Amazing and unique churches
5/5

Thanks to Dan for an amazing trip to Lalibela to see the ancient rock hewn churches. It was the highlight of our trip to Africa and can highly recommend Dan to anyone thinking about visiting this amazing site. Despite recent concerns in the area, we felt 100% safe. So glad we made the trek.

I organized quite a lot of trips and tours, guided by Daniel Shewalem. He grow up in the village and knows many details you can not find in a written guide. He is a very friedly man, reliable and has many good ideas for sight seeing.

Great tour
5/5

I recently took a 10 day trip in Ethiopia with Dan and it was an amazing experience. We visited Lalibela including a day of trekking, Bahir Dahr, Gonder and the Simien mountain. Package included accomodation transfers and local guides at each location.

Dan took me to some cool local places and had great recommendations for coffee and restaurants. Was also very flexible and willing to tailor every part of the tour to my interests e.g I mentioned I was interested in a traditional coffee ceremony and he had arranged one for me that afternoon. All of the accomodations were very good.Cost was also very reasonable.

I would recommend travelling with a guide as it makes things logistically easy and you get to have more unique local experiences

The man who created a fairy tale for us
5/5

I almost never write reviews, but for all the work Daniel has done, this is the least I can do for him. When I was choosing Ethiopia, I found quite a few travel agencies to whom I wrote a list of places I wanted to visit. And Daniel was the only one who described in great detail all the places to visit and why they should be visited; approached our desires individually; did not offer trivial tourist routes; and told us about some subtleties that no one else told us about. Daniel completely freed us from any worries about moving around the country, always controlled the situation and resolved any difficulties that arose or our desires. For our trip, Daniel selected an incredible team, to whom we are also very grateful. In each region, we were met by local guides who provided us with a sense of safety, knew everything and organized colorful routes for us, thanks to which we were able to see the unique beauty of Ethiopia. In each tribe we were met by a local guide who knew everyone there, which allowed us to delve into the life and culture of the tribes.
One of the main desires was to attend the Feast of the Exaltation of the Cross, and Daniel advised us to celebrate this holiday not in the capital, but in Lalibela. And we believe that his suggestion was 100% correct. The spectacle was very impressive, we are very glad that we were able to be here. He knew the best places to stand to really enjoy the festival in honor of the holiday, and also personally conducted 2 days of excursions to the temples of the city, told in detail and showed unique places.
Thanks to Daniel, we traveled all over Ethiopia (Turmi, Jinka, Abra Minch, Lalibela, Addis-Ababa, Danakil Depression and Simien Mountains), visited the most amazing and unique places on the planet, saw things we couldn't even dream of, lived in the most beautiful places, experienced a whole kaleidoscope of emotions and received an incredible number of the warmest and most unforgettable emotions and impressions. Because of this, we fell in love with Africa and now dream of visiting more than one country. The only thing I regret is that Daniel only works in Ethiopia.

Amazing Full Experience in Lalibela (Guide, Hotel, Transfer and even Souvenirs)
5/5

It was our first time in Ethiopia and we wanted to fly to Lalibela but news online said it could be dangerous. We asked around but there were not so many information for us to be sure. So we decide to give it a try. And we are really happy we did.

Already in the plane we felt good with the presence of other tourists. But we we arrived we met Dan who is a really nice guy, and told us a lot about the city he grew up in.

Visiting Lalibela was an amazing experience, from the scenery views close to the airport, to the food and the hotel, to the churches itself, and dan choose the best way to present it to us.

It is sad to see that because of misinformation, tourism has been deeply affected in such a unique place, but i wanted to write these review also to encourage other people to visit Lalibela.

Send Danny a message, im sure he will be able to provide a wonderful experience of you!

One day trip to Lalibela with a competent guide
5/5

I went to Lalibela with 2 friends of mine for a one-day trip in mid-October. I contacted Daniel 2 weeks before our arrival. We discussed in length all details of the trip. He helped us make the perfect plan to make the best of our short stay. I appreciated his prompt responses and well articulated and detailed answers. It was very helpful since we had worries about the overall situation in Lalibela after the war. But we weren’t disappointed at all. He was punctual, he picked us up in the airport and dropped us at the end on time. He arranged our stay in the hotel and our meals. And most importantly he had deep knowledge of the history of his town. He speaks perfect English and we appreciated his energetic and captivating way of storytelling. He added more depth to our visit with his extensive knowledge of the region and all the hidden gems. We also went on a hike to Asheton monastery, which was a challenging trek where you get to enjoy the best landscapes of the beautiful Lalibela nature. We discussed a variety of topics (politics, religion, history…). Daniel answered all of our inquiries. I highly recommend Daniel for all his skills and professionalism. He made our trip worthwhile. I rate him as excellent.

An extremely knowledgable and capable professional
5/5

We worked with Daniel as part of a larger professional photography project, with very exacting requirements, oftentimes extremely demanding both in terms of the people we needed to work with as well as the conditions, timings etc. Daniel was able to make everything work, overcoming any challenges which arose during the project and providing quick solutions. It has been an absolute pleasure working with Daniel, I would recommend his services to everyone, and even more so to any demanding professional photographer visiting Lalibela and Ethiopia in general. I am personally looking forward to working with Daniel again soon.

Daniel, Fantastic Guide in Lalibela, Trip Coordinator
5/5

Daniel recently showed me around Lalibela for 3 days and was a wonderful guide! He was really considerate and adjusted the schedule to do things that I was interested in. Daniel's father was a priest so he has a lot of special insights into the churches and culture. Having homemade lunch with his family was a true highlight. He was very respectful, and which was important to me as a solo female traveller. Daniel also helped me plan a trip to Harar and Arba Minch (Konso & Dorze) and coordinated fantastic local guides in each place. All arranged by WhatsApp and email in advance. Highly recommended!!!
