A wonderful safari full of unexpected and breathtaking sights from beginning to end.
I visited Chobe whilst working as a volunteer on the Book Bus project in Livingstone, Zambia. The crossing from Zambia to Botswana was very straightforward and the trip began with morning coffee at Kalahari Tours’ office followed by a boat safari on the Chobe River.
The wide river channels and lush green islands were an oasis amidst the dry thorn scrub. Not surprisingly, they were rich in bird life including fish eagles, pied kingfishers and white-fronted bee-eaters. It was fantastic to see everything from a different perspective, be on a level with the hippos in the water and get a close-up view of basking crocodiles.
After a delicious buffet lunch we headed into the park for a game drive. I was amazed to see so many elephants of all ages – a huge herd making its way to the water to drink and bathe. It was unexpected and wonderful. The rest of the drive did not disappoint with sightings of warthog, giraffe, impala, kudu, puku, buffalo and more. In the beautiful evening light we watched as elephants, including a two-week-old baby, crossed the river from the islands where they had been grazing and flocks of whistling, white-faced ducks took to the air. The sunset was breathtaking.
I had decided on the camping option for my overnight stay. The comfortable tents were set up in a clearing around a roaring campfire, which was welcome in the chill evening air, and we were very well fed and comfortable. It was great to be immersed in the bush with all the night sounds and amazing, starlit sky. Up for breakfast before sunrise, I was treated to the magical sight of a family of elephants passing quietly by the camp in the half-light of dawn.
All the guides/drivers were friendly, helpful, extremely knowledgeable and happy to answer questions but frequent changeovers made tipping a bit of an issue. I would recommend staying at least one night as it added so much to the experience.
My visit to Chobe was over too quickly and I have every intention of returning.

The core of Africa
One of the best destination in Africa for the nature, people around Zimbabwe are really friendly with you and they can only share a smile; the weather in Africa is really good between November and March, I was there in January and the weather was simply perfect everyday.
The accomodation was really basic but was good, you can try there a typical local food and some african animal meats (if you like meat), the english tour guide was excellent and really nice person.

Truly amazing Safari experience
I and my husband (we are a young couple at 30yrs of age) went to Kafue NP in July 2010. It was our first safari. People mostly go to much well-known national parks, especially for their first time. However we didn't choose those wellknown ones on purpose because they dont feel ''wild'' anymore, we believe. In Kafue, you really feel and experience the wild African bush life. Animals are not used to seeing cars so often, and everytime we were out on a ride we were the only jeep in the bushes. We never ran into any other group.
Kafue river is something itself! We took a little boat tour along the river and watched the sunset. Its unbelievable how a river full of alligators can look so fantastic and romantic:) We got a chance to eat hunt meat as well; fresh and nice! I never had that tasty meat in my entire life!
Because I was afraid of being in the wild with lions etc I wanted to stay in a lodge where I could feel ''comfortable''. so we chose Mukambi Lodge which was exceptionally beautiful. The lodge itself was home to a lot of wild animals. Elephants, hippos, lions were all around & in the lodge. We were so lucky with the choice of guide as well. All the guides in Mukambi are locals and have amazing sense of animals. They se & hear from kilometers away. They showed us the animals without disturbing their wild life or risking our lives.
I cannot recall anything negative about this trip. Everyone was helpful and nice, Kafue park was truly beautiful. It made me and my husband fall in love with mother Africa and we definitely would consider going back again.

Spectacular wildlife
I really liked the fascinating wildlife. I've seen places like South Afrika, Botswana and Namibia. To be honest: Kenia and Tanzania tops them all. More wildlife, more big cats, lots of birds. Fantastic. Sleep in a tent on an unfenced campground inside a National Park, being visited by elephants, hyena's, buffalo an lions. What more do you want? Seeing the big five in 1 day. Visited several local communities to see normal life in Kenia and tanzania. Fishing with locals for tilapia. Nice.

Zambia is not a ''hot'' safari destination which makes it still so wild, natural and beautiful.

one of the most fascinating place, it will make you fall in love and regret your desire to travel
wildlife wasn't very rich in aprile, but we saw a lots of zebras, kudu, giraffe, springbok, and many birds. and no lion no ghepard and no lepard.
scenery: very beautifull desert and skeleton coast, etosha, burn mountains, epupa falls is so so. windhoek is very small and just one day enough to visit.
weather in aprile doesn't perfect. in some areas it rained a lot(ex. waterberg, and etosha)
accommodation good: campsites are well equipped with hot water and electrical outlets.
food is good. (you can try all types of meat from zebra to crocodile)
transportation: Roads are often unpaved, you need 4x4, one tire more, and bensin reserve. before renting the car checked it for damage. the best thing: let a few tips, their will remember when you return.
be careful driving. Namibians are not very careful drivers often allow very risky moves.
