About: Tanzania
Close encounters with wild and very relaxed animals
Overall rating
4/5

If you want to see wildlife and get really close to elephants, buffaloes, lions, hippos, hyenas and several more species of mammals and birds - come to Tanzania! We visited Lake Manyara, Serengeti and Ngorongoro on our four day itinerary with a six person jeep and basic accomodation.
Our guide and driver Godlove was excellent, spotting and explaining a plethora of animals - most impressive for me was his ability to name ALL the many birds very precisely. Our cook Marley created new and tasty four course menues every day and managed to satisfy the wishes of the meat lovers in our group AND of us vegetarians.
It was merely amazing how close you can get to all the animals and how relaxedly most of them watch you back (apart from most of the birds and zebras who would always get a few metres inbetween them and us).
If you come from central Europe and are used to fixed treaties - you will maybe feel more satisfied with your trip if you let some expectations more loose.. We recommend to take a tour operator from Tanzania. We had one from Kenya with a bureau in Arusha. The reasons for booking that special tour were some promises that the bureau in Arusha was not wanting to hold: a visit to Olduvai Gorge was to be included (already paid), two nights in Serengeti were in the description, game drive in Ngorongoro should have lasted till the afternoon - none of this was happening. Adding to the disappointment was that the bureau in Arusha didn't pay for the Lake Manyara camping site through the weeks before we went so at the camp site they won't let us leave on the next morning until payment was assured - making up to a delay of two hours before we started the journey to Serengeti, when we had expected to start with an early morning game drive there. It took a few nerves and some e-mails untill we got a fair refund for the promises not held.
If you are relaxed about basic accomodation I really recommend you book a camping safari - it's so beautiful to wake up to footsteps outside (an elephant in our case) and "talking" hyenas (who will raid the dustbins). And you better get an excellent driver like Mr. Msemo who "rides" the dirt roads like nothing.
If you want to get in touch with your own wild nature - come to Tanzania!

Great and unforgettable Uganda trip with Matoke
4/5

Had a 21 day trip to explore en enjoy Uganda. What a beautiful country! Matoke organized everything great. From the start at home untill even after coming back from the trip. Accomodations are as expected and booked. Next time please no bush elephants so the chimps will come down out of the trees :-)
Great and careful driver, thanks Kenneth! And enthousiastic en involved guide, thanks Bram!

About: Namibia
Definitely a must see on your bucket list
Overall rating
4/5

Namibia is a barren country with vast expanses and a small population. The sheer size of desolateness leads to an eerie beauty that cannot be captured in photographs and humbles one with an almost frightening sense of mortality.
The tour was awesome and our guide Gideon was excellent. Gideon slaved from before sunrise to well after sunset to make our trip as comfortable as possible. The roads are rough and travelling times are long so a good guide is essential to break the monotony of the "African massage". Food was plentiful and the menus well thought out with Gideon cooking most of the meals over an open fire. The couple of restaurant meals were good. We did not see any of the "big five" wild animals but buck, birds and flora were in abundance. The trip to Na'ankuse just outside Windhoek to see the endangered carnivores was well worth it. Coming from South Africa wildlife was not our priority though. Accommodation on the tour was 3-4 star but in Windhoek I would only give it 2 stars. You need to research the accommodation in Windhoek else book your own.

Fun place to visit

Sceneries are so pretty, there are lots to see in Cape Town area. Kruger Park is awesome! Really good place to test your eye vision (how easy can you spot animals) and your knowledge of animals! Recommend to visit both places.

I was in a budget safari but it was not so comfortable, not electricity even at night, very poor and bad packedlunch, not a window for everybody, not a lot of interest of the driver/guide, but even that I enjoyed my stay
