Excellent and place that have to be discovered. Great lodges! Close to Johannesburg but feels far away in the bush.

On the verge of three countries is this wilderness destination with beautiful accommodation and history of Africa. Loved sitting at the waterholes and seeing the elephants come to drink. Very warm in summer and a 4x4 is recommended.

Last Encounter with Gentle Giants (Elephants)
To see these huge Tuskers is an awesome priveledge that few people get to see. Tembe is still far away from being touristy and one get's a magical experience in the bush with the local community that are hands on as rangers and camp staff. Loved staying in the safari tents and hearing the night sounds.
The highlight was sitting at the hides for hours watching the wildlife!
A true African bush/wilderness experience with lots of wildlife.

Review about South Africa by Marleen
We like to visit several parts of a country with our own (rented) car. In South Africa you can drive to every safari park you 'd like to see. In most of the parks you can drive in your own car, or book a game drive with a ranger.
Review about Tanzania by peter the safari maniac
Off the beaten track safaris in game reserves plus Kilimanjaro climbing no country in Africa can compare. For Birders you have Eden on Earth lotsa places to go. Forget the normal serengeti ngorongoro and tarangire Northern circuit. Thats for beginners, you need to go to game reserves and new national parks to truly appreciate the vastness and beauty of nature . Try it....:-)

In the northern part of the country, we stayed with a friend on a private game reserve and were able to see the local wildlife up really close (incl. antelope, zebra and giraffe). We also visited another private game reserve a few kilometers away where we were driven all over in an open topped truck. That was a lot of fun. There was a lot of wildlife in some very beautiful countryside.
The southern coast is also stunningly beautiful and you'll see plenty of wildlife there as well.

The Big Five can easily be seen and a self drive safari is very possible. Safari on your own pace and own viewing preferences eg wildlife or birds. The climate is amazing and the food the best! Good roads but expensive toll roads. Diversity of people, cultures and scenery in one country.
