Choose ANY other company!
The guide Simon is a tourist who moved to South Africa to do tours and it shows in his arrogant, opinionated, disrespect of the South African people (he made fun of the way they talk), disrespect of the animals (he was gleeful at the thought of witnessing a kill in stark contrast to how the local guides respectfully handled the same situation and he even defended poaching saying "poachers are just people trying to feed their families") and his disrespectful comments about americans which he repeatedly made. Kruger National Park was amazing, the South African people were wonderful-- do the tour, just do it with ANY company but this one!

Posted on Apr 5, 2016Hi Donna,
I take great pride in my job and in offering people the best safari experience possible. I am, therefore, greatly disappointed that you feel your safari didn’t live up to that standard. I am also sorry for the way that you feel about me as a person. I am passionate and enthusiastic about the Kruger and its wildlife. This shows up in the fact that I get excited about the animals and their behaviour. I always try and get close to the action and position the vehicle in the best possible way for the guests to see and photograph. If that is considered gleeful, then I’m guilty as charged. Most guests realise that this puts me in stark contrast to other guides, for whom guiding is merely a job. For me, this is my life, and I love seeing animals live and act in their natural environment, and showcasing that to the guests who come on my safaris.
Conversation around the dinner table often turns to relevant issues such as wildlife management, conservation, poaching, hunting and culling. I never condoned poaching and never will. It’s one of the more serious issues that we are currently struggling with. Perhaps you didn’t quite understand the context of my poaching statement. I mentioned that poachers are often killed in Kruger, to which you responded: ”Great, I hope they shoot more.” I continued saying that shooting poachers is not the real solution, many are merely doing it to feed their families. The fight of rhino poaching is much bigger than merely eradicating poachers. I’m not quite sure how you interpret this as me defending or condoning poaching.
I’m baffled by the fact that you think I’m a “tourist” when I have in fact been born and raised in South Africa and have lived my whole life here. I am also not quite sure what you are suggesting by saying that me being a “tourist” shows in me supposedly being arrogant, opinionated and disrespectful. What does that say about other tourists?
With regards to making fun of people, I do like to look at the lighter side of life. Most people refer to it as having a sense of humour. I guess it takes two people with a sense of humour for a joke to work. I can’t quite recall where I made fun of the way South Africans talk. After all, I am South African and I talk like them. I might talk funny, but I’ve learned to live with it. I have had many Americans on safari before, and most of them don’t take the things I say so literally or personally. I’ve made the same jokes before without anyone ever getting offended.
In the end, I still tried to make the safari a success, as far as possible. I went out of my way to cater to your vegetarian and gluten free requirements (unfortunately I was not told in advance that your husband also does not eat other things like onions or garlic). It appears my best efforts were perhaps not enough, or not appreciated by you.
We were lucky to have many great sightings including various predators such as lion (even the rare white lion), leopard, cheetah, wild dogs, etc. By sightings alone you were very fortunate, but it is a pity that normal and natural predator behaviour was disturbing to you. I also purposefully did not go to sightings that I knew would get you upset, like the lions feeding on a buffalo kill. For the sake of the other guests, I also tried to keep things light-hearted. I believe I had some success in giving them a great experience, despite the tension caused by your obvious displeasure, as can been seen in their review of the same safari (by Mary, dated 4 April 2016).
I leave you with the same words I said when I dropped you off, “I know this safari might not have been the best experience for you, but at least I hope that you can take some good memories home with you.” I always think one should hold on to the positives, rather than the negatives.
Personally, however, I do not think going with any other company would have made the experience any less miserable for you.
All the best for your future.
Regards,
Simon Vegter

Highly professional and reliable tour company
This was the fifth trip to South Africa that WildWings Safaris have planned for us and was thoroughly enjoyable from start to finish.
We decided to concentrate on game watching in the Greater Kruger area and used Clare again to plan the detail. She’s attentive, prompt, thorough…and patient with us, helping us to choose two family run camps,- Motswari in Timbavati and Nottens in Sabi Sands. They were both perfect for our needs. We had lots of wonderful sightings, great food and exceptionally friendly service.
The transport arrangements made by Clare ( internal flights from Johannesburg and private taxi transfers between camps) were seamless and made the logistics of the travel comfortable. These were very affordable by the way!
Back home less than two days and we’ve already asked Clare to put together our next trip to South Africa.

