Amazing wildlife, beautiful setting around a great lake, a bit too close to Kenyas second biggest towns makes the rating of the bush vibe a bit lower.

Excellent Safari and Friendly Staff

My wife and I booked a 4 day budget safari through Jackpot Safaris to Lake Manyara, Ngorongoro Crater and the Serengeti. We had a fantastic experience with our guide Derek and exceptional cook Wazir. We really enjoyed our time in Tanzania and highly recommend using Jackpot Safaris if you are considering a future safari.

Lots and lots of wild animals, maybe the one with most wildlife of all parks. The landscape is savanna and not that varied. This is the most visited park and you sometimes find almost traffic jams around the animals. Then again it's a big park and you could sometimes go for quite some time without running into other tourists.

Exceptional Friendly Service

We were most fortunate to get connected with Taga Safaris Africa before our trip to South Africa in 2005. Celeste was wonderful. She was able to quickly book us in at the Safari Camp that we wanted to stay at...even though they were booked solid. We had a fantastic room. Celeste also took care of our flights in and out of Johannesburg. She made it seamless. Mark and Celeste treated us like family. We are hoping to get back to South Africa for another safari one day and we will definitely use Taga Safaris Africa.

Plan your safari very early- possibly before you leave but definitely in your first week. The more people in your group, the cheaper the safari (4 day safari in Serengeti/north circuit will run $600-700 plus flights/bus if you have >2 people in your group, whereas it will be >$1200 if you are alone). I tried for 3 weeks to join groups but couldn’t find any companies that had groups to join, so couldn’t go to the northern circuit.
Instead I went on safari to the southern circuit in Selous. This was an awesome experience and we got to see tons of wildlife in the comfort of luxury tents (true 5 star experience with excellent food and service). You are truly immersed in wildlife 24 hours each day with giraffe walking by your showers. I woke to fresh morning tea just to see a herd of elephants walk right by my tent. Each day you're there you have a choice between a boat, walking or truck safari (2 total per day). The stars at night are the most brilliant I have ever seen (zero light pollution). There is a guard that patrols the camp for lions at all times and you are always escorted at night from the dinning tent back to your own tent (big cats will roam the camp site at times). I always felt comfortable and protected, although the animal sounds at night were pretty exciting. If you want to see pictures you can look at my flickr site at:

My friends previously went on safari at Serengeti with Sunny’s Safari, and they said they enjoyed that company.

A grand meeting with nature and wild life

We traveled with JK Safaris for a week and our first stop was at Meru. This is a bit away from Nairobi and maybe that's why the park isn't very busy. It's a big advantage since you at time can view wildlife on pretty much on your own. This park might be one of your best chances to get to see one of the last black rhinos in the wild. We stayed at Murera Springs Eco Lodge which offered nice rooms just by the entrance to the park and also featured a small swimming pool for relaxing in the sun in between the safaris. Our guide Sammy from JK was really friendly and tried to give us the best experience possible. We had several meetings with Giraffes (and these are a different kind from those in Lake Nakuru and Masai Mara), Elephants, Rhinos (black and white) and other beautiful animals. A visit is highly recommended.
