High water levels have caused the flamingos to leave. This is not worth visiting at present.

High lake levels for the past 2 years have caused the flamingos to leave. Waterbuck, zebra, baboon, and other common wildlife remain, but don't go expecting to see the flamingo flock.

Review about Moremi Game Reserve by gfin

4/5

We just did one evening river trip into Moremi, out of Little Kwara lodge. The birding was good and the sense of wetland wilderness was very strong. We had a dramatic hippo encounter there.

Excellent variety and quantity of wildlife.

We used lodges varying from primitive and rustic to 4-star class. A guided kayak trip out of Maun was based in ordinary 2-person tents. The Footsteps lodge was cabin-sized tents with plumbing, but the Little Kwara lodge was much better appointed. The food at both lodges was very good. The guided game drives produced many great close-up wildlife sightings and the guides were usually well trained and very friendly. Our weather in May was unusually cool, getting down to near freezing some nights. The days were comfortable, but the temps for dawn game drives required a jacket on top of a sweater. The clothes that we took were not quite warm enough for comfort in these conditions. The upside of the low temperatures was that we had no trouble at all with bugs.
Our favorite memories came from dawn and sunset game-tracking walks with the local native guide on our kayak trip north of Maun.

About: Botswana
Review about Botswana by gfin

4/5

Outside of the Delta Botswana is a dry country of flat, bush-covered semi-arid terrain. We didn't travel the southern parts of the country that are pure desert, but I expect that the scenery there is equally stark. This kind of country has real beauty but can easily get monotonous because there is little variety.

We had a superb safari, well organised and with an excellent guide and driver.

The whole trip went well, from the earliest contact with Kikwetu. We couldn't have had a better guide than Isaac Oumar, who is an expert on the habits of the wildlife and culture of the area. Together with our very competent driver Robert, they were able to predict the best places to view even elusive animals like leopards, lion prides, and a broad range of animals by predicting their hideouts and behaviour. We thoroughly enjoyed their company and learnt much about the region. I would now like to do other tours led by Isaac who is an expert on the whole east coast even beyond Kenya I believe.

A class act all the way. Perfection down to the minute details. Could not have been better!

We booked our 14 day Africa itinerary with Africa Untamed through Pam Blair in California on a friends recommendation. We live in Florida so this was a long distance internet relationship.  All of our many questions plus  tweaking of the itinerary worked out by Pam and AU were answered and attended to quickly and painlessly. We chose to arrive in Africa via Johannesburg to access Victoria Falls and Botswana wildlife. The arrangements for this portion of the trip was coordinated by AU and their contacts with Victoria Falls Anytime. We were met at the airport by Jean our quide, who treated us like royalty!  The choice of accommodations and activities was excellent. Jean our guide was wonderful, knowledgeable, entertaining and outgoing. WE learned a lot about Zambia, Zimbabwe and Botswana from her.We are experienced travelers but could not begin to have  done this on our own.  On arrival at Nairobi we were spotted in baggage claim by an agent for AU and whisked thru customs to meet Elphas Ongong'o owner of AU who delivered us to our lovely hotel the Fairmont Norfolk. Again more royalty treatment as Elphas took us to a fine restaurant for dinner and came in the morning with Simon Muriuki who was to be our guide and host for the next 4 days. Elphas told us Simon Muriuki is probably the best guide in Kenya and we could not agree more! His vast knowledge of his country and it's animals was amazing! As a result of his commentary, we knew more about the animals, than some of our other quides!. We set off for the 5 hour ride to the Samburu Simba lodge seeing a great cross section of Kenyan countryside. Two days there followed by a day at Sweetwaters Tented camp with Simon as our personal guide and spotter provided us with amazing photographs of a variety of animals, including the big 5, close up. Thanks to him, we have some very amazing photographs! Flying an hour plus and two intermediate stops from Nanyuki to Masai Mara Game preserve gave us a birds eye view of the various levels of agriculture and wilderness. Our "home for  4 days was the luxury tented camp Il Moran. We got to finish the tour seeing and photographing the big 5 plus all the other animals, again capped by a balloon ride and gourmet breakfast where the balloon landed in the plains within the park. Our flight back to Nairobi again encompassed two intermediate stops' Once again we were met by Elphas who delivered us back to the Fairmont for a rest and repack and our final ride back to the airport to start our 48 hour journey home. AU, Elphas, Simon, Africa as well as all the accommodations and activities met and often exceeded our expectations. We were sad to see the end but very glad we did it!
