Once in a lifetime ***** - Experience
5/5

Our self drive tour with Tailor Made Safari’s (TMS) was from the beginning to the end an amazing experience. Due to our daughters internship at the Bethesda hospital at Mkuze we decided to plan a 23-day tour through South- Africa. She was going to join us for 7-9 days. We e- mailed our expectations (of activities, accommodation, the vehicle) to TMS and got a quick response with a proposal for our tour. We used Skype and the e-mail to communicate (even a last- minute change was no problem); the booking proces was personal and was tailormade to suit our requirements!

Our tour brought us to Durban Krantzkloof, the Drakensberg Mountains (Royal Natal National Park), Piet Retief, Swaziland (Mlilwane Wildlife Sanctuari) Ubombo, Mkuze Game Reserve, Tembe Elephant Park, Kosi Bay, Ponta d'Ouro (Mozambique), Zululand Rhino Reserve, St. Lucia, and back to Durban again. All Highlights, with the beautiful scenery at Drakensberg as our favourite. Our stay at the Tembe Safari Lodge and the Rhino River Lodge was superb. We really enjoyed the horseback riding, canoe and boat tours, cultural tour, elephant interaction, snorkeling, and our swim with the dolphins was amazing. We had various game drives and they were always exciting: We were all wondering which animals we would get to see again (and tick off our list!).

Thanks to the entire TMS team for this once in a lifetime ***** - Experience,

One WOW after another
5/5

I traveled on the 15 day Delta and Dunes Safari with my seventy-three year old mother. There was another older couple from Australia, and our guide and a camp assistant. We chose this safari because it was designed to spend several days immersed in two of the areas we were most interested in - the Okavango and Etosha. I chose this company and to base our travels out of Namibia because of concerns that hours on an overland safari jouncing in a truck would wear my mother down. Namibia has decent roads, and Wild Dog had a good reputation for being a budget safari that providing more comfortable vehicles and for reliable quality. And from the start we had a terrific experience. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable, and was very good in setting an atmosphere that was comfortable and easy - even at the end of a 15 day trip when everyone was exhausted. He even altered our schedule when we agreed we wanted to go check out the rock paintings at Brandenburg rather than stop where scheduled, accommodating our group and being flexible - in part due to the fact we all got along so well and all agreed on the change. Our camp assistant was equally wonderful - an excellent cook who spoiled us with delicacies like Kudu stew, and had the skills to prepare the food in a way that nobody got sick ... which is often a problem on big group trips when lots of germs get passed around with poor hygiene practices handling food. The campgrounds we stayed in were all comfortable - some were incredibly beautiful. And, while I was focused on Etosha and the Okavango, the other experiences along the way were for the most part interesting and worthwhile - and some were extraordinary and unexpected. The thing to realize about any overland safari is there is a lot of driving. A LOT. We spent hours in the vehicle, and even through the vehicle was good quality and we stopped for breaks, it was still tiring. Another is that we were in a small group that got along very well. Wild Dog will do a max of 14 on a trip ... and I suspect a big group might be a different (though not necessarily bad) experience. I was told that the longer trips tended to be smaller in group size. I could nit-pick: The tent needed some repair of the netting around the zipper, for example, though generally the equipment was all in functional shape. But overall Wild Dog and the Delta and Dunes safari exceeded my expectations. And this experience in Namibia was the hi-light of my six weeks in Southern Africa. I did some blog posts on the trip - here is one of the posts about an experience on this safari. http://leighpate.blogspot.com/2015/05/the-bushman-tale-lion-and-jackal.html

Lifetime experience

We found ilmaasai at the last minute, and agreed on a custom tour starting the day after. They were flexible, kind, and agreed on a price within our budget. The tour was above my expectations and will remember it forever. Thanks again!

With Discover Africa I had the most wonderful experience of my life
5/5

My trip last August to Botswana was arranged by Discover Africa and I couldn't have chosen better. Everything was well organized and I didn't have to worry about anything. The safari tour was far beyong expectations; the accommodation was superb, the guides were fantastic, the sightseeing and the animals were out of this world. I can't wait to go back, hopefully the next time I will travel with my family so they can also experience a rich adventure of unlimited emotions and definitely it will be arranged by Discover Africa. A million thanks to Discover Africa for making my dreams come true.

An amazing musical journey!
5/5

I did an 11 Day musical urban and bush safari where I got to explore ancient and modern music of Tanzania. As a student of world music, I was so excited to find this tour. While visiting this special part of Africa, I had the rare chance to meet local reggae and hip-hop muscians in Arusha and Dar while also going deep into the bush and seeing elders playing a unique assortment of hand-made instruments. I explained the scope of my interests and my guides gave a lot of thought to my itinerary and really helped convey the unique and varied musical influences of Tanzania.

Lots of animals to see, but may take time to find.
Overall rating
4/5

Hluhluwe-iMfolozi is huge! There are lots of animals, but if you are driving yourself through (as we did), they may be hard to find (probably depends a bit on the season). We had a couple stretches of maybe 45 minutes where we didn't see anything. We spent about 5-6 hours there and probably only covered 60-70% of the park. The roads are fine, though there are lots of potholes on the tarred roads. The dirt roads we did drive were borderline too much for our small car, but manageable. We had a nice time, enjoyed seeing all the animals we did find and got some good pictures. There are plenty of facilities available throughout the park, so it made for an easy place to spend the day. Several picnic areas are available as well. I think that if we go back, we'd try to go at a different time of year, because all of the watering holes were dry and I suspect many animals were sticking close to certain areas with water that we didn't find.

A big highlight to be amongst the Mountain Gorillas, hard walking at times (steep, slippery) but then to see the amazing Gorillas up close made all the uphill work worth every step.

It was well organised with spectacular scenery, especially approaching Murchison Falls.

5/5

The boat ride to the falls skirts the river edge where an abundance of birds, crocs, hippos, lizards, buffalo and warthogs inhabit the shore. As we approached the Falls the experienced boat captain moved the craft into different positions for better photos. We opted to leave the boat here and trekked the last few kilometres to the top of the falls. This is a must if you are reasonably fit because it provides the best views of Murchison Falls. At the top of the falls we were met by our fantastic driver who then drove us back to our camp. An exhilarating day with out a doubt and highly recommended.
