Lucky Solo Safari of Kenya and Tanzania with Zanzibar trip
5/5

This was my first trip to Africa and my first solo trip out of the US so I relied heavily on help from everyone at KWSS and they reply at a moments notice. By luck I ended up on my own private safari with Anthony in Kenya and Marcus in Tanzania (this was the low season). I cannot stress how much you need to rely on the guides. They know the area, the animals and how long it takes to travel from place to place. They will optimize your time and what desires you have and not overburden your trip. The photo shooting is far more of an adrenaline rush then I ever expected. Your experience is what you make of it. Anthony and I were about the same age so we really hit it off outside the safari as well talking about life and dating and comparing our countries to find we had a lot in common. Marcus's ecology degree really shined through with his knowledge of the animals adding a great deal to the experience. I did see all of the big 5 including rhino in both countries which is extremely rare. Dhow Inn was rather dream like in Zanzibar, very very good for couples. I will be back to Africa for another trip with this group.

Spectacular
5/5

If you are reading this, you are likely surveying dozens of tour options in East Africa, which can be overwhelming. I found Kenya Walking Survivors through a third party web site that described various tour itineraries in detail. From the time I arrived at Nairobi airport mine was a seamless experience. On Day 1 I recuperated from my 33 hour trip from the U.S. at Eka Hotel, which was clean, quiet, secure and featured excellent food (particularly the breakfast buffet). On Day 2 I was picked up in the early morning and set out on safari at the Masaai Mara Reserve. I was very fortunate to be paired with Marcus as my safari guide. He has a whimsical, laid back personality. He is also professional and highly sensitive to customer needs. I had extreme good fortune over the next 2 days in terms of wildlife observed. Among many amazing creatures we witnessed to separate lion prides that walked within a few feet of our vehicle. The service was impeccable at Osero Lodge during the 2 nights I stayed there. Their food was decent. The Sopa Lodge at lake Navaisha is completely enchanting. If you have any appreciation for nature, animals, photography or pure aesthetics then go there. I would have loved an extra day at Sopa Lodge to take in the animals (which roam freely there) and the surroundings. Kibo Safari camp was magical. I would have loved to spend an additional day here also. Amboseli National Park was not as impressive at the Masaii Mara Reserve, though I did get some good wildlife spectating there. For me, the Kibo Camp was a perfect spot to slow down, have a swim and meditate on my general gratitude for this incredible experience. I spent 3.5 days on Paje Beach in Zanzibar and would have loved to spend 2 additional. The Dhow Inn is a European boutique resort with everything one needs to completely relax and unwind. Meals that are not included within the tour can be charged to one's room tab and the food was good. They have self service laundry, which I desperately needed following multiple days of safari. There are a barrage of activities for one to participate in, though I elected to spend my days in the water and under the shaded umbrellas of the Dhow private beach. I knew and accepted that venturing to Africa would not be inexpensive, but this excursion was affordable for me. The pricing was completely reasonable given it's incredible value (including meals, a private driver from morning to dusk, round trip airfare to Zanzibar and very desirable lodging). I love to travel and am quite savvy in my trip choices. I highly recommend this company for your East African adventures. Thank you, Mr. Otieno and your wonderful staff!

Amazing!
5/5

The safari was amazing! The three day trip trough West Tsavo and Amboseli provided diversity, and three days was sufficient. The lineup was good. I would not change anything about the trip we took.

Great and extensive tour, KWSS is a great outfit
5/5

We had a wonderful time in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania all with KWSS. Mr. OT is a lovely Man and goes the distance to please his customers. We drove over 4000 km with the company tour guides and saw a lot and they all wanted us to have a great time.

We received all that was promised and for the most part were please with everything. Some of the hotels I would not return to but there were also some that were just amazing.

We did get an auto breakdown in Uganda but it was fixed and we did get to our destination albeit late and had to be up the next day for 5:00 am to drive another 2 hours to see the gorillas up close and personal.

We saw a plethora of flora and fauna and loved every minute of seeing the animals in their own environment.

One does have to understand that you are holidaying in Africa and that the standards are different from other countries and that you will encounter issues that you would not in other countries such as broken items in hotel rooms etc.

All in all, we had a marvelous time. We paid KWSS ahead of time and there were no issues whatsoever in terms of payments.

My family are vegetarian and for the most part our dietary concerns were met and we ate some solid meals and some that weren't that good but we survived and nobody got sick.

