Absolutely amazing experience in Tanzania with Roko
5/5

We just spent one month touring South and East Africa and spent a lot of time researching this adventure beforehand. We prefer dealing with small and locally owned companies when possible. We are very fortunate to have chosen Roko Safaris for our Tanzania leg of the trip. First of all, trip planning and communication with both Roko and Miranda was very easy . Our many questions and emails were handled promptly and courteously. This trip was carefully designed around our wishes. Secondly, Roko is a local who grew up in the Masaai community. His insights into local customs and culture added a very special and unique aspect to a safari that is hard, if not impossible, to replicate. This was especially important to us as we were traveling with our 14 year old grandson and we wanted him to have a real and genuine cultural experience. This was far more than just a game viewing safari only and that was a desired outcome for us.

We could not be any more pleased with our time with Roko Safaris. The last thing to mention is that Roko's ability to spot game while on a game drive is remarkeable. We were able to watch and observe animals that other safari vehicles drove past without noticing. I liked the fact that he was not using the radio to go to the game that others had found. It made for a more genuine and relaxed safari experience. I strongly recommend Roko Safaris if you considering a visit to Tanzania. This safari far exceeded our expectations!

Very friendly Maasai guide with a keen eye for wildlife. Highly recommended.
5/5

We had a wonderful two weeks. We were able to indicate in advance what we wanted to see, after which we received a complete proposal for the trip. It started in Arusha and Tarangiri National Park, followed by the Serengeti, Lake Natron, and the Ngorongoro Crater. The stays at the various lodges were fine, the overnight stay in the Serengeti was amazing, and the days at the remote Lake Natron in Lake Natron Maasai Guest House were unforgettable, with a view of Ol Doinyo Lengai, “the Mountain of God”. We had the opportunity to experience Maasai culture there, which was very special. During the two weeks, we were completely taken care of and relieved of any worries. We saw a lot of wildlife: giraffes, elephants, zebras, gazelles, buffaloes, lions, hartebeests, hyenas, hippos, waterbucks, and rhinos. Thanks to the keen eyes of Roco the guide, we also spotted a serval, families of yellow-spotted rock hyraxes, and chameleons. It was a wonderful adventure.

A safari the way it should be with Roko Safaris
5/5

Tanzania is already special. But Roko Safaris makes it unforgettable.

Our trip was tailor-made from start to finish — no standard programme, but a route built entirely around our wishes. Having the same guide and driver throughout meant we saw more, felt safe on both rugged terrain and busy roads, and built trust along the way.

The preparation was excellent: great tips in advance, wonderful local accommodations and everything perfectly arranged. We didn’t have to worry about a thing.

And most importantly: Roko Safaris doesn’t line up ten cars around one lion. They choose calm and respect for nature — and that’s exactly why we experienced moments we will never forget.

A recommendation? From us, absolutely. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Roko safaris really goes 'the extra mile'!
5/5

As a family of 8 Roko, our two drivers, Jackson and Ole and our cook Mohammed, took good care of us during two weeks!
While we were planning the trip the communication was excellent. Roko and Miranda were flexible before and throughout the trip and adjusted plans when needed. Our journey offered a great mix between safari and hiking. Hiking in Tanzania was what really made this trip different from the usual trips to Tanzania. Our hike from Ngorongoro to Lake Natron was amazing. We also went to the Usambara Mountains. This area is beautiful, combining nature and walking through local villages and not very touristy.
Our accomodations including the campsites were (very) basic but fine. The tents were good and waterproof!

Our trip Tanzania is unforgettable, the land, the wildlife, the hikes, the people.
We are really happy we had a chance to see a little bit of the real Tanzania with Roko Safaris.

Truely going the extra Mile!
5/5

We had a wonderful experience with Roko and the rest of his team. One of the main highlights for me was getting to experience the real Tanzania. We visited local markets, saw the village where Roko grew up, and stopped at places where people were preparing BBQ, selling sheep and cows, and milling maize. Moments like these gave us a glimpse into everyday life and made the trip feel very authentic.

