerful and excited to see us but more than that he has to be one of the best in the business. His knowledge of the areas, the animals, the parks and his ability to make sure you get the best views possible made our trip quite possibly one of my most favourite yet.
Our vehicle was a 4WD van with a popup roof and it was perfect. Roomy, comfortable with 360views at all times. It also equalled if not bettered the LandCruiser type jeeps and whereas we seen them get stuck multiple times John flew through and navigated any seemingly tough terrain with a smile on his face.
I can whole-heartily recommend Makiwa Kenya Safaris and if you’ve decided to do a Safari in Kenya, stop your search right now and see if Tim and Makiwa have availability - you will not be disappointed.
I’m already planning our return.
Oh and if you can upgrade your trip to include the Balloon Ride in Masai Mara, and the boat ride and walk amongst the animals in lake Naivasha.
It’ll be one of the best decisions you ever make.
Best travels.

first time traveling
This was the trip of a lifetime and it owe it to this company. I did a solo trip- 7 day safari in Kenya. I did my first day touring the city of Nairobi with Timothy. We went to the Elephant Orphanage and Giraffe Sanctuary. Then off to my safari with peter which entailed a couple of days in Samburu, A day in Lake Nakuru, a day in Sweetwater seeing the park and chimpanzee rescue center, , and then onto the Masai Mara for a couple days. All accommodations were 3 star of higher and I liked each place I stayed at. The food was great at each lodge/camp as well. Safari van was perfect for viewing and always keep clean each day for perfect viewing and peter made sure I saw every single animal I wanted to see and knew exactly how to make that happen. He was always prompt each morning when we would meet before we headed out on safari for the day. He was very knowledgeable about all the animals and polite the entire trip. If I return for a safari ever in Kenya then I would definitely request him to be my safari guide again. The road trip between each park was about a 5 hr drive each time and I actually liked that because it gave me an opportunity to really see the country of Kenya and how all the different villages live. If I had questions along the way about the different tribes peter had an answer and I liked that too. Covid testing before my departure was super easy as well at the last lodge I stayed at for my stay the covid testing company had someone come to my lodge to take my sample and within 1 day had my test results emailed to me and the lodge printed it out for me so I could have it for my flight departure.
I loved seeing the Big 5 and the entire experience of the safari but I have to say the part of my trip that has stuck with me and really made it a life changing trip was my visit to the milele Education Center in one of the slums in Nairobi to visit the children of the school. It was my last day on the trip before I got dropped off at the airport. My flight didn’t leave until midnight that night so in the morning peter and I left the Mara park early, did a little bit of looking for animals on our way out of the park then drove to the school for the afternoon to see the children. Timothy set this all up for me and I’m so grateful he was able to do it for me. Peter helped me buy a bunch of food for the 120 kids we were visiting and I got to spend 3 hrs with them before peter dropped me off at the airport.
I would highly recommend makiwa Kenya safaris to anyone looking to go on safari. From day one when I inquired Vanessa was super helpful in answering all my questions and setting my itinerary up. Great customer service on his part, from Timothy and from peter. Thank you, makiwa kenya safaris for the trip of a lifetime!

Worthwhile Trip
We travelled as a family of four to the most amazing places that exist on planet Earth. It is humbling to see that there are still parts on this planet that follow the ancient ritual of life and Africa is one of those. It has been a truly humbling experience.
The entire time period from the time of the booking to the pick up, logistics of driving over vast distances on a tight schedule was smooth and went without any major hiccups. The accomodation provided was also unique and comfortable and food good. The tented acccomodation provided in the Illkeliani camp at the Masai mara was remarkable and qualified more as a luxury tent. Hearing hyenas in the night (in the distance) never let us forget though that man always remains an intruder in the animal world.
Highly recommend the group and we look forward to future bookings with them .
A special word for our driver and guide felix who made this trip all the more interesting for us all !
