I regularly recommend Steady Safaris to people I meet who are interested in travelling to East Africa. Our trip was seamlessly planned for us. We were involved in the planning and all or our requests were accommodated. Our guides were personable and as female travelers, we felt very safe and well looked after. The service we received was excellent. We were able to go on night and early morning safaris, had great wildlife viewings, hung out with some chimps and even visited rhinos- all arranged by Steady Safaris. I was looking for a local company with a social conscience, and I highly recommend this company to all. You will have a wonderful trip of a lifetime!

Amazing trip
5/5

I traveled to Africa in June, 2013 with a group from Cross Cultural Threshhold. Patrick was our driver/tour guide. He is very knowledgeable about the area and animals. He answered any question we had. Saw many great sights and animals. Would love to go back and would hope that I could get Patrick again! For the short time we were there, Patrick made everyone feel comfortable. It's different being in another country.

We stayed at Flat Dogs Camp just across the river from the Park for 5 nights. That is a lovely facility with great food. The elephants wander freely by the hatched-roof "tents". sometimes snacking on them. It was the dry season so most of the wildlife was crowded near the river which meant lots of wildlife sightings, but also quite a few other vehicles. Our drives away from the river had far fewer vehicles and found wild dogs, and other good wildlife. One nice feature is the park allows night drives (until 8pm) which were not allowed in Botswana parks. We greatly enjoyed seeing the nocturnal animals. The weather was warm but not too hot, there were almost no bugs. Everyone in our group of 7 had a great time there and highly recommend it.

Birding and animals superb, but too commercialisedfor my liking. Understandable, but too many vehicles gather round the most notable animals.

Wildlife is superb but can be patchy. Bush is very thick in parts. Some superb scenery. Have no yet stayed in reserve camps.

Great half-day trip from Nairobi
Overall rating
4/5

I went to the park without expecting to see the Big Five, but hoping to have a nice, short, manageable experience in the outdoors on my first trip to Africa. My hotel organized a guide for me, but I only had the afternoon available, which isn't usually ideal. My guide was not terribly knowledgeable about the birds, but he was very good at finding the animals, and we saw all kinds of things. It started slowly, with glimpses of some hippos in a pond (so he said, I wouldn't swear to it), then some giraffe, then ostriches, several different types of gazelle (some quite close), zebra, wildebeest and warthogs, secretary bird, white-eyed eagle (?), a couple of Black Rhino ambling under the acacia trees, and finally, as the grand finale, an adult male lion sitting just beside the road watching the zebras, and eventually crossing just in front of the jeep.
By all accounts this was a pretty exceptional day at the park, but even without the rhino and the lion, it was a beautiful spot, especially in the evening, and a really delightful way to spend a free afternoon in Nairobi. Definitely exceeded my expectations.

A quiet, peaceful and relaxed game reserve setting with superb scenery

5/5

We stayed 2 nights, en route from Kruger, via Wakkerstroom onwards to St Lucia. The chalet accommodation and camp was superb. We were unfortunate to be on the edge of a major storm, but nevertheless managed some good game driving with plenty of White Rhino, Giraffe, Zebra, Hartebeest and Wildebeest. We alsotook time to study the smaller animals and reptiles they are often neglected, but are equally enchanting. We met a Ranger who could not have been more knowledgeable about his passion, the Rhino. The scenery was amazing with superb vistas below the large cliff face, and generally it is much more open than some reserves. We had a bush braai at a very well maintained picnic stop in bush. Birdlife was a little disappointing, but that was merely due to the bad weather. I am sure had the sun been shining there would have been plenty of raptors. As with all game reserves in SA beware of the monkeys, they will sneak into the chalets or vehicles and thieve anything. Would love to go back again.
