Personal day tour in Kigali
5/5

Booked a day tour with the company at short notice and didn't really have a clear idea what to visit. The owner, Reginal, was brilliant, he came up with suggestions and we quickly agreed a package of visits in his air conditioned car with collection and return to my hotel.
The day was a great success and we crammed an excellent itinerary into 6 hours including the genocide memorial site (a must do), past president's palace, wonderful huge local market packed with very friendly and welcoming store keepers, good lunch stop, best coffee shop in the city and brief visit to the natural history museum. The tour was excellent value, Reginal was very attentive, nothing was too much trouble and he made this Rwanda experience truly memorable. Well done.

Amazing Luxurious Primate Experience
5/5

Gatatu Safari is a Ugandan based locally ran tour company. The communication with the owner (Richard) is phenomenal. Richard will answer all your questions and change anything and everything you like. He will work with you on customizing everything of preference from activities to lodging upgrades (tents, deluxe rooms, lodges, etc.) He answers most e-mails the same day. Also, the prices they offer can not be beat. We stayed in luxury lodges and Gatatu was the only company that offered them in our price range. The best part about the company is that the owner (Richard) has a degree in social work and he started a school to help children. He uses a portion of the profits from his company to help fund the school and support the children. So, you can feel really good about supporting this tour company as the money does not feed into some euro-based big business. This is also why I believe you will find the best prices here. Note that since the company is not a Euro-business, they do not accept credit card at this time. Payments are made via wire transfer, if this worries you please feel free to contact me or Gatatu can put you in contact with my facebook to confirm your money is safe (and also check out some tour photos)! Working with Gatatu was very professional. They picked us up where we requested right on time and we were dropped off to our exiting destination promptly. Vehicle, safari guide/driver, and bookings were all as promised. All-in-all we were very happy with our tour. We have many recommendations if needed about activities and lodges. I would say your best bet for Primates is through Gatatu as many other companies have a significant mark-up. Gatatu will make sure you get the most for your money.

Thank you, Kenya Walking Survivors Safari, for our dream trip!
5/5

My husband has talked about going to Africa for as long as I've known him, 36 years. So when our friends suggested that we go, we didn't hesitate. This was truly the trip of a lifetime. Kenya Walking Survivors Safaris went all out to make this trip fabulous. The price of the trip included everything (except airfare) -all airport transfers, transportation, accommodations, meals, park entrance fees, oh, and the flight to and from Zanzibar. Our accommodations were varied, from a top notch luxury hotel in Nairobi to a tent in the middle of the Serengeti that actually was our favorite. We loved the tented camps we stayed in, too. We really enjoyed the variety of places we stayed in and the uniqueness of each. The trip itinerary included visits to Samburu, My favorite- visit the Samburu village there-bring things to trade like flip flops for a bracelet- Nakuru ,where we saw white rhinos, Maasai Mara, do not miss the hot air balloon ride over the great migration of wildebeests, expensive but worth it! Amboseli, Lake Naivasha,-we were able to visit Crescent Island and walk with the zebras and other animals, the Serengeti. We were able to see the most amazing animals- the big 5 and so many more! My favorites were the giraffes and zebras, my friend liked the warthogs, so our driver stopped when we saw those! Now I need to talk about our driver, Anthony, who became part of our family because he was so incredibly awesome !He is an expert at spotting animals and we saw things we would have missed without him, such as 2 leopards playing on a branch, lions in the bushes. He took such good care of us, answered all our questions, told us so many facts about animals and taught us words in Swahili. He ate with us at our request and was the best part of the Kenya experience.( I cried a little when we had to leave him.) Everywhere, the Kenyan people were so warm, friendly and happy. Anthony made our border crossing into Tanzania easy , and we were greeted by Abbas, our Tanzanian guide. We went to Lake Manyara, the Serengeti and the Ngorongoro crater, where we saw lots of lions. Abbas was a great guide, too. At the Arusha airport,(going to Zanzibar), the plane left an hour early because everyone was there! The beach is beautiful there, we stayed in a place right on it with only 8 rooms, so we got spoiled. Every day was filled with surprises, like seeing animals, and a sense of wonder. I kept saying, "Pinch me, am I really in Africa?" I would highly recommend a trip with Kenya Walking Survivors Safaris. In the 16 incredible days we were there, it was a pretty perfect trip! Thanks, OT (the owner) for all your hard work to make our trip go so smooth!

