A huge area with lots of wildlife but sometimes it's frustratingly difficult to get near to it as you can't go off road. Good camping but very minimalist sites.

Review about Chobe National Park by Alan J Castle
Overall rating
5/5

Camping along the Chobe River is an awesome experience. There is a massive variety of game including Roan & Sable antelope as well as huge elephant and zebra herds. There is also a lot of excellent bird life including pelicans, storks, egrets, fish eagles, huge flocks of carmine bee eaters, marsh cormorants, the list just goes on and on. The nightly crossings by elephant herds across the river into Namibia are great spectacles.

There is basically only one main 'road' through this park, with a lot of very deep sand roads, and you have to be lucky with the wildlife. We had some excellent cheetah and lion sightings. There is one big camp on the South African side with all the mod cons, including a fuel station, but if you want the more rugged experience camp on the Botswana side.

Stay at Planet Baobab, one of the quirkiest hotels anywhere and take an organised trip on quad bikes out onto the pan, where you will camp overnight sleeping under the stars. There is absolutely nothing there, but never has nothing been so magnificent as sunset or sunrise on this massive pan.

Not a Zoo like South Africa, not a bush discoteque like some lodges in Tanzania (with South African owners) - only the real thing, spiced with smiling locals.