That said, the safari itself was also excellent. Roko and Essau (our driver) were great guides—very knowledgeable, good company, and always happy to answer questions. Roko has a amazing eyeside, so he spots the animals way before we even knew they where there. Thanks to him we were able to see all of the Big Five, as well as many other animals. Along the way they shared a lot of interesting information about the animals, the landscape, and the ecosystems, which made the experience even more rewarding.

I believe booking with Roko Safaris gives you a very authentic safari experience. Miranda and Roko tailor the trip to your interests and what you would like to get out of it. If your focus is on seeing the Big Five, that works perfectly. If you are interested in learning more about Maasai culture or visiting local communities, that can also be arranged. They are very flexible and happy to adapt the itinerary.

For me it was a once-in-a-lifetime trip, so many thanks to Roko, Miranda, Essau, and the rest of the team.

Fantastic authentic private safaris with expert guiding, personal care and true Maasai hospitality.
5/5

The four of us booked a 9-day private budgettour with Roko Safaris. They created a fantastic program tailored to our wishes. We wanted to start from Arusha and visit the non-touristic Lake Natron, where Roko and Miranda have their Maasai guesthouse in Engare Sero. From there, we spent 3 amazing days doing wonderful activities: Little Serengeti, seeing the flamingos at Lake Natron, and visiting the waterfall.

Roko is a Maasai man and is proud of his village, which is still very authentic. Definitely worth a visit.

After that, we spent two days in the Serengeti and one day in the Ngorongoro Crater. Roko is an excellent guide. He knows the areas very well and has incredibly sharp eyesight. He always goes for the absolute best wildlife sightings. He really wants you to get almost face to face with the animals — of course from inside the car! Absolutely fantastic.

In Mto wa Mbu, we did a beautiful bike ride through banana plantations and rice fields. We ended the 9-day trip with a day hike on amazing Mount Kilimanjaro and a visit to Moshi.

Owners Roko and Miranda have the motto "we go the extra mile," and in our opinion, they more than live up to that! Everything is possible, and they are very attentive with personal care.

Great organisation, nice and very friendly company
5/5

Miranda picked us up at arusha airport, the guesthouse, she organised was great. Our driver Öle knew a lot. He is a Maasai, so we learned many new facts about this tribe. Olduvai-gorge was great, the rest of the safari as well. Food was excellent. Roko is a smart and great guy, Maasai. Miranda is from NL. So you have both in one company: African vibes and a European spirit as well 😉
Thanks for everything Kerstin &Rolf

Wonderful hiking tour in a unique part of Tanzania
5/5

Our 5-day walking safari from Ngorongoro to Lake Natron was absolutely fantastic and unforgettable. We have already seen quite some parts of Tanzania in previous journeys, but this tour genuinely impressed us.

The landscapes were spectacular: endless views over the Great Rift Valley and remote Maasai land. Walking through such untouched terrain made the experience feel authentic and far away from the usual tourist routes.

The camping was basic at times (including one night with a bush toilet), but that only added to the adventure. The tents were comfortable and always set up for us. Matrasses and sleeping bags were provided. The cook prepared delicious meals every day, far beyond what we expected in such conditions.

A very special thank you to Miranda and Roko, who went above and beyond to make sure everything ran smoothly.

We highly recommend this trip to anyone looking for a real off-the-beaten-path adventure in Tanzania.

Small and authentic tour operator based in the Northen Tanzania. The journey, with them, was unforgettable. Miranda and Roko are so nice, nice people! They provided assistance before and during all my stay in Tanzania. I visited different areas and I stayed safe in contact with nature and animals, campings booked were fine and the food was plentiful and tasty . I also discovered uncrowded and peaceful areas thanks to them. During the trip We had some problems with the cars due to bad roads conditions , they solved them very fast.