The accommodation provided (charged by operator at 13 X lodge rate) was an absolute disgrace.
1/5

I recently participated in a tour by this operator. It was tented camps. The accommodation was appalling. The operator charged us 13 times the amount a "walk in" customer from the street would have paid for the same accommodation. We were paying top dollar for the most basic old tents, broken beds, thin matresses, mouse droppings, broken zips, dirty toilets, no hot water, pigeons in the roof, no towels, filthy showers, etc etc. Never again. For the same amount of money you can get much, much better. The operator is a classic rip-off of foreigners who have no idea of prices and what is available.

Safari with kids!
5/5

We're a family of five (three boys, 15, 13 and 12) living in the US and I'd been trying to arrange a safari that encompassed the Masai Maara and finding that many of the tour operators here in the US thought our budget was just not enough to accomplish that. I came across Transtrek and had a quick email exchange with Daniel and he felt that our budget was absolutely enough for a few days there and, with kids in tow, visiting other parks would keep the kids engaged anyway. What great advice! Daniel managed to create an itinerary that allowed us to travel around Nakuru, Naivasha, the Aberdares, Laikipia, Nairobi and the Masai Maara and then finish off with a couple of days in Malindi to unwind. While the driving was long (and I wish we had followed Daniel's advice of taking more internal flights!), we saw everything that we had heard about and more besides. He really took the time to find out what we wanted to get out of the vacation and worked other excursions and parks into that list. As it turned out, our highlight was probably Ol Pejeta where all three boys (and us 'rents) loved the conservancy excursions (and we saw a leopard and her cubs!). We would not have considered that as a destination had Daniel not recommended it.

I would not hesitate to use Daniel and Transtrek again, or to recommend them highly to anyone considering a safari. He was always responsive via email or video call and obviously has a wealth of personal experience traveling in Kenya so was able to answer all of our questions, make great recommendations and create an awesome experience for all of us.

Straight into our top ten best holidays ever !
5/5

South Africa has such a mixed reputation that we have avoided a family trip there for years. Then we decided in April 2016 to book a South African winter ( UK summer holiday) The UK brochures looked A) expensive B ) Limited. I googled and found Pembury quite by chance – well, the angels must have sung for me when I was connected to Tammy at Pembury Tours.
From the off she immediately sorted an initial trip - which when I looked at seemed fine but we had a slightly larger budget so she moved things around - and again and again . I kept changing my mind about what I wanted to do and in what order. Tammy was all over it. Finally we agreed the price was right and the hotels looked wonderful - they always do though – don’t they?
I had lunch with friends who had booked with the big travel agents the year before. I told them the price.
"How much? - you’re either being scammed or the accommodation will be awful."
Wrong !
The accommodation, without exception was 5 * plus.
All of the hotels & B & B were beautiful, the Safari so good we wept when we left and the welcome warm and friendly and the service to die for. The entire trip was flawlessly organised with small little add on’s like the bus tours around Cape Town and the details in the documents sent about trips to take at each stop. It was all very easy and relaxed. I compared the price paid to the big UK brochures and Tammy at Pembury supplied a 5 * service for pretty much the same price or less in the case of our stunning Safari ( Game Farm ). I can wholeheartedly recommend Tammy to anyone travelling to SA at any time in the future. We are already planning our next trip.

Great experience & Good Coordination
4/5

A 12 days trip to Kenya , Me and spouse alone . Private tour and the best part of the tour is our Guide /Driver Mr Shem, a Knowledgeable and very humble person . Mr OT was excellent in coordination . Met him at His office and from the next day the tour started . Tsavo _, Amboselli , Nakuru , Naivasha & Maara . Mr Shem was very cooperative and made us feel very comfortable . Everything was well organised . Baloon safari was awesome - a lifetime experience , pl do not miss it . Have patience in Massai Mara ,Natures Unfolds at its own course and our Guide was very patient and even suggested us to few locations where get to see Lions and Leopards very close . If it had been a 4X4 vehicle Mr Shem would have felt comfortable and he was at its best in driving with the Vehicle given to him . An wiressless Radio would have been a added advantage which was Missing.
We are planning our Next trip to Massai Maara very soon ..., of course with Kenya walking .., Mr OT - will meet you soon .., Keep it Up team.
