Uganda is a very warm and friendly place, with few of the hassles you find elsehwere, even Kampala itself proved welcoming even in some of the poorer areas of the centre. Safari-wise, still not the level of game viewing of other countries, but you can't fault it for beauty in the parks. Friends of mine have also recommended Murchison Falls (where I hope to go this year - 2012). Fort Portal is a good base for visiting the Ruwenzoris, one of the Gorilla viewing areas. My visit to Uganda was to visit friends, and we used their own vehicles (4wd) with no guide with no problems. A very enjoyable experience throughout my 2 week stay.

Safari to Ngorongoro
4/5

My friend and i went on a Safari to the Ngorongoro crater, we saw beautiful scenery and many animals. It was an unforgettable trip, we felt like being in the garden of Eden. Transport was good, although road was very bumpy. Food provided was OK, not much. The driver/guide not very communicative, we had to ask him about animals, otherwise he would not say much. The rest OK.

Zimbabwe away from the big cities in the unspoilt bush is a true wildlife and nature enthusiast's paradise. We visited the Victoria Falls area. The upsetting thing is that everything is charged for in US dollars which make it expensive. River rafting the 18 rapids on the Zambezi with the experienced guides make the trip a pleasure. Who has done 5 grade 5 rapids in one day? The safari lodges and hotel serve great food and it is recommended to visit a few for different dining experiences. The elephant back experience and the hot air balloon flight over Victoria Falls was magnificent. We stayed for two weeks in this area and it still felt not long enough. Petrol/ gas is a problem and one should fill up as often as possible if self driving. Great lodges, guesthouses and B&B's in the area with lots of friendly locals.

You are a real caring man. We loved how you interacted with us. We needed money, you arranged it, we needed explanations or help with stuff in Arusha, you helped us even when you weren't supposed to.

We loved and enjoyed our three days safari to Tarangire National Park, Ngorongoro Crater and Lake Manyara National Park thanks! We real had a nice journey. Also the Kilimanjaro climb the Marangu route six day was great! A life-changing – experience! You made our dream vacation come true.

Thanks Mike!

We stayed at Sussi and Chuma on the Zambezi River. We didn't care about visiting the falls, but we did go boating on the river each day, late in the afternoon, early evening. We went to see animals in the reserve earlier in the day on land with a guide.

While the animals in the reserve were amazing, the scenes on the river were unimaginable. We saw massive crocodiles and hippos everywhere. We saw animals on the banks of Zimbabwe although we did not visit Zimbabwe. Only after we returned home did we realize how dangerous our adventures had been.

A hippo had been hit on the road that ran through the reserve one night. The locals used it to feed the poor. While on the river one evening, we saw the carcass lowered down to the crocs on the banks. It was something you could never imagine seeing and put life in America into sharp perspective.

Review about Moremi Game Reserve by Scott and Mark
Overall rating
4/5

Moremi had fewer animal sitings except that we had quite a good viewing of a mother and baby leopard enjoying a meal. Moremi was nice because it has both water and land activities and offers a good variety. We stayed at Baines Camp, which has some wonderful, romantic options. Weather permitting, they will move the bed out to the balcony so you can sleep under the stars (and mosquito netting). It's a remarkable experience and while you may feel like you prefer the safety of being indoors, it really is an experience not to miss. At one point we were wakened by an elephant casually eating grass next to our balcony. It was literally up against the railing and seeing that from your bed was among the most memorable experiences of the trip. They will also set up outdoor bubble baths on the balcony - very romantic! Getting to the camp requires a long boat ride snaking through paths cut through marsh. How the guides know which paths to take is beyond me. The water is crystal clear and if the guides spot a scrap of paper or other trash in the water they would stop and reverse to pick it up. Pristine beauty.
