Great, but a little crowded

The Ngorongoro Crater has some fantastic wildlife and because of the enclosed nature of the crater, good sighting are almost guaranteed. We saw lots of Africa's large animals including lions and hyenas; however this inevitably brings in large numbers of people. This meant there was a slight safari park feel to the experience that took the edge off slightly. Also we went in October because we want to climb Kilimanjaro, which I don't think is the best time to see the park. Everything was quite dry and dusty. Despite this, the feeling of being the crater is incredible and not something I have experienced anywhere else in the world.

About: Kenya
Wide ranging wild life in large numbers throughout the country marred by inadequate infrastructure.

My Blue Mountain Safari 5 day tour was very much as advertised, both positively and negatively and overall quite enjoyable.

Positively, I can say that during the 5 days we say virtually all the animals it had indicated we likely would, often in large numbers and at times close up. In the parks the animals showed almost no fear of man as we stayed within the vehicles as directed by guide/driver and they have been conditioned not to be concerned about them since they have not been hunted. In our limited interaction with the Keyan service workers before, during and after the safari they were always polite and generally quite helpful once the issue was clearly understood.

Negatively, I had chosen a budget level of accommodations and at times it showed more than expected. Also, the Masai Mara tribal visit and vendors were overtly always seeking to profit of one's interest in their tribal / cultural traditions so limiting the quality of the interaction and to a degree diminishing their dignity and limiting what could be learned from them directly.

The endless views, all that wildlife. Unbelieveble if you see this for the first time in your life. So close in distance to the animals, often they ignore you like the cheetah's, and lion's and elephants. Difficult to describe this.

It's different if you compare it with the Serengeti and Ngorongoro. We have seen a lot of monkey's and less bigger animals. But a visit, oh yes it is worthwhile.

Wonderful african safari experience

We used to know about it from the NatGeo and Discovery. But this time I saw them with my own eyes. It was truly a wonderful experience.

We came from Lake Manyara and the Serengeti. It was overwhelming. And now we met as a bonus the hippo's with a baby (from 10 meters) and the rino. Fantastic scenery, all that animals walking in the crater. Excellent hotel (Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge).

An interesting park but a little too crowded for my own taste. A nice selection of wild life

A 'get away from the routine' was a wonderful experience
4/5

The trip was well planned out and co-ordination was good. However, the camping facilities at the park were quite basic; for instance electricity for only 4 hrs in the evening and no charging points in the room.
The itinerary, though packed, was fun filled - with lots of time spent inside the park.
Worth recommending to friends.