Awesome Safari Adventure
Can’t say enough about Wild Wings Safaris and the trip they put together for all 11 of us. I contacted 5 other safari companies and not one came close to the professionalism and responsiveness of Wild Wings. And the itinerary developed and the lodging quoted, we knew we made the right choice.
And looking back on the trip, we had no issues or glitches along the way. And I can’t speak more highly of the lodging our Tour Consultant, Tanja, set up. The people working at these places were exceptional. And a shout out to Baobab Ridge Private Lodge near Kruger. A truly hidden gem!
I could go on and on, but let’s just say, thanks to Wild Wings, what a trip of a lifetime we had.

Trip of a life time
We had the best time on safari - hands down one of the best trips and experiences we’ve had. The pick up/transfer with the external company and then wild wings into the park was super smooth, as was the trip back to J’burg for us on the transfer bus for our evening flight.
The safari itself was exceptional - we felt 4 days was perfect for us - we were really fortunate to see the whole magnificent 7, and the way the guides communicate with each other to help ensure that all clients get a great experience in the park was fantastic. We were the only people on our safari and the experience of having our guide Rufus to ourself and timings / locations then being entirely flexible was excellent - we were surprised at how little free time we had by the time we’d been out on a drive, detoured to various sightings and then popped back for a brief lunch, before back out again and home for dinner.
Accommodation was simple (as described) but perfectly clean and serviceable for what we needed. Rufus cooked for us each evening, and this was also great - plenty of tasty and varied food. We thoroughly enjoyed getting to know Rufus and sitting to eat with him; the opportunity to eat as a group with others on safari or have the option to go to the camp restaurant for dinner would have been an added bonus but this isn’t to say the food and experience we had wasn’t great! Both of us were astonished how nice ostrich was and the meals Rufus did were delicious, with us still then having a few hours in the evening before sleeping ready for the next day.
A really fabulous trip with great communication and smooth pick up/organising. We would (and already have!) recommended to friends/family as a fantastic tour provider.

Excellent safari!
We had an absolutely amazing safari experience with Wild Wings! Our tour guide, Nicky, was very knowledgeable and friendly. We got to see all of the big 5 (we realize this is not guaranteed) and many more animals as well. The trip was comfortable, the food was great, there was absolutely nothing to complain about. I highly recommend Wild Wings for anyone looking for a Kruger safari!

Very good service
My husband and I went on a trip to South Africa for 11 days in the end of June. We stayed 6 days in Cape Town and 5 days in Kruger Park at the Baobab Ridge lodge area for a safari experience. All the pick ups and tranfers to and from the airport and between places inside of South Africa worked out very well, the service was very good and efficient. The communication between us and the operator was impecable. All our questions were answered and everything was organized with detail and caution. The operator was also very easy to reach out at all times before the trip and also during. Our guide in Cape Town was very knowledgeable, she knew a lot about not just the history of the country, but also about endemic vegetation and wild life. We definitely learned a lot with her, which was amazing. She also knew where to get certain things that are traditional in south africa. She also bought me a lip balm for my dry lips. Very caring and thoughtful. We spent one day out in the ocean for a shark cage experience. Very unique and all worked out pretty well too. In the Kruger Park at the logde where we stayed, people were very nice, the facilities were great, pretty luxurious. The food was so delicious, I am pretty sure the cook was a top chef. The guides in the safari were very nice and we also learned a lot with them about the animals and the surroundings. It felt really crazy and spectacular to see the animals in their habitat and so close. It was a fabulous experience and I truly recommend this company to organize such a trip.

An amazing experience of a lifetime!
We just returned from an amazing 5-Day Best of Kruger Safari with Wild Wings Safari. If you are thinking about booking- don’t hesitate. Here’s why:
Clare’s coordination of our safari and prompt communication set the tone for our trip. We felt like we were in good, solid, professional hands from the start.
This professionalism, warmth and “heart” carried through to our Safari experience with Simon, Nicky and Doug. Our Safari experience truly exceeded our expectations. We got to see the Big 5, went on a bush walk and night drive. Our guides were a blast and were so knowledgeable.
Having Doug cook our delicious meals was a delight. We appreciated his thoughtful menu choices and preparation. Our family/group meals together was a highlight.
Thank you so much to the Wild Wings Safari team who made this experience so fantastic and accessible! We had such a wonderful time as a family!
