Home Away from Home Near Kruger, a Hidden Gem!
I first stayed at Bongan Safaris solo in December 2024, and I loved it so much that I returned in March 2025 with my entire family (a group of five). Both times, we had an incredible experience that felt more like staying at a warm, welcoming bed-and-breakfast than a traditional safari lodge. Nestled in a quiet rural village just outside Acornhoek, the lodge offers a peaceful, authentic atmosphere that still feels close to the action. It’s only about a 20-minute drive from Kruger’s Orpen Gate, which made it super convenient for our early morning game drives. I like how Bongan offers both Kruger and private game reserves in the safari package. Some of our favorite experiences included the sunrise bushwalks and sunset drives through the private game reserve full of wildlife sightings!
One of my family members has dietary restrictions, and I really appreciated how the staff at Bongan Safaris went out of their way to accommodate them with thoughtful meal options.
I wouldn’t hesitate to return again and highly recommend it for travelers looking for a budget-friendly, relaxed, and personal safari experience in the Kruger area.

The safari was a unique experience that was worth it, and I would do it again and again
The tour was very well organized. Our tour guide Steven was very nice and friendly. He tried to show us all the animals from the best possible perspectives. Additionally, he told us a lot about the animals and answered all our questions. The food was also very delicious.

Proper operator
The company delivered what they promised. We were three colleagues travelling together. We had booked a two-night trip. The trip's program was adjusted so that we saw both safari in Maasai Mara, village, and Lake Naivasha with a walk. The price also suited us, compared to other companies. Thanks to John who was our contact at Camptrek Safaris and made this suggestion :) The location of Zebra Plains Mara camp was perfect, in the middle of the savannah. We saw several animals right up close. Our guide, Philip, was professional and with many years of experience as a safari guide. All three of us also received a nice personal gift from the company. Great experience in Tansania!
So far I had a really great time in Serengeti NP and Ngorogoro NP. We saw a lot of animals eg the great migration of gnus and zebras, a cheetah mother with baby’s, lions with baby’s, elephants, giraffes and so on. I loved how diverse the sceneries were and really appreciate the effort of our guide Steve who always watched out for the animals and brought us as close as possible to see them. Moreover the food that was made for us was excellent and more than enough. Thanks for the special experience and memories made during the trip!!

Very good organized and a lot of experience

It was a very adventures experience with lifetime memories.
I loved the four day trip. I always felt safe, even though we camped in the wilderness. It was very organized and our tour guide Steven was really great at getting us close to the animals in a respectful way. He really has a great eye for seeing animals in different kind of actions. The cook Ali was also very very good. The food was always warm and varied. We loved the experience! Thank you. Asante sana.

We had a fantastic tour with the most beautiful national parks of Kenya and Tanzania organized by Afrishare Trekking. We specially costumized the tour, Ibrahim was all the time very helpfull and cooperative! Starting from Nairobi we visited Lake Naiwasha, Masai Mara, with our Kenyan guide Robert. Robert has a very deep knowledge about nature, and animals. He is also funny, perfect driver, kind and patient. Allways on time! After Masai Mara we changed the driver to Tanzanian Okuli, who was also very kind, brave and had good knowledge. We visited Serengeti, Ngorongoro, and then turned back for the last part of the magnificent Safari to Amboseli in Kenya.
It was our Honeymoon trip, we can recommend it with good heart to anyone!

Best guides, most convenient
Yesla & Sukoo were the best guides we could hope for. They had eagle eyes to find even the hardest to find animals. They were kind and helpful to other guides and communicated well with us to know when to stay longer and when it was time to move on. They were knowledgeable and funny! Lifetime memories were made today!

Meijo safari has done an absolutely amazing job for our safari experience in Tanzania. Michael was very active in communication during the planning stage, and was very attentive to any questions that we had. The director of the company also took the time to greet and welcome us which was very lovely. Our guide Herman was everything we needed for our tour. We were so well taken care of by him. He was experienced, knowledgeable and so patient with us that catered to all our needs and made this trip a super fun and unforgettable memory. He knew where the animals were hiding, what their next moves were, and always pointing out animals with his eagle eyes. We saw the African big 5 and more bonus beasts and birds! We were all missing Herman so much when we left the country. Overall we feel that Meijo safari is a genuinely great company that we can put our trust in their hands.
We loved the arrangement of hot food for every lunch, never short of drinks supplies, and our car was cleaned every day! The accommodations were very much higher than our expectations. We felt the genuine care, superb hospitality and great service from Meijo and highly recommend to anyone who’s thinking of joining the Meijo safari tour!
