17th Safari with Somak. Great company & staff, great locations, well organised & extremely reliable.
The service provided by Somak is 1st class. From my first contact to plan holidays, I know I will get expert advice to plan my holiday. Personally, I ask for Nishma who has arranged many of my safaris in Kenya & Tanzania. Safaris can be chosen from excellent, informative brochures or tailor made to clients preferences. The range of destinations & accommodation offered is superb with good images & descriptions. All information is also available on the excellent Somak website.
We always know that we can rely on Somak to collect us on arrival & make us feel welcome. Vehicles are good, comfortable & well maintained. All game drives are well organised & drivers are excellent & knowledgeable of all species encountered. All reserves are different & descriptions are accurate & informative.
I would recommend Somak to anyone considering a safari - you will not be disappointed.
Safari and beach - fantastic!
My family and took a Somak holiday to Tanzania (Tent with a View) and Zanzibar (Ocean Paradise). The service was excellent - helpful advice before leaving, trouble-free travel arrangements and really great hotels. I had not heard of Somak before, but will definitely use them again and am happy to recommend them.

Travelling with you for over 25 years
I am a professional photographer and I have traveled annually to Kenya with Somak for over 25 years. Have a look at Images of Africa at www.lenzman.com There is no comparison, an excellent service from both the UK based team and all the staff in Kenya. I would not travel with anyone else. A special thanks should be awarded to Ms Barbara Lowe in the UK for her expertise and outstanding help over many years.

FANTASTIC
Booked via Secret Escapes and then Somak took over. From the time they did, I emailed almost daily to get more details about the trip (first time in Africa :-)) and I got prompt, polite and helpful answers.
The Masai Mara camp was just perfect with our driver Francis and a lovely lady Elizabeth taking us around every day. The hot air balloon was a unique experience. Everyone was just perfect. On our way to Zanzibar we stopped at the Somak lounge in Nairobi were we were warmly greated, it was clean and very comfortable. We met a manager there based in London called Justin Coles and he was also very nice and gave a lot of good information about our trip, safaris and Africa over all.
Zanzibar was the second part of our trip. There is nothing to say apart that it was perfect. The resort was lovely and the rooms and all areas of the place were spotless. Our driver Suleman was also very nice and very knowledgable. Our guide was also very nice. What else to say: it was a perfect birthday treat and I will come back with my two daughters when they are old enough and I will use SOMAK!
Thank you thank you thank you I will never forget my 40th birthday xxxxx

Magical Mara Memories
Somak delivered on everything they said would happen. Not having used Somak before we were naturally nervous about all the arrangements that were made for our trip.
Worry not. Not only did everything run like clockwork but from the advice given from the outse t and the warm welcome we received from everyone along the way I would certainly be re commending them to family and friends.
Our tour guide on Safari (Kerore) was fantastic and knowing that we were hungry to see the big 5 he spent many hours with us to make sure our dream was fulfilled.
The camp itself (Ashnil Mara) was the perfect setting and the staff who run it are amongst some of the nicest people I have ever come across. They even arranged a special Masai song and dance on the evening of our 25th wedding anniversary - a magical memory.
We shall be back to both Somak and the wonderful world of Safari!

Fantastic Service
We had the best service from all the staff at Somak. We were given really good advice to help us choose an itinerary to suit our needs. The staff in Narobi were all really helpful, our transfers were very efficient. We did a fly safari so didn't use their guides. On our last day we spent time at the head office, where they gave us a lovely lunch and we had time to relax, sleep, catch up on emails etc. we then had a nice shower so we were refreshed before our transfer to the airport. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to anyone wishing to go on a holiday of a lifetime.

Simple and efficient!
From beginning to end the whole experience was one of smooth and easy efficiency added to a high quality of product. The safari was excellent with special praise for Charles the driver/spotter/guide.The hotels on safari were superb in ambience and quality.Zanzibar was fascinating helped by Somaks agents who supplied knowledgeable guides. The hotels on Zanzibar deserve special mention,The Serena in Stone Town beautifully appointed positioned and run and the Z Hotel in Nungwi also beautifully appointed and positioned with excellent staff who are a credit to the general manager ,Julie who has efficiency and hospitality down to a T.Our highest praise is that we would happily do the same tour next year with 1 amendment,we would go for longer!

An interesting and well-organised package, with one major flaw in our arrival transfer arrangements
On the whole a fascinating insight into a country new to us. Generally well thought out and well packaged, with some excellent interactions with African staff. Knowledgeable and amenable safari guide. Transfer arrangements to the isolated Sadaani National Park need review and amendment. Accommodation location, facilities and food were excellent both in Sadaani and on Zanzibar.

Knowledgable, friendly staff in uk
Staff were helpful and had travelled to Kenya so could answer questions and advise and were always good on email as I booked my trip at work. After making our payment we heard nothing more from Somak which was not a nice feeling especially as they a local UK Company it was almost as though we might change our mind if we spoke again!!! On arriving in Kenya we loved every minute
We stayed four nights at the Ashnil Mara Lodge and enjoyed every one of them. The whole experience from arriving and being driven from the airstrip to waking up in a four poster bed with a still warm hot water bottle at 6:30am for the game drive. We imagined it would be riding in terms of Somak churning people in and out of the camps however during the time we stayed we were relaxed and felt like the only ones there despit it being full for dinner one night.
Our guide/driver Edward who works for the lodge was very knowledgable of the area so made light work of the vast Mara when driving through the rivers to cross into Rhino or Cheetah territory. We saw 7 giraffe who lived just outside the gates of the camp and saw them in the mornings and evening on their way back home brilliant memories. 52 lions on the last count, a kill and many many young animals
Masai Mara is wonderful. The landscapes, the river and the wildlife. You definitely have to enjoy all these to visit and if you are lucky enough you will see wildlife as it should be. You feel bad being there wishing you could see it without intruding on their territory, seeing the animals behave naturally is amazing.
Lions fighting over territory, mating and hunting. Elephants are huge and yet graceful. There were so many babies we saw and it made us happy to know there is continuity in the great Masai Mara. We saw Zebra, Hyena, Ostrich, Giraffe and Warthogs and birds. It is a wonderful wonderful place
The food was excellent, fresh and tasty every time, with salads and veg options not repeated in the time we stayed. Authentic Kenyan food with spice just what you expect and need after the early starts
All the staff were very helpful and friendly and always interested in your day and had lots of stories to share with other guests
The tents are very spacious and the bathrooms clean and modern and still a tent!! Terrace in room 30 was great as we could see the river and baboons but not the Hippo, the best place to see these would be at reception although you can hear them all night and day, such a wonderful experience
Would have been 5 stars however they charge for wi-fi which is only on a few hours in the day and is very poor in signal. If you are going to offer a service and charge for it at least make sure it works as it should, having said this we would definitely go back as safari is not about the internet connection
Everything we had hoped it would be - we could not have asked for more!
The whole holiday, from booking to travel, transfers, accommodation and guide was perfect. This was our first safari and it more than lived up to our expectations. Sadaani was idyllic and the safari guide and camp staff were knowledgable, generous and very welcoming.
