Review about Waterberg Plateau Park by Nicholas Olesen Photography

Waterberg Plateau Park has beautiful scenery, but wildlife is difficult to spot without staying at a private reserve. I only spent one night here and, having been to Etosha National Park, I was there for the scenery and not for the wildlife.

Damaraland is very interesting culturally as you can learn about the Damara people and how they lived. There are also beautiful landscapes, the Grootberg plateau being one of the highlights on my trip. There is also some wildlife, however relatively scarce due to the dry terrain.

If you haven't experienced a safari and are in S Africa then Kruger and surroundings are a definite must see. Take at least 4 days to get away and enjoy at least one full day on safari to get a taste of the beauty and animals. Night safari if you can arrange is a different additional experience and tented overnight stay as well to get full immersion of night time sounds. I did 4 days/3 nights with Viva Safaris and stayed at Tremisana and Katekani properties, cannot recommend them enough. Great guides, one full day, one night, and several other shorter safaris including a bush walk, good company, good food and saw all sorts of birds and animals (big5 for sure). Wish i had more time to see the Blyde River Canyon more extensively but will just have to come back for more. :)

About: Tanzania
Breathtaking country with amazing people

We traveled to both Zanzibar and Tanzania mainland. We decided to plan most of the travel on our own which scared me. Even thought I am experienced in traveling around the rest of the world, I have never been to Africa and was not sure how things would work there. I can say you have absolutely nothing to worry. There are still pure soul people, I literally did not feel uncomfortable or in danger what so ever. You can book any daytrips at the beach from “beach boys” and everybody keeps their word and are punctual. In general, everybody was so willing to help us it’s unbelievable. Can’t think where to travel next after this experience.

Regarding safari, oh my gosh. We did Nyerere and Mikumi park and it was amazing. We booked extra night safari, but we probably expected way too much from that. It’s difficult to describe the experience but it’s beautiful to see these free animals living in the nature instead of the zoo. They are free and happy, just lovely. We did not see lions in the 3 days we spent inside the parks (5 days trip total but 2,5 days we just spent traveling and braise yourself 😄). However we managed to see a leopard which was precious. Our guide Anthony from Bujo Tours was such a sweetheart. Very helpful but also giving us space to choose when we want to interact. Just a lovely experience.

Lemme warn you here - you are in the wilderness and behave like that. We encountered multiple animals in our camp including a buffalo. Always follow tips from the camps and have Masai people take you to your accommodation after dark. Always ask if the camp is fenced. And ENJOY. This experience is an unforgettable one 🥰

This was my second time in Arabuko Sokoke forest. I especially went there for the owl's.
My guide was very good, knew all the birds, made sounds to lure them and overall it was one of my better birdwalks in Kenya. ( a lot)
I did book a room in Mida Eco Camp to be in Arabuko as soon as it opened in the next morning.
The owl's made my day !
