Thinking about a budget/camping Safari in Kenya - Go for Land Rail Safaris
5/5

Being a solo and budget traveller, I was planning for 3N/4D safari trip to Masai Mara,Lake Nakuru & Lake naivasha and was browsing through the Safaribookings.com for a best tour operator in Kenya for Camping Safaris and requested for quotes from 3 operators. Of the 3 quotes that i had received, quote from M/s LAND RAIL SAFARIS was in line with my budget with free Airport Pickup and Drop (which other operators were charging extra), daily Breakfast,Lunch and Dinner. Their payment terms too were flexible. Hence i decided to go with them for my Kenyan Safari adventure.

Though the other quotes, that i received from 2 other operators were lucrative, i decided to book with LAND RAIL SAFARIS because of Mr.STEVE, the gentleman who was coordinating with me about my queries. From the day 1 of sending my query until the end of my trip, Mr.Steve was in touch with me and he was very quick in responding to my emails and queries through whatsapp.

Upon arrival at the airport, i was picked by their driver and was taken to the hotel in Nairobi, where i was staying there for the rest of the night.

Next day morning,1st day of our tour, i was been picked up by their driver and was been taken to a place named NAROK, which is a meeting point/junction where the Safari vehicles exchange the passengers, who are coming back from safari and going for safari. At NAROK, we had our lunch and then we were transferred to a SAFARI vehicle, which was driven by a fantastic guide named Mr.STANLEY. He was an amazing guide with loads of experience in safari driving and vast knowledge on the animals and their behaviors. From Narok, we were taken to LAKE NAKURU and began our safari through the beautiful lake in the RIFT Valley region. Baboons, Zebras, Antelopes, Gazeles were abundant and we saw our first Big 5 there, the Buffaloes. They too were abundant and finally we saw the Southern White Rhinos (2nd Big 5). Our guide Mr.Stanley took us so close (at a safer distance) to these animals and he had a beautiful view of them.By sunset, we were taken back to a nearby town in NAKURU region and stayed there in CITYMAX hotel for the night.

On Day 2, we had our breakfast at the hotel and went to LAKE NAIVASHA , which is the only sweet water lake in the Rift valley region and had a fantastic Boat ride in the lake and had a chance to see a lot of Hippos (but they were inside the water as we went there by the noon) and saw lots of birds. Also we were been taken for a walking safari , where we were been guided through lots of Wildebeest,Zebras, Gazelles and Giraffes were roaming around freely, while we walk around the island. After this trip, we were taken directly to Masai Mara Camp (MITIMINGI ECO CAMP) and dropped our baggage in our shared room (2 beds) in the camp and went straight to MASAI VILLAGE and saw the lifestyle of the Masai people and returned back to our camp for dinner.

On Day 3, we visited the MASAI MARA NATIONAL RESERVE, which was located very near to our camp and upon entry we were spellbound by seeing thousands of Wildebeests, Zebras, Giraffes, Antelopes and Gazelles. We had a chance to see the balance of Big 5's (Lion, Elephant and Leopard) during the day of our Masai Mara trip. We even had a chance to see 2 Cheetahs with their kill (Wildebeest) and 3 male Lions with their kill (a Buffalo) and hundreds of Vultures feasting on a Wildebeest. After a full day safari we returned back to our camp by sunset.

On Day 4, we started early in the morning (before sunrise) and visited MASAI MARA NATIONAL RESERVE again and saw lots of birds and animals. After about 2 hours of early morning safari, we started from Masai Mara and reached back the Narok town for lunch. After lunch, we were been transferred to a van and taken to Nairobi Airport.

These 4days were really adventurous and exciting trip for me. I was missing trips to Mombasa and Amboseli, due to the limited time i had. Overall, my Kenyan Safari experience was excellent one and i strongly recommend the tour operator M/s LAND RAIL SAFARIS. Thanks to our coordinator Mr.Steve and guide Mr.Stanley.

Great trip with an awesome driver (Joel)
5/5

We visited a number of parks and the experience in the parks was amazing. Our driver Joel was awesome and very knowledgeable. Accommodation was a good quality. Just be sure to confirm with James whether you wish to do a private or group tour. Also try to get confirmation of the hotels you will stay in before you get to Kenya. We had an issue with one hotel, where we were told on the day we arrived at the hotel that the hotel we chose was not available so we were staying somewhere else. Not a big issue and James updated our accommodation at another park as compensation. However, was a shock when we arrived at the hotel as we were not informed. Overall was an amazing experience.