I can recommend our guides Anthony, David, Michael. Our guide in Uganda was Edward or Eddie, we found him a bit odd but was never late and very informative. Eddie got stuck with the brakes of the vehicle. We were delayed about 3-4 hours for a garage to change the master cylinder. Having a good knowledge of mechanics I knew and told him that they brakes needed to be bled to remove the air lock. I did tell Eddie but he said "it was done" when it hadn't so we were stuck going a painful pace down steep mountain passes because our brakes were questionable. The brakes were fixed the next morning by bleeding them.

All in all I can really recommend KWSS they are all good people.

Some of the hotels that I would not go to again are: The Elegant Hotel, Bungoma (kids screaming and slamming doors the whole night)
Bunyonyioverland (mattress awful, sheets awful, no shower curtain and electrical current going through the shower and shocked me), Hotel Paradise in Jinja I would also upgrade since it wasn't awful it was a way out of town, The Charity Hotel in Arusha is OK but I would again upgrade it since it is far from the town but OK and a bit old and in disrepair

Silver Springs in Kampala was amazing, great food and great accomodations
Kibos Safari Camp Amboseli was a great place for New Years (Absolute best place)
Kingfisher lodge was great but bathrooms downstairs not great for us older than 50's people
Kibale Forest Camp (no complaints)

Amazing Safari Company
5/5

We decided to make small group tour for 8 days with KWSS, and we were initially a bit hesitant because of the low price of the tour. When we saw the good reviews, we made our decision and we never regretted a single moment. Our guide was Paul and he has extensive knowledge about the parks and he was working hard to make us happy during the whole holiday. The food our chef Jacob prepared for us was really delicious. We met other travellers during the holiday and looking at the prices of other companies, it is hard to see how KWSS gave such a great service with a very reasonable price. I even checked this overland bus trucks, and even this gigantic buses where you share the costs with dozens of people is even much more expensive than KWSS. We might come back again in future and will definitely work with KWSS again. It is a very nice company with nice people. As a friendly reminder, please do not forget to tip the guide and chef at the end of the tour because they really work hard to make your holiday a special one ;)

Amazing Safari
5/5

We just came back from our first safari in Africa and it was above our expectations. We took 12 days safari in Kenya with KWSS and we had a really unforgettable trip. Mr.Otieno was very professional and prompt in replying all our questions and provided us with a customized itinerary.
We visited Tsavo East, Tsavo West, Amboseli, Lake Naivasha, Lake Nakuru, Lake Bogoria and Maasai Mara. Each place was attractive and beautiful in a different way, we enjoyed all of them. I would only skip Lake Bogoria, because due to long distances and roads condition it sometimes took longer to travel between the parks than assumed in the itinerary.
Every day we had a very good accommodation (the lodge at Lake Nakuru where we spent the New Year's Eve was a highlight) and an excellent food.
Special thanks to our guide Ken. He is a very experienced driver and has an amazing eye for spotting all the animals at such a distance. He did the best to show us the wildlife as much as possible and patiently stopped each time when we wanted to take a photo. Ken took really good care of us and we felt very safe all the time.
We had a wonderful time, saw amazing wildlife and we will definitely go with Kenya Walking Survivors Safaris again. Asante sana!

Amazing service, educated staff and top notch experience!
5/5

Me.Otieno was excellent at communicating and let us costumize our safari. The price was very reasonsable (which made me nervous if the company was legit) but everything was fantastic, our guide Paul went above and beyond for us and the accommodation was beyond what we thought we would be getting for the price we paid. I don’t have enough good things to say! If you’re looking for a reasonable safari with all the perks of a luxury safari KWSS is right for you!

A once in a lifetime experience... provided by Kenya Walking Survivors Safaris Ltd
5/5

Everything about this company is about providing clients a unique experience to showcase all that Kenya has to offer. Booking the trip was simple, questions were answered in a timely manner and overall my experience was first class all the way.
Each place that we stayed at offered amazing care and customer service. All staff focused on making our trip enjoyable, but more important we felt as if this was very much a customised and personalised experience.
Our guide was amazing. He took time to show us unique aspects of Kenya, including people, places and animals as we travelled from Nairobi through to the Masai Mara and answered questions as we experienced this journey.
I can't thank Kenya Walking Survivors Safaris Ltd enough for providing me the trip of a life time. I sincerely appreciate each of you involved and hope one day our paths cross again...thank you once again for EVERYTHING!!!
