One of a kind safari destination from the beginning to the end

The Ngorongoro Crater is a one of a kind safari destination from the beginning to the end.
We went with a personal safari driver by jeep with open rooftop. From the moment you drive into the park the experience begin as the road takes you up and up until you reach the top of the side of the crater. A viewpoint overlooking the entire crater was the first breathtaking view. From this viewpoint we spottet a couple of elephants and then we were ready to go down into the crater. On the way to the entry road into the crater we saw giraffes and Masai people with all their cattles (the live around the crater). Inside the crater we saw wildlife such as ostrichs, wilderbeasts, warthogs, zebras, baboons, elephants, hyenas, hippos, buffalos, jackals, antilopes and lions up close (and probably more i can't remember at the moment). We were even lucky to see two young male lions feasting on a buffalo at close range. In the distance we saw two black rhinos they are rare to see due to the low population in the park.
Most of the time we drove around observing the animals without any other safari jeeps around. They were visible in the horizon (since the landscape is mostly flat and at that time a year the vegetation is completely dry) and once in a while we crossed roads and at major attraction spots (like the lions feasting) we were several jeeps gathered.
Our tour operator had organized lunch for us, which we ate by a lake with hippos relaxing in the water.
Overall we are very satisfied with our safari experience in the Ngorongoro Crater and will recommend it.

Surreal. The beauty and the wildlife but most of all the people will leave you stunned.

The wildlife was spectacular and the way the viewing were arranged by Mararumi safaris was nothing short of exceptional. Our driver and guide, Robin, was amazing. He was so well versed on where to find the animals and birds and was accommodating of all our requests. The places we stayed at amazing and it was a delight to enjoy international cuisines each day, along with the local fare.
The trip to Masai village was a cherry on the top. The way villagers live, how they create/make fire with just wood and stone, their way of life and the way they build the home, was a learning experience for all of us.

First time Safari - Luxury and Lions
5/5

We recently stayed at Shamwari Bayethe Lodge on our first ever safari and absolutely loved it. We went there on a recommendation from The Luxury Safari Company as a must do after our Cape Town and Garden Route tour and wanted to mention Bayethe especially since I was 5 months pregnant and all the staff and our guide were very accommodating, always driving carefully on game drives. The lodge itself is beautiful (we didn't realise that's what a luxury safari was all about!!) and we saw some fantastic wildlife including all the big cats.

Seeing the Born Free Foundation headquarters was also a big draw for us and it proved to be as interesting as we originally thought. We went twice during our four night stay and found their work truly inspirational. We're hooked on safaris now and can't wait to go back, although probably won't be for a few years now!

Next time we go on Safari it will inevitably be with children, and I will be contacting Rose at the Luxury Safari Company again to make our travel arrangements... she thinks of everything so I know I will be in safe hands!

Once in a lifetime experience

We really enjoyed our two weeks in Kenya, which included a safari, some camping, time by the coast and some time in Nairobi.

The wildlife and landscapes are incredible - this was our first safari so not sure how it compares to other countries, but we saw everything we wanted to see. The weather was generally pleasant, a bit cooler with a few more showers than we were expecting but nice to not be sweltering.

The vast majority of people we spoke to were very friendly and customer service is generally very good. We weren't always sure about tipping but a small gesture of appreciation always seemed to go down well.

Visitors should be prepared to be approached by sales people in popular destinations like the beach - they were always very friendly and never aggressive, but some were very persistent which did taint our experience a bit.

We were in Nairobi during the protests, and other than road closures we weren't too affected. It's not the kind of city you can generally walk around very easily, so as long as you take sensible precautions it isn't a particularly unsafe place to be.

Africa's Postcard

If you want to see Lions, elephants, hippos, crocs against a beautiful african backdrop, this is your place. It isn't particularly easy to travel through independently (i.e. get there by bus etc), but certainly possible. Once there hiring a local guide is the best thing to do. We caught a taxi to Katunguru, then hired a guide called Mustafa (who is well known in the area, and is listed in the Bradt travel guide). He was fantastic, would very much recommend going with him.

I have used Africa Pathfinder Safaris twice....in 2007 and 2011. On both occasions Patrick was very professional, helpful and friendly. I would certainly recommend him to anyone thinking of visiting this beautiful country.
