huge -- lions up close, and a leopard -- I believe there are 2 -- 1 mother and 1 grown offspring (who has left and lives in a different part of the park)

Heaven for elephants and baboons
Overall rating
5/5

This place must be heaven for elephants, because we saw so many. They're so chill here and got incredibly close to our vehicle. I loved that it was a forested park, which was a nice change of scenery from the Serengeti. I also loved watching the huge troops of baboons - apparently this park has the highest concentration of baboons of any park in Africa. We also got lucky and saw 5 lions, including one up in a tree and one eating a baboon in a bush. Though I wouldn't count on this because our guide said many times he's been to Lake Manyara and not seen any lions.

Lake Manyara also gives you the opportunity to go on a walking safari. An armed park ranger took us on an hour and a half hike, which was an excellent experience getting to experience the bush on foot and learn about the plants and animal signs from the ranger. We got lucky and saw a mother and juvenile elephants drinking at a stream. Wow, what a thrill! It was actually pretty intense because the mother started walking in our direction and could have easily charged over the stream, but the park ranger handled it with aplomb and made some loud noises to turn the elephant around.

Lake Manyara was our last stop on our safari. To me I enjoyed it just as much as the heavy hitters like Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater. Better than Tarangire (though I saw Tarangire in February and it's probably better in the dry season when the wildlife is more concentrated).

The Africa of My Dreams
Overall rating
5/5

The Serengeti exceeded my sky-high expectations. What a marvel of nature! In two days in the Serengeti we saw about 20 lions doing all varieties of activities, 6 cheetah including one hunting and a couple of the cutest cubs imaginable, many elephant herds, massive zebra herds, a group of 50 hippos brawling, a clan of hyenas hazing a newcomer, warthogs chasing each other, jackals eating a zebra corpse, tons of giraffes, tons of buffalo, impala, gazelle, and other antelope.
The sprawling scenery, the sense of adventure as you drive through the bumpy roads in the endless grasses and scattered trees, hearing the elephants as you walk from dinner to your camp. We did an 11 hour game drive one day to really take it all in. One of the best days of my life.
This is a paradise on earth that will live in my heart forever.

Sheer abundance
Overall rating
5/5

The sheer abundance and diversity of animals in such a beautiful setting was unbelievable. It felt like a land before time. From one spot you could see so many different species of animals, frolicking in streams and grazing on the plains with masses of birds swarming past them.
You can't get quite as close to the animals as the Serengeti or some of the other parks because there aren't all that many roads and the animals aren't always right by the road. That being said, we did have some animals that went right across the road in front of us: a bull elephant, a male lion, a serval cat, some zebra and wildebeest. We saw a rhino only through the binoculars.
I loved that we went in February because the whole crater was a vibrant shade of green.
Even if there weren't any wildlife in this crater, it would be something amazing to see. With teeming animals all around you, it is a true spectacle and one of the most impressive marvels of nature I've ever seen. Don't miss it.

We got the FULL EXPERIENCE!
5/5

Ronnie coordinated all details for our team of twelve travelers throughout the trip. Getting the late evening drive through the savannah gave us the additional chance to see lots of wildlife activity. Well experienced about flora and fauna. I would select Unveil Uganda again!

They were extremely knowledgeable, service oriented and a pleasure to be with!!
5/5

I found this tour company to be fairly priced, extremely knowledgeable and most concerned about giving us a great experience. We did the first Leg of Kilimanjaro and got awesome views of the summit and the surrounding topography. It far exceeded our expectations. Additionally we saw a lot of Tanzanian farming and logging industry on the way to the hiking site and found it incredibly interesting. Dickson, our guide, seemed to know the answer to all of our questions and was really attentive. Thanks so much for a wonderful day!! We highly recommend this company.
