Reliable, knowledgeable, friendly, and flexible - highly recommended!
My son and I travelled to Lalibela in the middle of February, 2024. Daniel was exceptional - he's very knowledgeable, friendly, and most of appreciated of all was very flexible. Over two days we visited all the churches, the cave monastery, and the mountain church. For those worried about safety, we felt 100% safe 100% of the time. Highly recommended!

Excellent and highly recommend!
Dan is a wonderful tour guide. He took me to all the churches in Lalibela and knew all the secret entrances! We visited on Sunday so there were many worshippers and ceremonies to watch. Dan was born in Lalibela so knows all the history and explains in excellent English. Also we ate a traditional lunch at his home - it was amazing! I highly recommend Dan when you are visiting Lalibela.

Amazing and unique churches
Thanks to Dan for an amazing trip to Lalibela to see the ancient rock hewn churches. It was the highlight of our trip to Africa and can highly recommend Dan to anyone thinking about visiting this amazing site. Despite recent concerns in the area, we felt 100% safe. So glad we made the trek.

organisation with exceptional Knowlage on Lalibela ans surroundings and very friendly contact
I organized quite a lot of trips and tours, guided by Daniel Shewalem. He grow up in the village and knows many details you can not find in a written guide. He is a very friedly man, reliable and has many good ideas for sight seeing.

Great tour
I recently took a 10 day trip in Ethiopia with Dan and it was an amazing experience. We visited Lalibela including a day of trekking, Bahir Dahr, Gonder and the Simien mountain. Package included accomodation transfers and local guides at each location.
Dan took me to some cool local places and had great recommendations for coffee and restaurants. Was also very flexible and willing to tailor every part of the tour to my interests e.g I mentioned I was interested in a traditional coffee ceremony and he had arranged one for me that afternoon. All of the accomodations were very good.Cost was also very reasonable.
I would recommend travelling with a guide as it makes things logistically easy and you get to have more unique local experiences

Daniel, Fantastic Guide in Lalibela, Trip Coordinator
Daniel recently showed me around Lalibela for 3 days and was a wonderful guide! He was really considerate and adjusted the schedule to do things that I was interested in. Daniel's father was a priest so he has a lot of special insights into the churches and culture. Having homemade lunch with his family was a true highlight. He was very respectful, and which was important to me as a solo female traveller. Daniel also helped me plan a trip to Harar and Arba Minch (Konso & Dorze) and coordinated fantastic local guides in each place. All arranged by WhatsApp and email in advance. Highly recommended!!!

The man who created a fairy tale for us
I almost never write reviews, but for all the work Daniel has done, this is the least I can do for him. When I was choosing Ethiopia, I found quite a few travel agencies to whom I wrote a list of places I wanted to visit. And Daniel was the only one who described in great detail all the places to visit and why they should be visited; approached our desires individually; did not offer trivial tourist routes; and told us about some subtleties that no one else told us about. Daniel completely freed us from any worries about moving around the country, always controlled the situation and resolved any difficulties that arose or our desires. For our trip, Daniel selected an incredible team, to whom we are also very grateful. In each region, we were met by local guides who provided us with a sense of safety, knew everything and organized colorful routes for us, thanks to which we were able to see the unique beauty of Ethiopia. In each tribe we were met by a local guide who knew everyone there, which allowed us to delve into the life and culture of the tribes.
One of the main desires was to attend the Feast of the Exaltation of the Cross, and Daniel advised us to celebrate this holiday not in the capital, but in Lalibela. And we believe that his suggestion was 100% correct. The spectacle was very impressive, we are very glad that we were able to be here. He knew the best places to stand to really enjoy the festival in honor of the holiday, and also personally conducted 2 days of excursions to the temples of the city, told in detail and showed unique places.
Thanks to Daniel, we traveled all over Ethiopia (Turmi, Jinka, Abra Minch, Lalibela, Addis-Ababa, Danakil Depression and Simien Mountains), visited the most amazing and unique places on the planet, saw things we couldn't even dream of, lived in the most beautiful places, experienced a whole kaleidoscope of emotions and received an incredible number of the warmest and most unforgettable emotions and impressions. Because of this, we fell in love with Africa and now dream of visiting more than one country. The only thing I regret is that Daniel only works in Ethiopia.
