True African wilderness natural park.

4/5

I visited the park during January 2020 together with six others for 2 nights.
We traveled from the capital Kampala by road using a 4WD via Gulu,Kitgum and Kaabong a distance of about 550 kms.
During the game drive, guided by a knowledgeable and amiable ranger Gerald, we spotted; the over 1000 herds of buffalo, hundreds of Zebra, several jacksons heartbeats ( not sure of that spelling though), lions, elephants, giraffes, water bucks, warthogs, oribi and many more. My interest was largely the lions and I was not disappointed we spotted three at two different locations.
The weather was hot (35C) during the day and gets rather cold at night.
A must visit for a nature tour of Uganda.

It was good but compared to other parks/game reserves it is a little too organised. I knew this would be the case but, as I was with someone who had never been before, I felt it a safe option. I prefer the "wilder" option and will return to South Africa to perhaps re-visit a location appearing less well "controlled". Having said that, where else can you drive among a pride of 19 lions and then park beside the male lion, lying a little way off, walk along a river bank watching a croc on the other bank and hippos in the water, at times be hassled by monkeys and baboons (in the nicest way of course) and drive past herds of zebra, impala and other animals. A fair range of sightings but after four safaris, I have still to see a leopard - next time perhaps!

Great national park, saw lots and lots of elephants. Quite a bit smaller than the neighbouring parks, has a bit of a theme park feel rather than actual wilderness (like Serengeti and Ngorongoro). Watch out for the monkeys stealing your lunch!

I really enjoy!
4/5

I'm a Japanese volunteer living in Tanzania. My friends came to see me from Japan in September 2015, so we went to Ngorongoro and Serengeti for safari for 3days. I talked with Charlie about our request in advance and he perfectly organized our safari as we had expected. We enjoyed it so much.
I asked him to give us pick-up and drop-off services between Kilimanjaro airport and Moshi just few days before our safari, but he willingly accepted them. The driver picked us up on time.
In our 3day safari, one tire of our vehicle bursted but our staff (one guide and one chef) worked hard for us. Their work made us relieved so much that we're NOT familiar with outdoor activity.
I advise you to ask your guide about the detail itinerary as he didn't mention to us so much. But he explained everything we asked. And his enough knowledge about nature, wildlife and the national parks surprised us so much. He could find animals so fast!
We three all totally enjoyed the safari with Kilimanjaro Vikings! We strongly recommend you reading my review Kilimanjaro Vikings:-)
Asante sana, Charlie.

Kagera was punctual, knowledgeable & welcoming and we visited all the locations on the itinerary
4/5

The tour guide's communication was clear on what we were to do for the day & how it was going to be done.
My expectations were exceeded as we visited all locations on the trip's plan and did not feel rushed.
The tour was well planned & we experienced variety in the sights that we saw.
I highly recommend Kagera Safaris for a truly rich Ugandan experience.

About: Simien Mountains National Park
Considering I had excellent weather, it was an absolutely fantastic trek!
Overall rating
4/5

The trek I completed began about 7 or 8 km west of Sankabar and took a total of 6 days, my furthest point from the start being the summit of Ras Dashen, the highest point in Ethiopia. My trek took place in December and for all 6 days, the weather could not have been better. Sunny and clear skies every morning, with some cloud coming in around 3pm (which was fine, as our hiking for the day was usually done by that time).

I booked my excursion through the company ETT. There are pros and cons with any company which I won't get into here, but let me say that for my Simien experience, they truly did a great job. Our guide, Berhanu, was very knowledgeable and just an all round really good guy, so if you can get him, he'll do you well.

As far as scenery and wildlife goes, it was incredibly beautiful at all times. The gelada monkeys were fun to watch and we had numerous opportunities to do so. Also, on two separate occasions I was able to see the rare Ethiopian wolf (also known as the red jackal, I believe) which was a fantastic experience. At one point, we even saw a group of about five ibex in a valley far below.

My group and I didn't know what to expect for food, so the first night we were served soup. We ate to our heart's content thinking that was all we were going to have, but that turned out to only be the first course of several - all of which were excellent - including dessert. I should mention that meat is not an every day thing, though, as I believe we had chicken only once in the first three days and again on my last day. Nonetheless, we all had plenty of energy and whatever we ate certainly satisfied us.

I should also say that a nice perk was that each day after hiking and arriving at the next camp, a snack of some sort (usually popcorn and biscuits (cookies)) was waiting for us - very much appreciated!

No day's hiking was particularly difficult (other than days 4 (up Mount Bwahit and then over to Ambiko) and 5 (up Ras Dashen), but the altitude did take some getting used to. By my final summit day (day 5), I had loads of energy even though it was definitely a longer day, but again, the terrain was never difficult, so really it was just putting one foot in front of the other until you get there. A 5am start helped with that, too, as it was nice and cool at that time and you could summit nice and early. (For reference, I should add that I'm a 55 year old male, not particularly athletic, but quite experienced with hiking and bagging peaks.)

The people in my group I only met for the first time on that first day, but I must say that they were a fantastic group of people (3 others plus myself) and made the experience that much more enjoyable. Hopefully if you go, you're able to join in with as good of people as I did!

We traveled as a family. It was amazing a holiday i won't forget. And largely thanks to Mike! His recommendations were excellent, and the itinerary was a great mix of adventure, animals, nature just what my family loves. We loved the tented lodge and it was such a experience watching the locals dancing..
Absolutely fantastic people working at this company and incredible value for money safari!
Can't wait for the next Trip!!

Satisfactory .
4/5

The service i received from falcon safaris was very useful . I stayed at the guest house on Gibson road during the new year period , and can't complain too much . However the shower facilities at the guest house were not at all satisfactory as there was hardly any pressure and no hot water for majority of our stay. Despite this I had a wonderful time and would not hesitate to use falcon safaris again .

Great last minute deal in a fantastic camp - all you would need for a wndeful safari experience
4/5

This was a last minute (7 days or less) deal through Coastal Aviation. 3 days, 2 nights at Mdonya Old River Camp in Ruaha National Park all inclusive at $750 per person from Dar es Salaam. The camp itself was simple but very comfortable with good evening food. We were on a constant game drive from stepping off the plane at 10am on Day 1 to taking off again at 11am on Day 3. The driver and guide were very knowledgeable and Andrea, who was running the camp, could answer any question about any subject at length with appropriate humour!