It was an unforgettable trip
5/5

We did 14-day East Africa Safari by Far on 24/07/2019. It was an unforgettable trip. Firstly, we choose Seven by Far because of the itinerary. It covers all main Safari Parks: Samburu, Lake Nakuru, Masai Mara, Serengeti, Ngorongoro crater and Amboseli. We encountered the Great Migration and big five game. The animal was so close to us and we took many beautiful videos by mobile phone. Secondly, the accommodation and food are fantastic. We brought some foods from home just in case, which were not in use. Last, the tour guides are very professional and kind. They help us to see more animals and chase the splendid scenes. It is Marcos (guide in Kenya) who give us many wonderful memories. Thank you for our 3 guides. Thank you Seven by Far. We will tell our friends the amazing story Seven by Far gave us.

Amazing experience
5/5

I had the pleasure to travel with Gorilla booking on a 3 days trip making Gorilla trekking and a relaxing boat trip on Bunyonyi Lake in Uganda. Everything was perfectly organized, the trekking has been amazing, and the lake has astonishing views. Andrew was the perfect driver and guide of our journey. Highly recommended

Magnificent experience under the guidance of a very experienced guide
5/5

I traveled with my husband with the guidance of Mr. Oluoko He himself suggested a variation of the trip that was very useful, given that the purpose of the trip was to visit the Rift Valley lakes in search of flamingos. We then visited Lake Nakuru, scouring every part and arriving at sunset in an enchanted place where white rhinos and buffaloes were found near flocks of flamingos. We slept in a beautiful resort on Lake Elementatia and early in the morning we went to peel the shores, where millions of flamingos lived. a paradise !
Mr.Oluoko was very good, great ornithologist, to illustrate all the species of animals and birds seen!

The personal approach from the proffesional guides makes this the best safari we ever had in years.
5/5

Communication before leaving and after arrival from the management makes you feel human instead of a number. Safari feels like hunting with a camera of course, the guides did work great together. Rest camp did feel like home.

Great safari, bush walks and hiking!
5/5

Our hiking tour through South Africa, Swasiland an Zululand was wonderful. Our guides Colly and Cloud from Sunway did a fantastic job spotting moving rocks as animals from far away, sharing all their huge knowledge about wild animals, history and living conditions with us and showing us very beatiful scenery on our hiking tours. They are very kind guys, well organised, excellent cooks and deal with all upcoming questions in a way everybody can feel well.
The accomodations were fine, it´s a good idea to stay two nights and than move on to the next. The small group of five made the bus to our mobile living room.
Thank you so much for the gorgeous experience!

Enjoyable but didn't get full itinerary!
3/5

Positives.
Good communication whilst booking safari.
Good friendly guide"jacktone"who got us to the major sightings in the parks and safely transported around in his clean safari van.
Overall the accommodation was good for a budget safari
Enjoyable safari overall.

Negatives.(minor)
Offering transport on our free day in Nairobi for $260 which we did by uber for $30!!
Telling us enroute that our naivasha boat ride was optional (included in itinerary),which we got a day late after sorting things out.
Not stopping at suitable picnic area on way back to Nairobi.
Cold breakfast at miti mingi camp, and no hot water for over an hour one morning, plus tough meat in stew in evening.
Towels taken from our tent by staff at kimana camp(you have to provide your own), on morning we were leaving so unable to shower, and tent in poor condition.
Family tents not adjacent in spite of booking months ahead and safari company promising to secure good tents for us.
All the above are acceptable by us as part of travelling on a budget.
Negative(major)
However this was not,
The itinerary we had agreed and paid for said we would get a full afternoon game drive upon arrival at nakuru, and a short one the following morning before departure, with possibly one on arrival at amboseli later the same day.
Due to rescheduled boat ride we arrived later than expected at nakuru and were told we would have a longer game drive in nakuru the following morning (which meant no chance of getting to amboseli in time for one same day),but no game drive at nakuru on arrival.Upon pointing out what itinerary said I was informed that the itinerary was inaccurate and that it should have said only one game drive in nakuru,I made it clear that I was unhappy about this, and was assured that something would be arranged to make up for it.
Nothing was done to make up for it,in spite of us having a spare day in Nairobi after end of safari.
Stephen has since informed me (in one email),that nakuru game drives were 2hr upon arrival and another 2hr before departure,so 4hr morning of departure should have been enough.
Stephen has also by email agreed with staff member telling me at the time that we were only supposed to have one game drive!.
The fact that emails conflict and neither agrees with our itinerary (which he admits was cut and pasted from elsewhere) means we still feel short-changed.
We received an apology after returning from Kenya but that was too late.we expected something (at the very least an apology whilst still in Nairobi.

Amazing experience!! Best tour operator ever!
5/5

My experience with Tanzania Roadside expeditions tour operator was great. Communications was really easy (email or WhatsApp) and Paul (tour operator manager) answered all my questions and doubts on time. We were a group of five people and we spent 2 nights in a lodges and 1 night in tended camp. Both the accommodation types were much better than expected. The safari tour was awesome. One of the best experience of my life. We saw a lot of animals (lions, cheetahs and so on) hunting or resting on the ground.
I suggest this experience to everyone.
