Northern Tanzania Circuit with additional Zanzibar stay
My partner and I had been saving for our once in a lifetime safari experience for a year and when we contacted the mainstream holiday companies in the UK, found that their holidays were inflexible and too expensive. We wanted a more personalised experience at a price that we could afford. I found out about Afroriginal when I emailed about 10-15 tour operators from the Tanzania Association of Tour Opearators. Desiree responded to me via email explaining how she could fit my budget and give me a great private safari. After about 3 weeks of emails back and forth where we finetuned the itinary, we finalised our trip with Desiree.
The trip itself was something I will never ever forget. Desiree herself met us at our first hotel and had a drink with us while we were beside the pool, a nice touch. Stuart was our driver for the 1st week, where we visited Tarangire National Park, Ngorongoro Crater and then 5 days in the Serengeti. He was very knowledgable about the different animals and habitats and he delivered in making that first week exciting.
The lodges we stayed in were top notch and it was particularly fun sitting out at the campfire and listening to the lions in the distance.
Zanzibar is a great add on if you have the time. I wasnt expecting Stone Town to be so much fun and my one regret is that we did not spend as much time there as we could have. That said our beach lodge was the perfect quiet escape after a long (but very enjoyable) week on safari.
We couldnt be happier with our experience and if we are ever to go back, we would definately book again with Desiree.

Just what we wanted
I have been on many safaris and wanted a custom safari for myself and three friends from the US. We took two short safaris and they were perfect. Since I have so much experience, I know that we were given a great value for the money. Our guide was knowledgeable and very professional. And we were lucky. We got to see the Wildebeest crossing the Mara River. But I also know it was because we were in the right place at the right time thanks to Afroriginals.
We did two safaris with Afroriginal, the first to Tarangire/Ngorongoro and the second to Serengeti.
The service was excellent. We stayed in top of the line places and Faye was extremely knowledgeable about the animals, their characteristics and their behavior. There was hardly any questions he couldn't answer and when he didn't know the answer, he told us and usually had the answer the next day. The only thing I wouldn't do again is Oldupai Gorge. It was $20 a person, and wasn't worth it. The people running the site were uncommunicative, and all of us agreed it was a waste of money and time.

Great last minute decision
I had a fantastic time on my private tour with Afroriginal Tours. Desiree was very timely, accommodating and helpful in arranging my last minute (2 days before) booking of the tour through Manyara and Ongorongoro.
When my flight was delayed 3 hours, pushing my arrival time past midnight, Stewart, my tour guide remained cheerful even though he had to wait all of that extra time for me to arrive. Much appreciated! He was very knowledgeable about the animals and even spotted a few before we reached Manyara.
Overall it was a great experience.

super family safari
As a flight attendant with KLM , I came upon Desirees name, at the "Slipsite", and she had very good reviews written by my colleagues. That is why I decided to contact her; First questions with Desiree were always answered quickly, and to the point, so in no time, we could make our own tailor-made safari. Desiree thought of the smallest details, and we were picked up at every airport by pleasant drivers in good cars. During our safari, our guide Fay was a pleasant and very capable driver/guide, who showed us more than we could have wished for, and always had interesting info available about specific animals and their behaviour. We slept in beautiful tented camps, such as Katikati and Maramboi, at a very pleasant and welcoming B&B near Shira Plateau, Simba lodge, and a stunning Mbalageti lodge with the most beautiful views ever. Fay drove us safely through the savanna and other overwhelmingly beautiful nature parks. as a family of 4 (2 teenagers of 15 & 16 years old) we had a fantastic safari-holiday; a real once-in a lifetime journey. Because the safari was quite tiring (early wake-up, long days in the car over mudroads, dust everywhere) we decided to spend our last 6 days in the beautiful Konokono resort on Zanzibar Island, that Desiree had picked out for us; very friendly and helpful staff, new, spacious villas, and a broad set-up, only 54 guests in such a huge resort; very relaxing and luxurious. for the last day, Desiree had arranged a day room near Arusha airport, so we took an early flight from zanzibar via Dar to Arusha, were there already at 11am, but that way, we would not have to stress if we would make our flight home. We can highly recommend Afroriginal tours, We had a fantastic holiday thanks to Desiree and Fay!

Amazing holiday!
The trip was put together by Desiree. We told our wishes and she put an trip together, what we liked. Easy to keep in contact with her. The trip was amazing, everything was perfectly arranged. We had the best driver, Frances! He made the trip unforgettable for us and we had a lot of fun.

Good advice up-front. All well prepared and good choice of safaris and lodges in line with budget.
We contacted Afroriginal in February of 2015 and Desiree offered us a good package which was very clear to us. It described the safaris well and what we could expect from the lodges which were well picked. During our visit we got a very open and known driver during the safaris. Desiree stayed in contact regularly and helped us if and when necessary. They were also flexible so we also could organize some of the days ourselves. We had a great time!

Great Safari Experience
We had a wonderful experience with Afroriginal. Even though we arranged the safari at nearly the last minute, Desiree was extremely responsive and helpful in setting up the itinerary and arranging our guide and transportation. She met us at the airport in Arusha and introduced us to our guide, Stewart. Stewart was fantastic, extremely knowledgeable about all the ecosystems and animals that we encountered. Would definitely recommend Afroriginal to anyone looking for a good safari operator in the future.

Kilimanjaro tour-Lemosho route
We had an excellent trip going up on mount Kilimanjaro. Beforehand good communications with Desiree, equipment checking done by our guides Jeromy and Samuel. Everything we had expected came true....sunny weather, rain, cold, ice. The tents were fine, food bij cook Alpha was surprisingly good and all the time we had the idea that our guides had everything under control. The summit attempt was great and in the end a wonderful spectacle: watching the sun rising on mount Kilimanjaro. Many thanks to Desiree and Fay. We can surely recommend Afroriginal Tours to everyone.

Quite simply the best holiday we have ever had
We chose Afroriginal Tours from a number of operators having read and compared numerous reviews of the different companies and because of their swift and professional response to our initial enquiries.
We had been planning this holiday for many months and received great advice from Desiree on planning the safari and also the the holiday in Zanzibar at the end.
She was excellent in terms of answering our queries very quickly and also organised absolutely everything for us. She made everything so easy and it was a pleasure to meet her at the beginning of the trip.
Our guide Stewart was excellent and his knowledge of animals and birds as well as his spotting ability made this an unforgettable experience. We truly enjoyed his company.
We spent a full week on safari and stayed in various places all part of the Tanganyika Wilderness Camps. Every single place we stayed in was perfect from the Maramboi Camp,Tloma Lodge,Kati Kati Camp and finally Kitala Lodge. I would recommend these places to anyone.
